@Imbluedalale

So sorry to hear your news Laura it's not what any of us wanted for you but you have an army of Spoonies behind you this time.

I get the "Oh please can't I just get a break?". I've had the same experience where it seems like if there's a choice of routes, you end up going down the most difficult one every time. The number of times doctors have told me that I am unusual or unfortunate. With the doctors assessing and monitoring you, hopefully will pick up anything that needs treating at an early stage, when it's much more likely to have less impact on you. Hospitals can feel like alien environments but remember everyone who works there are wanting to help you get better or improve your life.

Regarding hiding your leg from your kids, I can see why you don't want your ex knowing. If you really don't want them to know anything then you can wear trousers etc. It's a bit trickier to explain why you are visiting the hospital though. It might make more sense to tell the truth but not all of it. Things will be so much easier when you have your kids with you and he's got less influence over them. Maybe explain they are removing the mole so it doesn't become a problem, but don't talk about the fact that you will need to stay with them for life long treatment. That way you will be able to be honest with how you are feeling after the operation and give them the opportunity to feel included and supportive of you too.

Morning spoonies! Lying in bed just had a cuppa and a mince pie. Please do not judge.
I am at the dentist at 9 am for a root canal on a big back tooth.
This in no way compares to what our @Imbluedalale is going through.
Hoping this might make you laugh today. I have a severe dental phobia. I now have a lovely dentist bless him he does his best.
I have had EMDR treatment which involves me tapping on my legs to calm the panic.
Also have some mobility issues, and can’t do bright lights. (I sound like a drama queen but there are valid reasons 😂)
Last time I went my other half forgot my wheelchair. After carrying me in there they put me on a leather couch. Very posh dentist. I’m in a knackered trackie. And huge sunglasses. Other patients are looking.
Other half tells a dental nurse he’s forgotten my wheels, so she offers us an office chair. On wheels.
So for the next half an hour I’m going between the dentist chair and x Ray on a pink office chair, sunglasses hanging off.
It was a tough job.
There I was lying in the chair, headphones on tuned into an episode of Eastenders, tapping away whilst repeating ‘I am in my safe space’ with water spraying over my sunglasses.
The lesson? Never fear public shame, embarrassment and humiliation 😂
And at the end I got wheeled into the street on that office chair.
Still in my 🕶️
(Today I’m going to repeat ‘the spoonies are with me’ and my lovely dentist won’t even ask!)

Sending you strength and hugs for the root canal treatment. It's hard going somewhere that you are scared. My daughter has chronic migraines after having had meningitis and struggles with lights. She's had times when she has to wear a blackout mask all day for days, including while at school. You definitely do end up having to ignore the embarrassment factor and do what you have to to get through.

I love the mental image of you flying outside from the dentist on the office chair. 😁

@Imbluedalale thanks that's the 2nd time magnesium has been mentioned recently. I was using Boots peri multi vitamins and Marine collagen as my hair and nails started coming apart!
It's natural to be worried. You have done it before and you will again but with so much more support. Those scars will become signs of strength of all the things your body has endured and has come through to get you well. His words will be a far off memory xx

Feather and Down make a lovely cream that has magnesium in and smells divine. I use it as a night time massage as the lavender is calming and it helps muscle pain.

Yep I had meningitis also, sadly left with long term stuff.
How is your DD now?
I was an absolute trouper and give myself a gold 🌟

Oh that looks amazing! I'm adding to basket now :), thank you. Also a good price.

Sorry @PeggyMitchellsCameo I mean to also say good luck for the dentist today. Hope you're rocking it in the sunglasses. I tend to just remind myself over and over that it'll soon be over at the dentist.

@TealPoet What you said about scars was so poignant and beautiful 😍.

Hope you're OK today Laura. Thinking of you as always and sending all the positive vibes. Honestly, the fact that your ex would be glad at your most recent news just says everything about him as a person - how could he not realise that wishing ill on you is the same as wishing ill on his children. They need you whether he likes that or not!

TealPoet · 29/11/2024 12:06

Thank you so much guys for your kind words - I thought you might like to see my beautiful boy. I miss him so.

Morning all!
@Imbluedalale How are you doing today lovely? Tired I bet, as not much sleep last night - try and nap later at least

Your battle scars tell a story...never be ashamed of them
YOU are amazing
Twat face, however, will always be a twat!!

Have you had some butter chicken yet? Was it good?
Would love the recipe when you get a chance.
I've decided to do some leek and potato soup later xx

@PeggyMitchellsCameo glad the dentist was ok, I'm there later but just for a check up,if you can call it that, bet I wont be in the chair for more than 2 mins .... does anyone know someone who likes going to the dentist??

@Apolloneuro sorry to hear that you are still rough, I have been reading about new treatments for chronic UTI, one was about long term AB's inserted into the bladder - might be worth an ask?
hope you feel better soon

Thanks @spoonfulofmustard Unfortunately this isn’t my first rodeo and I’m already under the care of bladder and bowel team. Have a phone appointment on 17th Dec. Xxx

Oh, he's so so gorgeous! Is he a whippet or lurcher? He looks like my dog who was a lurcher - we thought whippet cross greyhound mostly (also now sadly passed on 😥).

So sorry to hear about your bladder infection coming back @Apolloneuro and the gallstones on top (I did initially read your comment as them being actually bleeding and thought that was some sort of extra bad gallstones 😱). Hope they can work out what to do.

She's better in the fact that the migraines aren't one continuous one that lasts for 6 or 8 weeks without end. She is on Propanol to reduce the frequency as she was having 6 per week. It's now around 1 or 2 per week and she takes antiemetics and rizatriptan to control them. It tends to wipe her out and she'll sleep for a few hours when she takes the meds however. Not very convenient when you need to take an exam. It also seems worse or more frequent when she has a period or stressed by deadlines at uni.

How are you doing with them?

BeNavyCrab · 29/11/2024 19:28

@Apolloneuro

I'm thinking of you and hope they can help you recover quickly. Chronic UTIs are not fun at all. It's especially tricky for me when I get them because I'm drinking as much water as possible to dilute the urine but that has the inevitable consequence of needing to get to the loo often and quickly. Not always achievable with mobility problems. I've done the cranberry juice, the cystitis powder and antibiotics routes in the past, as I am sure you will have too. Sometimes it can be linked to urine retention or issues with the bladder lining, so I'm sure they will check you for things like that. It probably feels like it is a million miles away waiting until the middle of December. Do make sure you go for medical help sooner if you get a fever or severe back pain. My mum had it attack her kidneys after struggling with a UTI and became quite poorly. Sorry if you know all this, I just don't want anything bad to happen to you. ❤️

Here's a picture of the card I made today to cheer you up. 🤗

Oh, that quote is perfect 💕💕. You have made it through all the bad days and will keep doing so 💪💪.

butter chicken curry sounds amazing 🤩😍!

For what it’s worth with the scars, it sounds like it’s just another way for your arsehole ex to put you down. Other than empathy for whatever caused the scar, I wouldn’t have any thoughts about a scar at all. They will become your battle scars, evidence that you’ve survived him and cancer 💪💕.

i had a good but busy day making chutney for little Christmas presents (we don’t tend to do adult presents but it’s nice to give a token!).

@PeggyMitchellsCameo the idea of you being wheeled around on an office chair in pink sunglasses 🤣🤣. I don’t have issues with light but love the idea of hiding behind sunnies at the dentist 😎. You should start a trend 😁.

👋 everyone else! Hope you’re all ok and have a good Friday 💕💕

Good evening @RaspberryBeretxx . How are you this evening? All ready for the weekend?
Sorry for the very late reply, I’ve had an unexpected busy day. I had to cancel my internet with virgin as they was meant to come today but said they’ve had to delay it until 20th December so I cancelled with them and went with BT instead. Was on the phone ages but the guy couldn’t have been more helpful and I’m all sorted. It’s all getting delivered on Monday and apparently all I have to do is plug it in but I’m so bad with technology that I’m sure they’ll be a problem that I cause . Then I had my physio and occupational therapy come and then I had the building people come and fix my front door as it wouldn’t lock from the outside and then I had a surprise visit from my sister who stayed for tea.
You’re very right about the scars and I shouldn’t worry about them when other people are going through so much more I need to get over it and not let it affect me as much . I’ve come to terms with it all now and I’m ready to get whatever needs doing done and try and be strong. My mums worried this will send me on a downward spiral but I won’t let it and I’m going to show my mum that I can be strong sometimes.
Ohhhh that’s so lovely to make chutney for Christmas presents, what a lovely thoughtful gift. If somebody made me something like that I would be over the moon.
I think that @PeggyMitchellsCameo is the only one that can make going to the dentist stylish 😂. Bless her . She’s been very brave and it’s all done now thankfully xx

@PeggyMitchellsCameo I hope it goes really well! I’m with you on the fear, the mobility issues and the bright lights - I think you handled it awesomely! Hopefully today will go much, much more smoothly for you.

@Imbluedalale I am so sorry that your horrible ex has made you feel that way about your scars. They’re just part of your story, and show the battles you’ve fought. I have three scars on my left hand - a long jagged one that goes all the way up my thumb, a round one on the back, and a small one on the inner wrist, all from where I fell through a glass door as a child (maybe 7 years old?). The hospital were really bad and took the stitches out early so the ones on my thumb and back of my hand are really noticeable - you can even still see the stitch marks 30 years later!

Now I don’t gamble, but as the phrase goes I’m willing to bet that knowing that, or even seeing it, wouldn’t make you think I was less than you thought of me yesterday. You’d care what happened and be sad for the pain, but the scars would just be part of me and my story. So treat yourself as you would everyone else my lovely; you are just as precious and beautiful no matter how many scars you have or may get in the future!

Sometimes scars can even be very precious - for about 5 years I had a small white scar visible on my hand where my old dog accidentally caught it with his claw - didn’t even break the skin, but scarred. And you know what? When it faded about three years after my darling boy passed way I cried - fully cried - I didn’t want it to fade! I literally have tears in my eyes typing this. So let those scars be triumphant memories of your victories, poignant reminders of your struggle, or even part of a special memory, but never think they make you less!

I’ll get down off my soapbox now and say I hope today goes well for everyone, but especially you two!

Hi @TealPoet , how are you this evening? I hope you managed to get some rest today.
I love how you have spoke about your scars, thank you for sharing them. And your perfectly right I wouldn’t think less of you or anybody else with scars.
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog going to the other side. I’m sure he had an absolutely wonderful life with you. Sending you a big hug xx

Well I’ve just got back from the docs. The frigging uti won’t go and has morphed into another bug. Another week of antibiotics.

And it looks like I’ve got bleeding gall stones. Never mind. Worse things happen at sea, so the saying goes. Poor doc built up a sweat digging his hands into my blubbery tum tum to locate my gallbladder. 😂

edited to add bleeding as in effing hell, not that they’re actually bleeding. 🩸

Edited

Hi @Apolloneuro , first of all I’m sending you a big hug.
Im sorry that the uti won’t budge , what a nightmare you’ve been through lately and I’ve heard that having gallstones is very painful. You poor thing.
Well I heard this saying this year and it said ‘when it rains , it pours .
Just when you’ve had enough
Life gives you more
And just when you think it’s rained enough
It starts to pour
I really hope the new antibiotics start to work soon xx

Good evening @BeNavyCrab , how’s your day been? I hope you are feeling much better now than you did at beginning of week .
I do have all you spoonies this time and it has already made such a huge difference to how I feel about it all. I want to make you all proud of me and for my family to be proud of me for the first time ever so I’ve decided to be as strong and as positive as I can be for whatever happens with my cancer.
The doctors and nurses whom have looked after me have all been amazing even down to the ambulance transport . We are so lucky to have the NHS even though sometimes they get it wrong, nobody is perfect but my experience has been very positive.
I have decided to tell my daughter but in person, I’m going to be very positive about it and just tell her it’s a blip but we will get through it. And when my youngest gets back from Liverpool I’ll tell him too but I’ll wait to tell eldest until he’s had his op and he’s feeling better. Haven't heard from my two boys today but I decided against ringing them today and if I don’t hear from them tomorrow I will call them and see if they’re ok xx

Hi @Munchyseeds2 , how are you? Any plans for this weekend?
I’ve had an ok day thank you, I didn’t sleep too good last night but I managed a little hours nap this morning and I woke up to 5 missed calls from my mum and a text, missed call and voicemail from my dad. So I rang them to say I’m ok and was asleep my mum said ‘you can’t be sleeping in day when kids are there’ 😂I had to laugh she’d thought I had fell down the stairs bless her .
I love that other people think ex is a twat, his image is everything and he’d be mortified, angry and pissed off if he knew and that brings me comfort knowing he can’t dictate this time. Oh he’d be angry that I’ve now got friends and I’m getting support. He used to always say I’ll never get anyone like him again , for that I’m very thankful 🙏
Butter chicken was lovely thank you. It’s very tasty and proper winter comfort food. I will send you the recipe. It’s lovely with rice and naan but you can also put in new potatoes which it’s lovely with . And you can do it in a pan or slow cook it .
How was your soup? It sounds delicious and I’m craving it now xx
