To think this is an unacceptable wage?

I'm a qualified teacher with 21 years' experience who has just started supply so flexibility with a poorly husband and three kids of my own.
Just did a full day supply (8.30-3.30) and came out with £112 net.
Hubby thinks decent wage, I think piss-take!
Opinions please!

You appear to hate women, and in that you are not at all unique. You are also, self evidently, not a feminist.

7 hours teaching kids for £112; damned right that’s a rip off £16 an hour I wouldn’t get out of bed for that; not to try & teach a group of snotty brats regardless of age they’re still snotty brats 😂😂 could you not freelance & do 1on 1 tutoring & build up a portfolio

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 18:56

@nothingcomestonothing I dislike women that walk all over men to their own advantage, in the same way as I dislike men who walk all over women. They are many of both.
I am also disappointed in women who complain about the patriarchy but yet call themselves Mrs His Name and give their children their husband's last name too. It's just feeding the view that women are subservient.
It's a great learning point for the children in my classes, especially the girls, many of whom assume it's a "given" upon marriage. Remarkably, lots of adults also assume this too.
Hating men isn't compulsory for a feminist, nor is agreeing with all women all of the time.

@nothingcomestonothing I dislike women

I believe this part.

You feel hard done by and think you are worth more than you get paid, and you posted this thread with your pay described disingenuously low in order to elicit sympathy. Then when women noticed what you'd done and pointed it out, you resorted to misogynist insults. That's all.

@nothingcomestonothing Well I've now secured myself a part-time job as a cleaner for £18.50 p/h so I'm well happy! 👌

That's going to below your take home as supply at £16...

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:28

@HomelessAngua Easier than teaching so definitely worth it!

How many actual hours of cleaning will you be doing a day?

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:32

@cakeorwine 10 hours over two days.

@cakeorwine 10 hours over two days.

I suppose you'll get more actual days work because supply is only done during term time.

Maybe do some tutoring as well - just to maintain that teaching link.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:35

@cakeorwine I'm still class teaching 3 days. Thanks.

Cleaning is a hard job. Just saying.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:37

@IVFmumoftwo So is teaching.
But looking forward to a bit more money. There is also the option to work more hours in school holidays :)

How will it be more money?

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:39

Supply teaching is limited to just school terms - so that limits potential earnings.

Cleaning is a hard job. Just saying.

This one pays really well, and the only applicant appears to have been someone with no prior experience who they hired instantly. So I would assume it's not easy cleaning at that.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:41

@Fluufer I'm delighted you find teaching so effortless.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:41

So less money, but more hours. Righty ho.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 17/11/2024 19:43

@ItTook9Years I will be making more money. See comment re holidays. It's not that difficult to work out, surely?

the point is the hourly pay, and therefore take home, is lower. So OP will have to work longer and harder to earn the same amount. I guess there’s some sort of logic in there somewhere…….

Where will your kids be during holidays? Paid childcare?
