To wonder if obesity is unattractive to most men?

Since I've put on weight I barely get any attention from men. It's so unattractive isn't it? I'm feeling like I'll be single forever.

Does anyone have any experience of successfully meeting a significant other and being overweight?

You’ve answered your own question.

losing weight if your too big is a good idea all round.

Garlicpest · 12/11/2024 02:57

You're so right. I mean, who'd give these women a second look?

I've been fat all my life and mostly unpopular and unattractive to most people nevermind men. Teased by my siblings and parents all my life.

In error I married a man who said clearly to me that I was too fat but for some reason he didn't have the balls to walk away. Just kept me in the marriage and letched over skinny young women wherever we went. I've gone up three sizes since getting married and divorced. Honestly I couldn't give a shit how I look to men.

Garlicpest · 12/11/2024 03:29

That's horrible, @Thatsmefatty (terrible username!) You deserve compliments, whatever size you are. Start with yourself.

Final album for now: Big women should cover up and look sorry for existing; they definitely can't wear bodycon (all dresses Pretty Little Thing)

Btw, @Thatsmefatty, I mistakenly married a man who kept telling me I was fat, too. I'm 5'7", had a 24-inch waist and was anorexic. These weaselly bullies don't actually care what the facts are. They just pick on something they know they can hurt you with.

I'm serious about complimenting yourself. Keep doing it, always find something lovely about you and tell yourself, like you would for an insecure friend. Works wonders!

Never talk to, or about yourself, worse than you'd treat your friends.

Some people will find you attractive. Some people won’t. That’s just dating. People are allowed preferences. Some women won’t date short men, or bald men, or men with small cocks. That’s fine. It’s also fine for some men not to want to date fat women, or women with small boobs, or women taller than them.

This.

Princessfluffy · 12/11/2024 06:28

59% of women in the UK are overweight and 69% of men are overweight so a lot of people aren't getting their preferences met presumably.

I think the poster was joking. I strongly suspect it was an exaggeration to make a point, but you and a couple of other posters took their comment seriously.

Anyway, OP. My friend is obese, beautiful and married to a male model who worships her.

I didnt take it seriously, it was obvious it was a shit joke. But it was just a pointless stupid comment, when the OP has asked a relevant question.

Nothatgingerpirate · 12/11/2024 07:29

Yes.
That said, I no longer care about men, but definitely.

Fizzywizzywoowoo · 12/11/2024 07:33

I've seen loads of overweight women with men , I've no idea if they were like that when they first met . My NDN is overweight but she's never been short of a boyfriend. A lot of men are overweight too .

On some of these dating shows such as MAFS and Love Triangle the disappointment and entitlement when paired with women amazes me especially because these men are average looking and overweight too .

Fizzywizzywoowoo · 12/11/2024 07:39

JMSA · 12/11/2024 00:42

The vast majority of men prefer slim women.

But most women in the uk are average size 16 . There are a lot of overweight men about too . I guess preferring slim women and actually getting one are two different things .

Menowhatdoyoucallit · 12/11/2024 07:44

I attract more men when I'm larger, but I'm an hour glass figure which may help.

Pinkcountrybumpkin · 12/11/2024 07:47

Not at all. After 2 kids I’m heading towards 40 and bigger than I’ve ever been and still get attention.

RamonaRamirez · 12/11/2024 07:49

There are as many obese men as there are obese women surely, and I imagine that gym-toned men may prefer gym-toned women, and that obese men prefer obese women? People look for people like theses in that respect? So not an issue? But maybe that logic does not work? Because people are not always logical 😁

CeeJay81 · 12/11/2024 07:53

It's more about shape than weight. An overweight hour glass shape is considered very attractive to many. No matter how much I weigh though I would never have this and when i was younger, really let it get to me. So no being slim isn't always what's considered attractive. Having the right proportions though is.

LoquaciousPineapple · 12/11/2024 07:57

It depends whether you're talking "lusty glances from strangers" or "long term loving relationship". If men are looking at a woman purely as a visual object, I don't think fat looks good to them, no. But then I'd say that's true for women too. No one of either gender wants a pin up poster of an obese person or for their Hollywood idols to be obese, but in reality most people are happy to get in relationships with someone whose body is well below the standards they'd have for a purely visual sex object.

I'm obese and no one eyes me up in the street. I don't get the "pretty privilege" that slimmer people do. But I have had many partners despite being overweight my adult life. I now have a husband who loves me and as far as I can tell finds me attractive. I don't know if he just loves my other qualities enough to overlook the weight or if he genuinely doesn't mind it or does like it. But ultimately he loves me and he gives every impression of finding me attractive, which is what matters.

Beanscene · 12/11/2024 08:00

When women say they get attention from men, how does that attention look? And what do they mean.??? Is it being approached? Leered at? As a 40 something year old woman who is petite/thin I've honestly never been approached or looked at by men. I genuinely find it weird that all these women have xoerienced this and I've literally never ever had this. I would say am mostly confident, take pride in my appearance. Been told (very) occasionally by friends and DH that I look 'nice' when I get dressed up.

YaB · 12/11/2024 08:58

The clue is in the title. Obese. We’re not talking about a few pounds. Obese is more than being overweight and as much as people argue you can be healthy and obese, the statistics say that obesity causes so many health problems.

I would agree that obesity is unattractive to most men.

I don't think men will find obese women physically attractive. That said people tend to couple with people similarly attractive so will look for other qualities in a partner.

Obese can be anything from 1.5-2stone overweight. I was classed as obese at 11.5stone (I am short though). Other people who are obese may not look obese as they carry it well, but they're still technically obese.

In relation to the op's question. I work in a health related setting and I regularly see obese pregnant women (and statistics would also show this figure is rising) so there must be many men who do find it attractive, or are just not bothered by it.

I guess it depends what they (men) look like themselves. We generally end up with people of a similar attractiveness to ourselves.

If someone is pregnant I would assume they’ve been together a good while, years even so I think that is different. They could have been slim but then ended up obese but their DP loves them at that point as we need more than initial attraction to maintain a relationship.

stevienicksismyfairygodmother · 12/11/2024 10:32

It's personal preferences. My partner is overweight but wouldn't date a woman who is. He doesn't find overweight women attractive, regardless of personality, I've questioned him and debated but it's his preference. He just doesn't find overweight women attractive. That's him.
I don't find bald men attractive. So I understand. Luckily I'm a size 6/8 and he has a full head of hair - both 53

I'm sure your partner has some good points, but I would find his hypocrisy more unattractive than his weight!

BrickUser · 12/11/2024 11:07

The impression I get is that most men find fashion models and similar ie. the look that so many women feel pressured to try and emulate, too skinny. I think most men like a woman who has a bit more flesh on her and of course, there is a whole spectrum of shapes and sizes.
I agree with a previous post, confidence and an engaging personality can make a big difference.

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/11/2024 11:20

I think most people find healthy weight people more attractive, but attraction is about far more than just weight and there are plenty of gorgeous overweight people.
