Husband picking au pair up from airport

Wanttokeepmyprivacy · 17/11/2024 19:59

Husband did the 3 hour round trip this eve as au pair went home for a few days. I am going through cancer treatment and I had another operation on Friday, discharged yesterday. Husband is a wonderful man but I know he is knackered. Au pair is a 21 year old stunner who is also a really lovely girl but I can’t help think she is young and fit and can make her own way from the airport and it’s not late at night. And my hubby could have spent the evening looking after me and the kids, or even relaxing rather than be a taxi driver for her. AIBU?

@TheOccupier Reported for fat shaming.
So overweight women aren't ever fancied in your mind? Wow

Why did you hire her if you’re insecure about someone attractive working in your home ? When we were hiring a cleaner and a home help I made sure the agency sent us candidates to interview first and I declined any who I felt were too attractive and chose ones that I knew dp wouldn’t fancy. They were all trained had dbs checks and weren’t alone with the dc at all so it didn’t bother me if the less attractive ones weren’t as good at cleaning or laundry. It’s totally my insecurity and jealousy though poor dp has never given me cause for concern but I didn’t want to have that anxiety.

And as for your question absolutely yes a 21 ye old should have been able to do that journey themselves or you could have paid for a taxi

My god pls don't pass this level of insecurity onto your children

Disturbia81 · 20/11/2024 18:01

@VegTrug It's gross isn't it.

VegTrug · 20/11/2024 18:06

@Horses7 Phew. My job would be safe then 🤓

Of course he fancies her. Why would you hire her though, it's such a cliche, husband and the nanny. I personally would hire an old dingbat, just saying..

Howling 😂😂 I’d also hire an old ding bat

ForTaupeJoker · 20/11/2024 20:47

Sorry to hear about your health and I wish you well. Husband saw a chance to drive car with pretty lass in it and this was to give himself a holiday from sensible loving husbandland and his concern for his beloved wife. Have a little chuckle to yourself and be pleased for him: show him you have no qualms whatsoever - do not make a joke or your voice might wobble. He's only offered cos she helps with children and his extra help could keep her employed at a challenging time. I speak as a former partner who would agonise over things but I now know that these moments of innocent enjoyment of beauty of young lady are nice for them to have and then they return home to you and heres the wise woman bit, u r just glad to see them and ask how the traffic was. Don't even mention nanny (and have a touch of blusher on) don't mention his kind lift etc. Just was it an ok drive roads wise? Act slightly distracted by something else but really calm. Think how attractive and confident u will remind him you are. Our jealousy is biologically normal but so can be our feminine wiles. Focus on deepest level of your love for this man. Good luck.

Why would you want a “ding bat” caring for your children?

Mine as well and I am 50. Are you a Cocteau twins fan by any chance ?

I was a massive CT fan back in the day. Hardly listen to them at all these days though.

mamajong · 21/11/2024 00:10

Why are her looks relevant? You either trust DH or you don't, there will always be young, attractive people but looks are just 1 part of the equation, a loving marriage and a family is far deeper. Even if he did fancy her, do you think she fancies him?? I'm amazed at how many insecure people on here would not hire someone because of their looks! Wtf? Surely how good they are at the important job of caring for your kids is the most important thing?

I'd take a friend or family to the airport, I have many times, if I can help someone out I always will, what they look like doesn't come into it. If my child was working abroad, I hope someone would look out for them, wouldn't you?!

To all the London commentors. I live in the suburbs of London. I would say London. But public transport to an airport from my house is not easy. We would always drive. It is true that you can easily travel about inside London and no reason why a 12 year old let alone 21 year old couldnt make their way around. But, if you are in the suburbs it can take 2.5 hours to get to an airport, whereas toh can drive it in 45 mins to an hour. Depending which airport and where you live. A 3 hour round trip to take someone to an airport is not a big deal, especially as it is a person who has been living with them and working for them for a low wage. I think OP is feeling vulnerable, understandable but not necessary as its just a lift.

I understand your point.
Alot people will shut you down saying you have trust issues and jealousy blah de blah.
But
It's so common
That when a woman spends time alone with a male then it can turn into something more.
Read the psychology behind the strictly curse.

I don't know what to suggest tbh.
As
You did hire her so you have to treat her right and staff do business trips together. But even business trips can turn to affairs.

Before people slam me down
Seriously
Work in a hospital
Work the night shift
After a few months
You will realise
That spending time with staff and the power imbalance of a male staff earning more and a young 25 year old falling at his feet that later turns into a full on affair and before you know it...families split and couple get together and then move to work at a different trust for a new start together.

In your case
It's the same.
You husband is her boss
She will be attracted to the power imbalance
And if single

Far too many romance books start like this

Call me delusional but you are right.

What a load of shite 🤣

Sure but the OP who knows where she lives described it thus:

Super easy, it’s London. Trains, buses, taxi . We would have paid

I also live in London and I don't know anyone who would drive to the airport. Because it's a huge arse, the parking and waiting is awkward. Even with my elderly Mil, we would send a taxi rather than drive ourselves

kiraric · 21/11/2024 08:06

I thought of this thread as I am on my commute into central London sitting opposite a 12 ish year old girl looking after her 9ish year old sister on the train..

Gwen Stefani ex husband slept with the nanny. David Beckham slept with the nanny.
It's not unusual.

I guess we don't know her exact address as to calculate the benefits of driving vs public transport😂 I am zone 6 and I would never get public transport to the airport as involves going in and out again. We always drive and use the long stay carparks, or taxi, or get a lift!

We don't but since she describes it as super easy, I think it's reasonable to assume it isn't super difficult

Trains or tube would make it easy going to and from the airport. They are both quick and reliable. Op did mention they would pay for a taxi.

So that must mean that all the nannies are sleeping with the fathers/husbands.

roastiepotato · 22/11/2024 06:38

What's her being a "stunner" got to do with it?

No what it means is that it does happen and you can't say it doesn't. You can't say all husbands will cheat with the nanny. The op has a feeling about her husband and his loyalty to her.

Obsessedwithlamps · 22/11/2024 10:02

Honestly the husband might fancy the nanny, but a 21 year old nanny is unlikely to be attracted to a married man with kids.

Really, my mate used to love a married man back in the day and she was younger than 21 a late teen.
