I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

Why don't you wash your dog? I've got two who get bathed every three weeks minimum and one gets clipped afterwards. Their bedding gets a hot wash every week

Depends on the breed.

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 22:35

@YeOldeGreyhound I'm pretty sure that an unwashed dog of a year does smell

Hellohelga · 18/11/2024 22:37

Good for you OP getting all the love and cuddles you can. My two labs are big and they snore so they sleep in the kitchen, but we love cuddles on the bed or sofa. Never bath them ever - wash mucky bits with a jay cloth and towel dry.

Yes, of dog. And the dog smell is not nasty.
I only bathe my dog when she has rolled in something.

rickandmorts · 18/11/2024 22:37

We have a lurcher so for 23 hours of the day she's under a duvet with just a long snout sticking out to breathe 😂 she comes out to eat and have a run about and is back under. She's a bit annoying to sleep with as she's all pointy legs and bones but who am I to stop her.

coldcallerbaiter · 18/11/2024 22:38

Rolled in shit, vom.
Dogs in the house is dirty, let alone in the bed.

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 22:38

@YeOldeGreyhound I'm happy with my routine and you seem happy with yours

Well, that is what matters. My dog sleeping in my bed affects no one else, and I am happy with that.

Aw, the pointy breeds do love their bed! They are like a sack of elbows.

I can’t decide which I like best - the smell of my dogs’ paws or the smell of their bellies. After they have been curled up and uncurl the belly smell is strongest. Their feet smell strongly of biscuits all the time.

Amalala · 18/11/2024 22:42

Oddball single Pringle here 👋of course dog on bed. Such short little lives they have, and such better company than many partners. We do a joy stretch ‘downward dog’ together each morning too. Best bit of the day.

I genuinely think that is the last time my own dad had a bath too. He is vile.
Humans can be gross too 😅

He was in the pond too???

I wish he was! He would have at least got some water on him.

My current 2 dogs are very short-haired and dirt just falls off them so they are generally really clean.
And even if they weren't, I'd rather have a gritty bed with good snuggles than a clean lonely one!
And they asleep under the coveres because they feel the cold, but also I much prefer it to being pinned down by the on top the duvet.

Edited

I misread that as being pinned down on the bed by a vet!!! Feeling slightly triggered by the gritty bed, though. How do you know it isn't little balls of dried poop? 😦

😂😱I can't start my dinner until I've finished this thread, bloody wonderful!!!👀

My dog was so shut down when I got him home he hid behind the washing basket for nearly two weeks. I was over the moon when he eventually climbed on the bed.

I had a friend who had a little boy. She would crawl up in bed with him, and ask why his fingers smelt like bum.
Kids are gross.

🤣🤣🤣

JawsCushion · 18/11/2024 22:51

Mine used to sleep in her lovely bed downstairs. The day I asked h to leave, at bed time I said to her do you want to come, and she did. Slept with me every night since. Sometimes she gets off and sleeps on the rug, other times she goes downstairs in the night. Currently sleeping in the baby's blanket and snoring.

Ah I like to smell my dog’s head.

Look to all you non dog lovers, I get it, I used to be you. I thought dogs stank, didn’t like other people’s dogs. Preferred cats…

Then I was bamboozled in to getting our lab. And no way was he going on the sofa.. yet there is nowhere I’d rather be than sat on the sofa with his head on my lap. I can’t have him in bed with me. But so understand those that do.

RoseDog · 18/11/2024 22:52

My dog currently, we have 2 duvets so she's lying on the kingsize but under my single!

She's also still wearing her equafleece she wore on her walk earlier, she's cute and didn't want it off!

Wellingtonspie · 18/11/2024 21:46

But some of us have been dog owners. I now have cats. They are also not allowed upstairs. Also smell when wet and don’t say cats don’t get wet. One of ours plays in the fucking water bowl bastard 🤬

How in the name of , I don't know, I'm lost for words! You tell your cat no and it obeys you?
We have to leave all the doors ajar or she sits on my pillow swatting me at 3am.Interspersed with falling off sofas, biting her own tail and knocking stuff over. Anyway, back to the dogs...I want a dog or three now

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/11/2024 22:53

Just need to say to my 2 bed and they are straight upstairs.

Waitingfordoggo · 18/11/2024 22:53

Our dog sleeps on our bed, but on a blanket on the top. I think we'd all get too hot if he came under the duvet. He gets showered whenever he rolls in fox shit or a dead fish/bird, so roughly once a month, but I only lather up the neck, which is where the oomska usually is. I give his arse and groin a lather too. I don't care at all about dog germs in the bed.

jannier · 18/11/2024 22:54

I don't think you can smell dog when you have one then same as smokers don't smell it. My dog was a dog downstairs only and not on the sofa I sat on the floor with him.
