gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

@Maverick101 well if it was that I probably would wash them before.
I don't always wash brand new PJ's though. My daughter has sometimes been so excited to wear new PJ's that she has pulled them out the Primark bag and put them on before I've had time to hang my coat up 😂

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 10:45

@henlake7 I don't leave my flat unless I have too. If I want fresh air I open the door to my Juliet balcony.
(I don't have a dog though 🐶)

To be honest I never believe anyone who says they have a shower and then put on a clean power pyjamas for the day.

Absolutely agree.

I think people who are too lazy to dress properly are unlikely to bother washing.

Once you have made the effort to shower, you might as well dress properly too.

All this nonsense about proper day clothes not being comfortable is just an excuse for slovenly behaviour and a poor example to set to children.

Makes you snarly when you're not getting laid. Happy, content and satisfied people don't call people names and consider others less than them. It's weird.

Be careful - this particular snarky poster will accuse you of having no sex life (as if it’s relevant/ as if it’s a crime) if you express a negative opinion on MN…..

"To be honest I never believe anyone who says they have a shower and then put on a clean power pyjamas for the day."

Why? what a bizarre thing to disbelieve.

I have a shower and then wear loungewear. I spend most of my time at work and wear business attire so it's bliss to be able to relax in my time off. Not quite sure what's so unbelievable about that 🙄

That isn't the same as slobbing around in pyjamas.

Loungewear is casual day wear and on a freshly showered body, perfectly acceptable day time clothing.

NerrSnerr · 21/11/2024 11:41

@DocileWimps Poor example to set to children? What do you think will happen if children are in an environment where some days people choose to wear pyjamas if they don't go out?

Maybe it's a good example, living in a relaxed environment where people are not worried or judgemental about what they're wearing in their own home?

GiraffeTree · 21/11/2024 11:41

It's a no from me.

I think it's likely that slobbing around in grubby pyjamas would significantly reduce your chances of getting laid. 🤢

Gogogo12345 · 21/11/2024 11:50

I don't even own any pajamas so definitely not

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/11/2024 11:52

Mostly this thread is just showing who is a dog owner and who isn't! I can't spend all day in my pyjamas, much as I would like to, as the dog needs a good yomp over the fields at least once a day (and yes, I have tried doing this in my pjs and it did not end well).

Teenagerantruns · 21/11/2024 11:53

I have been in pj's for last 2 days, no shower, just enjoying my days off work, l will shower later in preparation for work tommorow and put clean pj's on. I could care less if anyone judges me.
I will be working Christmas day so no pjs for me, would if l could.

LochNessy · 21/11/2024 11:54

We all do fresh pjs when we wake up (I don’t sleep in pjs) and then we go for a long walk at about 11ish so we obviously get dressed for that (Christmas jumpers and jeans - nothing too dressy) and have our meal at about 4 we get home. Then after dinner we often get back into pjs if we want too.

thestudio · 21/11/2024 12:01

I honestly get the ick at this at any time of year. It's depressing because it feels inert and apathetic, and creates a general atmosphere of stasis that affects the whole house.

Sleepwear is for sleep.

As ridiculous as I'm sure I'll be told I am being, it feels symptomatic of a general drift towards individualism/self-centredness and away from 'shared' anything - norms, wellbeing, sense of purpose and common goals etc. It's a small thing when set against all the other egregious examples of 'me first', but fundamentally it comes from the same place - my comfort is the most important thing. "You don't have to look."

Also (and related) it makes me think of bumjuices.

WinterBones · 21/11/2024 12:01

Nope, we have christmas jumpers/tshirts we tend to wear xD

I will get up and have breakfast in the winter/xmas/new pjs we got for going to sleep in xmas eve, (not a new thing either, i'm 43 and my parents did it for me when i was a little child.) then get dressed about 10ish.

Might put PJ's back on about 7pm to relax with a drink for the evening.

What’s slobbering? I’ll be wearing new PJ’s after showering but nothing lazy or negative about it.

So a large family having a family pj competition is self-centred ? Have you not heard of having a fun day?

My two Christmas Day outfits this year are new pj’s and then ski gear. I promise we will shower at least once and the grandparents and children will all be doing the same. There will be no slovenly behaviour!!!

It's not fun though. A large family sitting around eating and drinking in clothing they wear in bed is dreary and depressing.

If my husband wanted to spend Christmas Day in his pyjamas I'd go right off him.

Lavender14 · 21/11/2024 12:10

I would wear nice Xmas jammies in the morning for opening presents and breakfast but then change into comfy clothes for the rest of the day. It doesn't give me the ick as such if they're clean jammies and I'm clean, but I like to feel festive and get the use out of an Xmas jumper

It is fun for us and I won’t be wearing these pj’s in bed! My DH looks gorgeous in pj’s - sexy! Nothing dreary or depressing about our Christmas Day fun!

Ah I think I get it. People think we wear PJs to bed and are just leaving them on all day.

PaminaMozart · 20/11/2024 19:03

No way.
11am - 12pm max.

By all means get back into your pyjamas a couple of hours after Christmas dinner has finished, or late afternoon, but there's no way I'd accept people coming to the table in sleep attire.

This.

We enjoy getting dressed up for Christmas.

RaraRachael · 21/11/2024 12:19

I would maybe still be in mine until we open presents but then change into comfy clothes.

Tbh being in my jammies is an infinitely preferable idea to getting dressed up in a fancy outfit to sit and eat dinner in my own house

SoupDragon · 21/11/2024 12:21

I have fond memories of sitting in my fresh Christmas onesie at 8:30am drinking coffee with a shot of rum in it, waiting for my kids to get up.
