Something big is coming ...

Help me get a grip!

I have a horrible horrible feeling in my stomach that something big globally is about to kick off. I can't shake the feeling.

I know it's nonsense and I don't believe in all the woo stuff. I don't really believe in premonitions etc.. but I've only had this feeling once before and that was October 6th last year, and obviously things didn't pan out too well after that.

It's really stressing me out.

Please tell me the world will be the same tomorrow as it is today, my feelings last year were just coincidence, and I should just try and ignore this weirdness!

Has anyone had a feeling like before and all has been well?

Anyone know what these feelings are about? ... the science?

Thanks

I always ask Alexa for the news in the morning
After the ' home ' ( uk) news it's ' world news' and that feels even more bleak ( and hardly mentioned on the tv news )
I know I should stop listening to all of it really

Sia8899 · 12/11/2024 12:38

Also, if you’re ill, the feeling of impending doom isn’t “something bad will happen in the world” it’s “something is seriously wrong with me, my body feels wrong and I’m going to die” so hopefully that rules that out

MyrtleStrumpet · 12/11/2024 12:44

You might be experiencing a form of conformation bias. Last year you had an impending sense of doom and the next day Hamas attacked Israel which kicked off the latest Middle Eastern war.

You may have had the feeling of doom due to a post migraine event, but this can't be verified.

Today you have the same sense of doom which may be a post migraine event, and because you felt so much doom last year and there was a terrible world event, then it's natural that you would link the two today.

If nothing had happened last year, you would not be worried about a terrifying world event. You might be worried about a bad storm, or a heart attack or a child being ill or whatever loomed large in your life last year that wasn't a terrorist attack. And this would be your fear today.

It's a coincidence and we notice coincidences more when something is on our mind, like seeing lots of pregnant women if we've just found out about our own pregnancy.

At times like this it is soothing to think, this is a coincidence. What happened before was before. This is a different day. I do recommend that you take care of yourself today and perhaps see your GP for more migraine support than you currently have. If you still feel doom tomorrow, or if you have other symptoms then ask for an urgent appointment with your GP, or call 999 or go to A&E.

Not everything we think is real. This is likely a physical reaction to your migraines other health condition. Grounding techniques such as breathing out for longer than breathing in, counting 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell and one thing you can taste can help.

Be well. Take care of yourself. This too shall pass.

@MigraineHangover The next day - October 7th, a huge and catastrophic tragedy unfolded in Israel and since then thousands upon thousands of innocent men, women and children have died at the hands of the IDF in Gaza

Don't wish to derail, but the way you have written it has the vibe of some tragic natural disaster occurred and then Israel went nuclear. Really, really odd way to write it. You were very specific with Israel’s response but completely non-specific with the initiating event. Hhhhmm

Anyway, the world will probably keep spinning come tomorrow, and the day after that, and day after.

Ps. @SoNiceToComeHomeTo are you a migraine sufferer?

Actually yes. Not the ones with hours of severe pain thank God, but visual disturbances and a stabbing pain just above my left eye.

I have had feelings like that on a number of occasions, and I always got ill shortly afterwards.

Exactly this!
There is always something going on in the world, sadly. Nothing we can do about it.

A feeling of doom, for no other apparent reason, has preceeded all my serious illness- I am talking about fevers that made me delirious type, not just the standard cold.
First time I had it, I was in school. It was a nice autumn evening, school day, I was perfectly fine. But around 7 in the evening, I had this feeling that something was coming; a strong sense of doom. I could not study; I tried to read, nothing either. I could not focus on anything, but I did not feel unwell. Something like exhausted. I went to bed that night and, well, I did not make it out till a week and a half later. With other two weeks of sequels. The culprit: flu, most likely one of the H1 variants.
The immune and nervous systems are connected indeed.
I also had this feeling the first time I had covid.
I can recognise it now.
Just when my immune system is preparing for a major battle.

I think you need to focus on yourself and your health. This feeling is likely connected to your headache. You should be going to the doctor or resting with a cup of hot drink, instead of worrying about the world.

Sorry, I'll reframe:

On 0ctober 7th, Hamas launched a horrendous and unforgivable attack on Israel killing vast numbers of innocent civilians. Following that, Israel's government and the IDF unleashed hell on Gaza and slaughtered thousands of innocent men, woman and children, and they continue to rain down death and destruction on innocent Palestinians daily...

(this conflict is relatively personal to me and something I've felt passionate about for many years before Oct 7th. Sorry if I'm coming across a bit bias on one side or the other. It's because I am a bit bias for various reasons. But I don't really want to derail the thread so hopefully my reframe and acknowledgement of bias is ok for now).

Isn't this called impending doom? Maybe it's your health ? Usually that's what it's linked to isn't ?

As you can tell from the fact I'm scrolling mumsnet and not working very hard today, I am indeed struggling to focus today!

I will try and rest up, drink some healthy fruit juice and lemon drinks etc.. and hope I'm not getting something serious 🤞

This is so weird, I had this awful feeling the other day that I wanted to go and hide away as something awful was going to happen ! Maybe it’s just the constant news of war and global warming .

I’m on a news blackout at the moment. I might never know what this thing is you’re predicting.

JWKD · 12/11/2024 13:13

Migraines cause me to feel dread.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/11/2024 13:27

I also get a feeling of doom when I have migraines. It lasts the rest of the day after the other symptoms have passed (apart from fatigue) and then it's gone after a good sleep.

My advice now is to step away from Dr Google (never a helpful thing), enjoy your chocolate, and try not to worry. Make sure you get a good sleep tonight.

Feel better soon. Flowers

PumpkinPurple · 12/11/2024 13:30

I'm sure if you picked any day in the last five years to have been worried that something bad was going to happen and then look back to see what happened in the following week, there would have been something bad happened, whether that be a terrible flood, a major shipping disaster, terrorist activity, an earhquake or something else. You would link it to your thoughts, but in reality, something bad happens every day somewhere i the world. It is not linked to your thoughts.

Earth is always at risk in one form or another from dimensional breaches to time travelers, etc various number of different schemes

ItGhoul · 12/11/2024 13:42

Anyone know what these feelings are about? ... the science?

There is no 'science' to this other than basic brain chemistry. You're not having a premonition. You're just fed-up and anxious. That's a normal thing.

GreetingsfromBotswana · 12/11/2024 13:55

Can you advise if this monumental event will occur GMT or EST? Do I need to worry about it first thing tomorrow morning or will it wait until the US come online?

custardcreme77 · 12/11/2024 13:58

There’s so much doom and gloom fed to us on a daily - nay - hourly basis by the MSM, it’s no wonder it can be overwhelming.

Sometimes, it’s best to disengage, even if for a short time.

Something big is coming ...
