gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I know it’s daft but once I’ve done the horses I get into a nice sparkly top or dress. Then as soon as Christmas lunch is over I get back into my horse stuff ready to go back out to them. I wish I could stay in pjs but it reminds me of being ill but I do think those that are in them must be super comfy.

I understand what you mean about pyjamas and feeling ill. It's not daft at all.

I used to be a nurse. We encouraged our patients to get dressed as soon as they were well enough, because it made them feel better mentally and physically and promotes recovery.

Clothing is important. It affects the way we feel and behave.

Cooking smells on clothes are horrible.
I cooked a lentil bolognese the other night in day clothes and ended up changing as the smell clung to them. I can't imagine doing that in pyjamas and then wearing them to bed. Yuck.
Even when I go to coffee shops I change when I get home as the smell of coffee really clings to my clothing.

Why would I go to bed in clothes smelling of food because I’ve worn pyjamas?

Indeed. Pyjamas make me feel so relaxed and comfortable and cosy and happy 🙂

Grapewrath · 24/11/2024 15:20

I think pjs feel skanky you’re sat round unwashed and with your teeth not brushed… like when you’re ill
But surely if you’re up and showered etc a fresh clean pair of pjs isn’t different to a pair of trackies

Me too. At night. When I go to bed.

During the day they would make me feel slovenly and lethargic.

That’s why on Christmas Day we get up have a shower and put on new special silk pyjamas bought specially for the day. Makes me feel glamorous and ready for a fun filled day.

But why do you feel so offended by people feeling comfortable, happy and cosy in their own homes on Christmas Day? What an odd thing to care about. You seem really sad.

Minniliscious · 24/11/2024 16:02

No to PJ’s - would kind of love the opportunity though but i’m always hosting in some capacity on Christmas Day! Therefore, I like to dress up and maybe add a Santa hat and some red lippy.

Why would a different outfit make you feel slovenly - they are new clothes - specially for Christmas Day.

Every time I see a picture of your PJs I grin. 😁 This is so similar to our family.

I end up with about five pairs. Christmas Eve (once the wild Norwegian feasting ends), Christmas morning (after my shower, for the terminally offended!), then for bed. Then Boxing Day morning and Boxing Day night!

And we do go out on these days, too. We're in Norway and we go out for a few walks with the dogs or whatever, but not in our PJs. Christmas Eve is a massive all day party, Christmas Day is quiet, and Boxing Day is a birthday party...in PJs! 😂 Bloody love it.

NYE we fancy up. Though not always. Sometimes I just get a sparkly nightie!

Ohdearwhatcanthematterbethen · 24/11/2024 16:13

If it’s just us at home, stay in them all day, why not 🤷🏻‍♀️today it’s windy and cold and not going anywhere so I’ve stayed in my new christmas pjs and socks. I still brush hair and teeth, put deodorant etc. I’ll shower in the morn to start the week tomorrow morning. Who are all
these people that are so dirty, they cant go one day not showering or changing out of pjs?? Embrace relaxation 💓

VioletSpeedwell · 24/11/2024 16:14

Yes how lovely and superior, being brought up to turn people away based on how they’re dressed

Nope. Just pyjamas when visiting someone and not being ill.

No doesn’t appeal - I often put a dress on or a Christmas jumper - we always go to the pub on Christmas Day.

So, based on how they’re dressed then?

I’ve never and most likely will never leave the house in my pyjamas. But nor will I turn my child away from my house if they were in pyjamas. What a concept! 😂

Not offended at all. I'm just surprised that so many people on here need pyjamas to feel "comfortable, happy and cosy".

The people I know in real life are capable of feeling "comfortable, happy and cosy" when properly dressed.

I think it's sad that you assume dressing properly makes me sad.

I would not turn my child, or anyone else I know, away if they turned up in pyjamas. I would be very concerned that they were very ill or suffering some kind of crisis and needed my help.

It is not something anyone I know in real life has ever done or would do though.

We have a big party on Christmas Eve every year. We invite family, friends and neighbours. All sorts of people. We have an open house on Boxing Day morning. We have a house full of family guests staying from Christmas Eve until after Boxing Day.

We have done this every year for many years and not once has anyone turned up in pyjamas or failed to get dressed during the day.

I think some of the people on here are on a massive wind-up. I know a lot of people and I am sure (or as sure as I can be) none of them believe that wearing pyjamas is the only way to enjoy Christmas and everyone in normal clothes must be sad...

I’ve not said that celebrating in special pyjamas is the only way - it’s the way for my extended family and will continue to be. I’m surprised that people “dress up” when they are staying at home for the day.

I think people are sad if they fail to understand that other people celebrate in different ways to you do and this doesn’t make us lazy, having a mental breakdown or slovenly.

We have a themed competition for Christmas Day pyjamas. This year it’s wildlife, last year was pets. It’s DS’s turn to decide next year - I have some concerns over his potential choice. He’s 24, and lives in Amsterdam. I’ve told him that the red light district should not be used! I’m hoping he sticks to sport - or beer!
One year we had a Ken and Barbie theme - seeing my DM and DMil in their bright pink Barbie pyjamas was hilarious and the memories will last us all forever.

We will get changed out of the pyjamas at some point but only so we can go skiing.

I dunno, the name calling seems to be just going in one direction to me....

smellsfishy · 24/11/2024 20:00

Not all day for me - it's like being ill without being ill. We sit around in them for breakfast & stockings & champagne drinking in the morning though. Feels decadent enough!

Also I don't want to walk the dogs in pjs. Or cook in pjs. But I really and truly don't care what other people get up to - it's Christmas - each to their own version of happiness!

Ahhhh this is perfection! I can imagine your DS turning up in one of those pinnies (but as PJs) with boobs on. 😂

Best year here was "old lady" PJs. Easy for me, but DH ended up with a pair of too short frilly blue things and his little hairy ankles sticking out. 😂 We don't always theme though, that was lockdown and I think his Mam might gripe at her son in a leotard or something. Or maybe just not fancy her pasties. 😁

I'm still on the hunt, I can't find what I want this year. I'm after Victorian-style for some and just fuzzy things for others.

Cooking smells attach themselves to clothes so if you cook in your pyjamas and then go to bed in them you are going to smell? @Parker231 .

We won’t be doing any cooking on Christmas Day - it’s a cold buffet and I won’t be wearing the same pyjamas to go to bed in anyway

PinkRetro · 24/11/2024 22:02

A lot will cook though.
Hopefully they will change their pj's before bed.
