gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I think it’s slovenly. I would never stay in pyjamas all day. Maybe if I was terminally ill. Getting dressed and wearing nice clothes makes you feel good.

Deargodletitgo · 21/11/2024 17:30

Won't be with kids on Christmas day as divorced, but will probably spend one day in PJ's with films and yummy Christmas foods. Christmas themed pjs have been ordered

Why would it be slovenly to have a shower and change into a new pair of luxurious silk pyjamas? They certainly made me feel and look good.

It makes YOU feel good. Don't assume that everyone else is as uptight.

Agreed. I get showered and dressed every day of the week so the odd day lounging around in pjs not moving from sofa and ordering on Deliveroo makes me feel fabulous and chilled

Absolutely not! We all get dressed up for Christmas Day Smile

Why?

TrtseHkpr · 21/11/2024 17:53

Oh yes, I plan to do just that. I have some lovely Christmas pyjamas to wear on the day, it's just me and OH so we can do as we please 😀

strungouteyes · 21/11/2024 17:55

Gives me the ick. I prefer to get dressed unless I'm horribly sick, even then I like to try to put on leggings and a t-shirt at least. Personal preference.

Greenshed · 21/11/2024 17:56

Oh no, I could never slob around all day in my nightwear. Yuk.

StampOnTheGround · 21/11/2024 17:57

Yes I love it - we all get up and into our fresh Christmas pyjamas, we don't leave the house to visit anyone and nobody comes to us!

We both did this when we were younger with our families, so we have just kept the routine!

However, if I am in the house, I always get into my 'comfy clothes' anyway - I wouldn't be chilling on the sofa in jeans.

muddyford · 21/11/2024 17:58

Each to their own but I've never understood why people get dressed up in sparkly outfits to sit in their own house eating dinner with their own family.

ILoveCats89 · 21/11/2024 18:16

If I'm home all in jammies. I find them warmer and comfier.
I go to my parents for Christmas day... in my jammies

mrsg1981 · 21/11/2024 18:20

We love staying in jammies all day. We don’t go anywhere on Christmas Day though so no need for outside clothes 😂

BooBooDoodle · 21/11/2024 18:31

Who cares, let folk crack on. Christmas Day is spent in fresh Christmas pjs or jumpers. We don’t go out and enjoy our day the way we want to. If we have a lazy weekend and the weather shit and we have zero rugby games to get to then we veg around and watch movies under duvets. We do too much running about, dressing up and getting made up for work. Life isn’t a fashion show and when we can be us and do what we want we go for it.

I don't really get the Mn obsession with pyjamas, especially the people who get into them immediately after they get home from work. It makes me wonder what on earth they wear to work that is so uncomfortable it can't be borne at home. And I can't imagine closing down the evening that early. Presumably no one is going to climb back out of their pyjamas and go for a drink with friends, make an impulse decision to see a film, or go for a run. It just seems depressingly early to close down the day.

It appeals to me but sadly I have things to do and have to go out so I can’t. I get in from work, shower and put pjs on now it’s cold and dark, I don’t do it in the summer though.

I usually DO wear PJs all christmas day. but I don't sleep in PJs. they're what I wear from as soon as I get in to as soon as I go to bed, then I take them off. they're homewear for me, not sleepwear.
back when we all used to go up to the local pub Christmas morning (locals get a free pint, and it's nice to see everyone, before heading back home) used to wear them then. it always felt very festive, and we weren't the only ones doing it.

CrowleyKitten · 21/11/2024 19:21

housemaus · 20/11/2024 19:45

My childhood Christmases were like this - we would maybe put our new clothes on to eat Christmas dinner (which we always had late in the day, about 6pm), but not always. Christmas day in our family was about being cosy and doing very little other than spending time together - we weren't up super early, we didn't go for a nice bracing walk etc, we never went visiting relatives or to the pub or church or anything that I see other families do. It felt like a really special bubble of a day where it was just us.

I loved it and miss it now, because as an adult we now spend Christmas going between my mum's and DH's dad's, so I never get the pyjamas-all-day Christmas of my childhood!

our lot all live quite close together, so we normally go to te in laws earlier in the day, to see all his sisters, and nephews and neices and that lot. and I do that in my PJs. initially, they were a bit bemused by it, but I think they've always thought me a little odd at least, and when I said that that's what we do in my family, they accepted it. in fact, they quite often get me things like PJs, fluffy socks, those massive fleecy hoodies etc for Christmas, as they realised how much I love my cosy wear. which is great for me, as I really do love something to snuggle and get cosy in. I don't even wear outdoor clothes at home. the first thing I do is get changed into my "cozies" and I only get changed into outdoor stuff when I'm about to leave. I don't sleep in them, I'm a nude sleeper, but they're what I wear around the house. I can't understand how my husband can happily wear jeans all day. I have some lovely comfy jeans, but when I'm curled up in my corner of the sofa, the seams bother me. fine for about and busy, but not for relaxing.

CrowleyKitten · 21/11/2024 19:26

LuckySantangelo35 · 20/11/2024 19:46

Why on earth WOULDNT you get dressed?!

oh, I DO get dressed. I sleep naked. PJs, to me, are for wearing around the house and being comfortable. If I'm out, I'm looking forward to getting into my PJs the way some people look forward to taking their bra off. it's the first thing I do when I get home, and I only change out of them for bath, bed, or leaving the house.

I never sleep in them, unless I'm staying at someone else's house.

RebeccaRedhat · 21/11/2024 19:29

Xmas jumper and leggings. Comfortable but feeling festive!

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 19:30

@FierceQuiet when I worked my uniform was a formal blouse made out of stiff material and a straight skirt made from thick rough material and we were required to wear tights.
They then allowed us to wear trousers which were formal cut ones - again out of rough material and they were fairly tight around even slim tummies and tight on thighs.
That is why I would strip it off the second I got home. There was absolutely no way I could relax and chill with that horrible outfit on.
Pjs/loungewear/leggings/trackies went straight on.

I’ve never done it on Christmas Day but I have been known to have a pyjama day. I don’t necessarily plan one but especially on a Sunday when there’s nothing doing I want to have a lazy morning so lounge about in them while I have breakfast and a cup of tea or two and then it’s lunchtime then there comes a point where it’s not really worth getting dressed. I don’t open up the outer door so no one knows we are home but I will brush my teeth and wash my face as usual. Usually about 4pm I’ll have a shower and put on a fresh pair of pyjamas.

Going for a walk on Christmas Day is my idea of absolute hell though. I want to get up, crack into the Buck’s Fizz at 9am, eat and fall asleep on the couch.

it's a long running family joke about how about an hour after Christmas dinner, I always say I'm going to have a lie down in front of the fire (usually cuddling the dog for a bit) then almost invariably fall asleep in a food coma face down, and they all balance things on me and take photographs.
about an hour later, I wake up and have a second wind.
but yeah, my face down fireside floor naps are a Christmas tradition now, I suppose 😂

I suspect there is a correlation between people who are horrified at the idea of daytime PJ-wearing and people who use "breakfast" as a verb Xmas Grin
