Youthiswastedontheyoung · 14/11/2024 09:41

I'm a qualified teacher with 21 years' experience who has just started supply so flexibility with a poorly husband and three kids of my own.
Just did a full day supply (8.30-3.30) and came out with £112 net.
Hubby thinks decent wage, I think piss-take!
Opinions please!

@StickyWikkit Think about it. Yes I am angry that you referred to "Benjamin Button Syndrome."

@Labraradabrador And I repeat, so am I.

repeating what? Do we need to explain the concept of repeating now?

thismummydrinksgin · 17/11/2024 23:19

That's a good wage if you have no extra responsibilities

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:19

@Labraradabrador Yes, I repeat. Unless you can't read?

So because it's user as a nickname for an illness, then we cannot mention the film, or book?

I can see the Fonz with his skis all ready to go and look for that shark

(Edit for spelling)

Labraradabrador · 17/11/2024 23:24

Oh right, another attempt to derail from the substance of an argument you don’t seem to fully grasp

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:26

@StickyWikkit Before any mention of the film or book you referred to "Bejamin Button Syndrome" . What if I used a derogatory term about a life-limiting condition?

Done any other jobs after graduation OP? Or is teaching your only offering. Go out and discover then come back and inform us of your worth.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:30

@TheHateIsNotGood What jobs have you done? Any you'd recommend?

Yeah, dig deeper into this. This is totally relevant and on topic, and not at all a determined misrepresentation of a movie reference.

lets get to the bottom of this as a priority - fuck any consideration of the numerous well considered posts on the questionable economics of cleaning vs. Teaching.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:31

@LabraradabradorLike you would know about poorly paid jobs!!!

OP posts:
Labraradabrador · 17/11/2024 23:35

Actually, I have done my share of poorly paid jobs, thanks for asking! I also made adult choices about balancing pay vs. flexibility and understand that flexibility comes with a cost.

and before you accuse ask, I go by Ms. My own name.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:36

@Labraradabrador What do you do now? What would you class as the "poorly paid jobs" you did?

OP posts:
TheHateIsNotGood · 17/11/2024 23:43

Loads OP, after nearly 40 years of working and a degree or 2 under my belt. But then I've not started a thread about how much more valuable I am compared to 'others'. So, unless you state otherwise, we can only assume your entire experience of the working world post graduation is only as a teacher. And nothing else to compare it with.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:45

@TheHateIsNotGood Loads being...? And what do you do now?

I don't think £16 ph is acceptable tbh. 4 years at uni, degree and PGCE, 21 years of teaching.

Did you get into teaching for the money? Teaching has a reputation for being badly paid.

Labraradabrador · 17/11/2024 23:49

i now run my own business, with all the upsides and downsides that entails. I spent a number of years working 60-80 hours a week gaining experience, but now earn excellent money for fairly normal hours. I have a degree, but never expected that to just manifest into a comfortable effortless lifestyle, which seems to be your issue.

Labraradabrador · 17/11/2024 23:51

But then I am not complaining on the internet about market rate for working a job below my level of training…

Mnetcurious · 17/11/2024 23:52

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:04

@Labraradabrador I don't find it funny when someone (incorrectly) refers to my 66 yo mother as having "Benjamin Button Syndrome". See my above post.
I find it abhorrent.
I'm glad your kids are not in state school too if you, as a parent, think such terminology is acceptable.

Edited

It’s because you’ve said before that your mum is older than 65. Think it was 67 or 68? So now that someone mentioned you’re using your “elderly mother” for childcare in the holidays whilst you clean, she’s miraculously younger than you’ve previously stated. Hence the pp’s Benjamin Button comment, I assume.

HomelessAngua · 17/11/2024 23:52

OP has now found the payslip. What was the full breakdown?

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:56

@Labraradabrador How fantastic! Sounds great. Were you also privately educated the same as your children?
My son's been offered a place at Cambridge but unlikely he'll get in in reality as he's only state educated. Oh and from divorced parents so even more unlikely I'd imagine.
I'm a class teacher 3 days a week so I only work 9-3.30 on those days too so yes, a similar comfortable and effortless lifestyle(!)

OP posts:
Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 23:57

@HomelessAngua As.said earlier, £140 - £28 tax. No other deductions.

I grew up in care, actually- very much not privately educated.

With the rest i really can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not because so many of your posts are so breathlessly unironic. Either your child has a place in Cambridge or not - hooray if he has? Not a big deal if he hasn’t?

as for hours worked, I think the point is that I am happy with my wages relative to hours - you clearly are not. My wages did not come effortlessly- rather the opposite. You seem to expect to earn a good whack with minimal investment, commitment or even full time hours?
