The legal costs hearing is on Thursday. I’d be worried JL’s costs would be awarded against Nikita, as he was not found to have assaulted her. This is a huge risk for her. But what choice fit she have? He claims to have had sex with her, and told the Gardai this, so what choice did she have but to make a claim against him too? It was a trap, and it half-worked, poor Nikita. She only took the civil case against him on the basis of his claim.

Why should she have to change her behaviour to avoid being raped?

Did anyone else get a feeling that while the jury found in NH's favour, the derisory settlement awarded (in view of MG's immense wealth) may have been a signal that there was some "contributory negligence"?

Reminded me of insurance claims for car accidents where the settlement is reduced because the claimant wasn't wearing a seat belt or something.

I read that the damage caps in Ireland are quite low. Not sure if that's accurate, but there will be a framework for awards quantum.

The judge spoke to them about that. Said its €500000 for someone who becomes paraplegic and a few other examples as a basis for where to start so it was going to have to be lower than that
