gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

@thestudio has nailed it. Stasis.

Thinking about it no one in my house even owns any pyjamas.. so no we won’t be in them. Teens will likely be in joggers but the rest of us will wear something nice and vaguely festive.
I don’t cook on Christmas Day ( dp does) so my job is to mingle, refill drinks and nuts bowls and generally be a hostess so I feel more up to the task in something a bit sparkly.
I also can’t think of the last time I didnt leave the house all day and always have a walk on Christmas morning. I’d find being indoors all day really depressing actually.

ToffeePennie · 21/11/2024 12:44

Christmas Eve - when we have our huge Christmas dinner, it’s posh frocks and shirts time.
Christmas Day which is just us is comfy joggers and Christmas T-shirts and lounge wear, for our walk I will put on a pair of leggings and a nice coat over it all.

Whammyammy · 21/11/2024 12:52

I wish. Up at 7 to do the horses, back to walk the dogs round the village, which is nice as everyone cheery.
Back for a shower, have breakfast and then do presents.
Grown up kids will either be visiting or staying. Sometimes pop to the pub.

So a large family having a family pj competition is self-centred ? Have you not heard of having a fun day?

You've done that thing where you, either through dimness or because you love to be outraged, don't see that your specific circumstances or rationale makes you the exception to the general point being made.

The OP, incredibly, isn't talking about large family PJ competitions, which few would consider to be a common occurrence. If she were, then I would have defended to the death your right to a Fun Day.

ItGhoul · 21/11/2024 12:54

I love pyjamas but I wouldn't want to stay in them for the entire day, either at Christmas or any other time. We don't have kids and usually spend Christmas with my mum and brother, or my MIL, so it's an informal and low-key affair. I usually wear something that's a bit smarter than what I'd wear for a normal day, but also comfortable, like a jersey dress or a jumpsuit, and I always put makeup on, wear perfume and jewellery etc. I then change into fresh pyjamas around 8-9pm for evening lounging/boozing/snacking/TV/a game or whatever.

That's just me, though. I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with people staying in their pyjamas if they want to - I'm very much of the opinion that people should do whatever they enjoy on Christmas Day. If I had guests and they wanted to wear their pyjamas all day I'd be more than happy for them to do that. It makes no difference to anyone else.

AuntieMarys · 21/11/2024 12:58

We go for a 5-7 mile walk in the morning, drink.at pub then home to shower and put on lounge wear as opposed to pj's.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/11/2024 12:59

I absolutely hate the idea of staying in pyjamas all day! I've literally only done it when in hospital or very severely ill. Even if I've got something like a heavy cold or stomach bug I will wash (minimum) and get dressed and settle on the sofa for the day.

Topseyt123 · 21/11/2024 13:06

Nope. I get up, shower and get dressed. Staying in PJs all day would not appeal to me. It would feel bone idle and as though I hadn't bothered to start the day properly.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2024 13:48

Nothing wrong with being "bone idle" on Christmas Day! Although how it's possible to be both bone idle and cook Christmas dinner is beyond me...

AegonT · 21/11/2024 13:51

The kids stay in PJs to open stockings and possibly to eat breakfast but the grown-ups prefer to wear clothes. The kids then change into Christmas dresses or other smart Christmas clothing mid morning.

Verv · 21/11/2024 13:58

I dont own pyjamas, but im perfectly happy in joggers and a hoodie at Christmas as it's just us and quiet/comfortable.
I dont need sequins to sit on the couch eating quality street 😅

GymBergerac · 21/11/2024 14:00

We never have visitors on Christmas Day.so it's actually the perfect excuse for us to stay in pyjamas all day! I run first thing in the morning, and by the time I get home, DH has usually lit the fire and put something festive and silly on TV. I have a shower, put on fresh pyjamas (tbh they're not specifically pyjamas, I sleep in a big t shirt and put legging on when it's cold) and we do presents and lazy breakfast.
No need to get dressed up, but to be fair I couldn't get too stressed about what other people wore on Christmas day even if we did have visitors. I think it's a day of the year where normal rules don't apply! 😁

Magnastorm · 21/11/2024 14:14

New, freshly laundered and ironed pajamas the night before, to be donated to the poor on boxing day.
Change formal morning wear for breakfasting. May relax things slightly here by forgoeing the advocado.
Change into church clothes for church.
Change into outdoor walking clothes for walking the dogs.
Change into formal speach watching wear for watching King's speech.
Change into formal evening wear for drinks.
Change into formal sports wear for monopoly.
Change into new pajamas for falling in front of TV watching Die Hard.

Anything else is just lazy, IMO.

RedPony1 · 21/11/2024 14:16

i've never stayed in all day, neither do i own PJ's...

Having horses and dogs means resting is impossible!

Parker231 · 20/11/2024 19:25

We have a family tradition - it involves both sides of the family and three generations. We’re all together for Christmas. Up and have a shower and then dress up in our Christmas pj’s ready for the competition with scoring. No cooking to worry about as we’re having a cold buffet. Some may get into ski gear later as we’re staying at DSil in Colorado this year.

These were last years.

That might be the only situation, excluding ill health, where it is acceptable to wear pyjamas all day! 🤣🤣

Why wouldn’t it be acceptable if that’s what people want to do? I don’t get why people dress up on Christmas Day when they are only going to the local pub or restaurant but if that’s what they want to do, all good.

doodleschnoodle · 21/11/2024 15:51

If my husband wanted to spend Christmas Day in his pyjamas I'd go right off him.

Sounds like a really solid, loving relationship you have there 🤣

Inthefreakmidwinter · 21/11/2024 16:41

A non pyjama wearer but I also find the idea of wearing Christmas sweaters all day a bit ick as well.

Our relationship is solid and loving. And respectful. He would have to be a very different person to the man I married to want to slob around in pyjamas on Christmas Day. Or any day for that matter unless he was too ill to get out of bed.

stayathomer · 21/11/2024 16:52

I love getting into pyjamas at night but can’t keep them on in the morning. I feel bad sometimes that I nag the kids out of them too but it literally drives me mad to see people not dressed!!!

TheWorminLabyrinth · 21/11/2024 16:56

NerrSnerr · 21/11/2024 09:15

I agree with the posters about the sneering. People who are genuinely happy with their life and choices don't feel the need to sneer at others for something so daft as what they choose to wear in their own homes. Words like 'slobbing' etc.

I know people think it makes them look superior but it just makes them look like Hyacinth Bucket.

Agreed.

I do think people like this must have really quite small lives. Truly happy people don't go around calling others lazy, or slobby, or smelly, for making different choices, do they.

What do you think people do if they are going to slob around in pyjamas?

Oldraver · 21/11/2024 17:16

I rarely wear anything in bed so pyjamas are always clean

So I shower and put pj's on as clothes. I change before Christmas dinner

Rumblytumblytea · 21/11/2024 17:23

Ick!!!

I would want to be in clothes by 10-11 am latest
