gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

@PinkRetro I cannot believe people actually think in this way, or it must be me and i’m
a disgusting person as I often spend Sundays in pjs if not going out and yes I cook in them too…they don’t start to stink of food. I thought I was quite uptight about a few things in life and have some anxieties, but bloody hell

PinkRetro · 24/11/2024 23:01

Maybe I have a strong sense of smell then as I absolutely reeked after cooking a lentil bolognese the other night. The smell clung to all my clothes. Same as when I go to coffee shops I have to change as the coffee smell is rank.

sesquipedalian · 24/11/2024 23:08

I’m astounded that anyone should spend the whole of any day in their PJs, much less Christmas Day, which for me is a chance to dress up (and yes, I do smell of cooking at the end of the day, even with a most capacious apron!)

I find it odd that you’re “dressing up” but not going anywhere.

I regard Christmas Day as a bit of a party. I cook the nicest dinner of which I am capable and always have a fair few family members with whom to share it. Why, when I am making an effort with everything else, would I not make an effort with my clothes? I absolutely appreciate “different strokes for different folks”, but that’s how we do it in our house. The OP asked if spending the day in my PJs appealed to me - that would be a hard no!

Faz469 · 25/11/2024 03:05

I'm working christmas eve night and christmas day night so will definitely be spending all of christmas day in my PJs.

However normally when off work I prefer to put in some effort and get a little dressed up. It's always been a tradition of ours as a family

Sheknowsaboutme · 25/11/2024 06:54

No. Its lazy. Christmas day or not, its lazy.

Why do you think it’s lazy? When I think of lazy, it’s when people sit around doing very little? Wearing special pyjamas for Christmas Day isn’t being lazy - no different from getting up and putting on any outfit.

We’re getting dressed up - in special pyjamas - has taken me weeks to decide on which pair to buy. Am looking forward to feeling elegant for the day.,

pilates · 25/11/2024 07:40

I’m don’t find pyjamas are the most flattering unless you are size 6 which I’m unfortunately not.

Needmorelego · 25/11/2024 07:57

@pilates I have the opposite thinking.
I'm waaaay beyond a size 6 and I prefer pyjamas (or loungewear ) because they are generally loose fitting and actually fit me.

NerrSnerr · 25/11/2024 09:30

Sheknowsaboutme · 25/11/2024 06:54

Does it matter if it is lazy? What if someone decided for their Christmas Day they wanted to sit and do nothing (in pyjamas or any other attire) because that's what makes them happy. What's the issue with that?

For most people life is really busy with lots of things going on. There's no shame in wanting a 'lazy' day occasionally.

If you'd prefer a not so lazy Christmas then great, do what makes you happy but if a lazy day makes others happy then what's the problem?

Christmas Day is definitely a party day for our family as well. We make a lot of effort over our outfits - for us they happen to be pyjamas.

I find the ones I have are flattering but wish they did them in longer leg length - I’m quite leggy and some aren’t long enough!

pilates · 25/11/2024 10:51

You’re not selling it to me @Parker231 but I do love your enthusiasm 😀

I dress up for Christmas! Something sparkly and exciting that I can’t really wear any other time of year.

Exciting??

WTAF is exciting about an item
of clothing??

@VioletSpeedwell I don't wear traditional PJ's, I'll be at a friends & will be wearing cropped leggings, the thinnest pair I own & a Christmas t shirt. If I'm still melting like a candle I'll change into bike shorts.

its like a day on the sun. They seem to think it's some treat, I spend half the day outside trying to cool down!

they'll be in joggers/jeans & Christmas t-shirts/jumpers. Their teens don't seem to notice it's like a bakers oven & still wear jumpers/hoodies.

id do the same if I was at home. (But with the heating off/down & being able to stay inside)

so not PJ's but not dressed up either.

Parker231 · 21/11/2024 17:40

Why?

Edited

@Parker231

because it’s nice to wear nice clothes sometimes for a special occasion rather than slobbing about in pj’s or loungewear like regular evenings!

Needmorelego · 25/11/2024 11:31

@LuckySantangelo35 define "nice clothes".....
What's nice to you may not be nice to someone else.

My new pyjamas are nice - infact they are gorgeous! I won’t be slobbing about - why would I? It’s a special day not a regular day.

@Needmorelego

Anything other than pyjamas, jogging bottoms or leggings tbh! Doesn’t have to be a ballgown or anything!

Yes - that’s what our family wears on Christmas Day. Doesn’t mean that we will be lazy or slob about. Why would your clothes determine how you act?

Needmorelego · 25/11/2024 11:40

@LuckySantangelo35 that's your opinion about clothes. What you find nice others might not and vice versa.
But who cares?
I don't care at all what others choose to wear on Christmas Day - except if Great Uncle Bob turned up in a Nazi uniform or something.
I also don't care if people want to slob around on Christmas Day.
Everyone is different.....

That's literally what clothing does though. It determines how you act and also sends a message.

It's why schools insist on uniforms, why in the corporate world people dress smartly, why lawyers wear a wig and gown, why we have black tie events, hats at weddings etc etc etc.

Wear what you like in your own home but you can't deny that clothing is a signifier.

Ilikemymenlikeilikemycoffee · 25/11/2024 12:47

Eurgh never!
I consider Christmas an exciting day and I want to get up and put nice clothes on, do my hair and makeup etc. I’d feel grubby in pjs!
