Dad going to Disneyland without his son

Just a rant really about how heartless some men people are. A couple (in their forties with an 8 year old son) I know broke up two years ago. Man had found a younger model (25, blonde, curvy bimbo). I am not close friends with woman but we meet regularly (friend's friend). I run into the man and his bimbo often (she does seem really sweet and kind but not alot brain activity going on). Man has his son 2 week-ends per month and he always complains about how his ex is ruining him financially (I see him often so I don't want a conflict I just say that children are expensive and leave it there). Well today he said he's going to Disneyland during the christmas holidays.I said that "Ben" must be thrilled. That's when he goes "Oh, no we're not taking him. I'm sick of just thinking about everryone else. I already took him with ex when he was younger. This time me and "Bimbo" are going to just have fun. But don't tell Ben or ex. Haha". Bimbo giggling beside him. I went numb. I couldn't find any words. How can you be so utterly selfish it's beyond me. And how a man in his forties can enjoy Disbeyland is beyond me but that's another issue.
I don't want to tell the woman because it's none of my business and also because it's just so bloody hurtful.
AIBU not telling her?

Every other weekend is the most common contact arrangement and there may be good reasons for it. People are always saying kids need a stable home and a base and that most adults wouldn’t like it if they lived between two places so why should kids?
It’s not shit to go on holiday without your child on days when they are not with you. You’d never say it to a mum going on holiday with her boyfriend while kids are with dad.
He moans about paying - so he does pay. He’s a hell of a lot better than the many who don’t pay. Who knows why he moans? Maybe he knows the mum doesn’t spend the money on the kids.

This.

As unpleasant as the responses she's getting on this thread? A lot of posters bypassing a man who only sees his son two weekends a month taking his girlfriend to Disney (explicitly behind his son's back) to focus on name calling a woman who used a term they don't like.

But why hold a man accountable when you can pile on another woman and imply she's jealous of a 'younger, more attractive' woman and call her 'catty' and 'a bitch' (no misogyny there!).

The most telling comment is: 'He may be a crap man and a shit father, but you are really showing yourself up with your OP'. Lmao.

Nope. EOW is common. And why are you taking it as gospel at the word of an OP who has admitted that she doesn’t know any of them very well. I’d bet the farm that this is far from how it seems, and possibly posted with the intention of getting MN frothing. Oh, and ‘Bimbo’ is misogyny - unacceptable enough from men, but even more concerning when it’s a woman.

ChillysWaterBottle · 25/11/2024 15:07

I don't know what other people are apparently telling you on other threads, that's between you and them.

A parent who sees their kids 4 days a month is a lazy parent. One who does that and then whinges about how much money he pays in child maintenance is a shittier one. One who does both those and then goes on holiday to Disneyland without his child is worse.

I don't know why I'm bothering. There will always be women lining up to defend shit men.

And we know that EOW isn’t at the instigation of the mum how ?

Maria1979 · 26/11/2024 06:24

To all the folks who like Disneyland : Ofcourse you're entitled to like whatever you want. For me it's torture but endurable when I see the joy of my kids but each to their own and I'm sure you would be bored by a lot of things I like as well.

For me the bimbo epithet is unisex and I have met some male bimbos as well as female so I don't get the sexist connotation.

I do meet ex frequently even though we're not close and she has been through hell after the divorce fighting for every penny and going through mh problems. My sympathy is clearly with her and not with her ex who cheated on her with younger woman until she found out the hard way and broke it off. A normal father would atleast have the decency to not be stingy with his son. If he'd paid what he owns without trying to stall and whine (he's well off) I wouldn't care if he goes to Hawaï or Disneyland with his new gf. But under the circumstances it's really vile to neglect his son financially while splurging on himself. For those who can't see that, well I hope you never have to go through something similar.

For those who are being vile and agressive: you can disagree with someone without making personal attacks. It really shows your double standards and I understand why some people say that Mn is a hostile place.

Bimbo is not unisex. It is a term used against women to label them both stupid and sexually available. It's a way of putting women down and is judgemental.
Of course you're getting a hard time. This is a predominantly female space, so we're going to be critical of terminology, used to put women down, which many of us thought had gone out of common usage in about 1975.

TroysMammy · 26/11/2024 06:48

Isn't the male equivalent a himbo?

Isn't the male equivalent a himbo?

Yes, I've seen that! Rarely, of course, because it's men! However, I've seen bimbo changed to himbo to make it applicable to men.
"Unisex"? Nonsense.

Heatherbell1978 · 26/11/2024 06:59

Is he actually 'neglecting his son financially' though? I took from the OP that this 8 year old has already been to Disneyland which is quite privileged in my opinion. My kids haven't been as I can't justify £10K for a holiday. What is the boy missing out on that his father should be paying for?

You can do Disneyland Paris for much less than 10k! We did it last year for five of us for 1.5k with the eating plan for five nights!

It's hardly surprising that a predominantly female site will be somewhat hostile towards very misogynistic posts like your OP. Do you expect us to just turn a blind eye to the misogyny?

RosieLeaf · 26/11/2024 09:25

Only got as far as ‘bimbo’

Yabu

whathaveiforgotten · 26/11/2024 09:27

I wonder if you'd have mentioned hair colour if describing a man OP? What on earth is the relevance of her being blonde?

BeMintBee · 26/11/2024 09:43

You can disagree with some without personal attacks? Hmm says the woman calling another woman a bimbo!

oh and give over with your bimbo is a unisex insult nonsense.

THisbackwithavengeance · 26/11/2024 10:01

YANBU.

Why didn't you call him out at the time? I'd have said "very strange that you're not taking <name of DS> to Disney with you given that it's literally a kids holiday destination"

And what sort of weirdos go on couples holiday to Disney without DCs?

Letmegohome · 26/11/2024 10:25

@THisbackwithavengeance bonkers response lots of adults go on holiday to Disney just because you don't want to go doesn't mean others don't want to

Rubytuesday77 · 26/11/2024 10:30

Not just men who can be mean. I know a woman who went without her kids because she wanted a holiday with her new man.

Which is fine if she otherwise doesn't neglect her kids. This is not the case here.

The word bimbo derives from the Italian bimbo, a masculine-gender term that means "little or baby boy" or "young (male) child" (the feminine form of the Italian word is bimba). Use of this term began in the United States as early as 1919, and was a slang word used to describe an unintelligent or brutish man.

Do you live in a box and think everyone else should think just like you? Because that would be what I call a hardcore weirdo.

I don't know about that since I don't shave during the wintermonths. My hairy legs in a short babydoll dress..not sure that would get me to Disneyland..

In which case why did you use it to describe this woman in the context of her looks?
