How much do you spend on hair and nails?

I am thinking of getting highlights done and in the past, only ever got haircut for something like £20-30. I have started to get grey hairs now so need to look at more options for hair care.
I am also intrigued by my colleague's getting beautiful nails done and tempted to get mine done.
I haven't had much hairs or nails done in the past and intrigued what I should budget for each month to get my hair and nails done?
What are your usual regular spend on hair and nails?

Hair, £140 every six weeks for cut and colour.

Nails, nothing.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 30/11/2024 16:25

I have my own gel lamp and loads of colours so I do my own and it only costs a few £s when I fancy a new colour. I enjoy it especially in these dark winter months and I’m experimenting with nail art now. They last about a week to 10 days but I’m happy with that as my nails grow quickly and I like changing the colour.

I use a box dye every month and cut my own hair very occasionally so that’s about £8 per month.

GreenMarigold · 30/11/2024 16:41

Hair cut £50 every 3-4 months. Never had my nails done.

MsCactus · 30/11/2024 16:47

Shocked by how low these prices are! I live in London and every haircut seems to be £70+

Saying that, I have waist length hair that I rarely cut. I oil and take care of my lengths, then just cut it myself an inch or so a couple of times a year. I just felt the amount hairdressers were charging was a rip off.

I also don't do nails - too high maintenance for me when it starts chipping and looking rubbish.

If I was grey, I'd buy a dye at home kit and do that every month or couple of months to keep on top of it.

AlpacaMittens · 30/11/2024 16:48

£60 a year on hair for my annual haircut
I hate going to the hairdressers

No nails (I have nails, I just don't do anything to them)

I used to get waxed but after a few very, very poor experiences I have started doing it at home (three times a year or something)

Isis1981uk · 30/11/2024 16:49

I'm very low maintenance, so I spend nothing on my nails, and £10 every 6 weeks to dye my roots! Plus shampoo/conditioner, £2/3 each time they run out!

Sheknowsaboutme · 30/11/2024 16:52

Curly cut every 6 months. £60

Nails every 3 weeks. £35.

i do my own brows, lip/chin wax. And colour my own hair.

okydokethen · 30/11/2024 16:53

BIAB nails every three weeks -£40
Hair cut probably five or six times a year at £35 - just basic long bob, no dye (embracing grey)
Twice a year I like to straighten my hair with a Brazilian blow dry and this costs £120

unclebuck · 30/11/2024 17:01

I've never had my nails done in my life.
Hair £1200 a year - it's ruinous but it's my whole look 😂

Changeyourfuckingcar · 30/11/2024 17:07

About £150 every six-nine months for balayage, nothing on my nails.
Used to be £150 every three months for balayage and about £30 every three weeks for my nails… then I had a kid 🤣

genesis92 · 30/11/2024 17:14

It baffles me how there is supposed to be a cost of living crisis, but my local nail place has queue of people waiting to get their nails done from the moment they open to the moment they close. It flabbergasts me every time

Plenty of people seem to have the money to spend £30+ on their nails every 3 weeks!

momofonex · 30/11/2024 17:15

£40 nails per month. £180 hair every 2-3 months

daliesque · 30/11/2024 17:25

Hair about £200 every couple of months for a cut and colour. Nails - nothing as I'm useless with manicures and not able to have painted nails at work anyway. In my dreams it would be once a week.

user50and · 30/11/2024 17:26

£27 every 3 weeks on gel nails. £110 for roots, cut and blow dry every 9 weeks.

SilverBlueRabbit · 30/11/2024 17:28

I get my hair cut once a year in the summer just before a major event in our calendar. It's about £90. Nails never, though occasionally I buy a polish.

As you can probably tell- I am not that kempt. But now I am 50 I am trying harder. Our local tech college does cut and colours for £14 and I am going to try that out. They do eyebrow shaping for £1.

curlycurlymoo · 30/11/2024 17:29

£33 on nails every 3 weeks. Hair done every 12 weeks and £150

coffeesaveslives · 30/11/2024 17:31

I don't do anything with my nails except cut them - I work outdoors with animals so it would be a colossal waste of time and money.

Hair products cost me about £10 a month and I cut it myself.

Hellskitchen24 · 30/11/2024 17:33

About £20 every 2-3 months for a haircut. Only get pedicures in the summer, cost about £28 every 6 weeks or so.

When I get my hair dyed (not currently as pregnant) it’s around £100 for highlights.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 30/11/2024 17:39

Hair I go once a month - either to get my colour topped up, or full head highlights (with lots of highlights) every other month. I have a bright hair colour though so it's higher maintenance than would be otherwise. Pay £50-60 depending on what I'm having done.

Just started having my nails done to try to stop me biting them - about £30 every 2-3 weeks for them. Could get them done cheaper - but this is the non-dodgy, UK run salon rather than the dodgy nail bars around here.

Ginkypig · 30/11/2024 17:44

£0

iv never had my nails done in any capacity and I get my hair trimmed for free about twice a year (sometimes 3) when my friend is seeing his make stylist getting his hair cut.

I wouldn’t have my hair done at all but he offered as he like us and won’t take money for it as it is literally just the most basic of trims. No washing just a quick spray and trim

Crushed23 · 30/11/2024 17:53

When I was living in the UK I would pay £35 for a gel manicure every 3-4 weeks.

About £60 for a haircut every 2 months.

Balayage every 3-4 months for £150-200.

£40 for a gel pedicure about 3 times a year.

Growlybear83 · 30/11/2024 17:56

I've never had anything done to my nails and last went to the hairdresser about ten years ago. 😆

Ginkypig · 30/11/2024 17:59

Can I ask about everyone who has pedicures.

What happens during one? do they do they sort the heels or is it just nails?

I’d maybe consider it for the summer months if it sorted out my feet as well.

housemaus · 30/11/2024 18:15

Go to the hairdressers about once a year - I'm very lazy with it and have long hair, I occasionally trim it myself, so about £50 for a cut and blowdry once a year! And then BIAB nails every 3-4 weeks which I get for free because my sister does them but would cost £30.

SLRUS · 30/11/2024 18:18

£200pcm. 4 blow dries and nails 2 times a month. More if it's time to get my roots of highlights done.
