The cynical part of me is wondering if he's been given the Children in Need challenge to raise his profile because he's not all that good as a DJ and there's been a lot of grumbling about that. Hats off to him it's a good cause and I wouldn't want to do it, but I'm baffled at him being a radio presenter.

It's quite possibly the worst week of radio I have ever heard.

Well done to him, but fucking hell does it need to be mentioned between EVERY fucking song?

Then they'll be the "highlights" next week.

I keep switching from radio 6 thinking it will be safe to put radio 2 back on because they've just finished talking to him...but no!

The last few years, I've switched from Radio 2 for the whole of the 3 weeks of CIN 9 (so that's the week before, the week of and the week after).

It's just not good radio. It is insanely repetitive and boring.

I don't listen to radio 2 but I think it is a bit unfair to say that he's only famous on the back of Peter Kay's hard work. Tbf, he was talented in Phoenix nights and at the time contributed to its ratings as he comes across as real! Ok he had an opportunity via his friend but how much nepotism happens in TV with presenters and actors etc particularly from middle class backgrounds in he past and now and no one cares!

Yeah exactly and they haven't worked together in years so he might have got a leg up from his mate but that's it. I know it's an unpopular opnion to like Paddy Mcguiness on mumsnet ,but outside of the world of mumsnet if he had no talent he would have quickly have faded back into obscurity but he hasn't

No real opinion on Paddy. He's never really been on the kinds of shows I watch, but that's not really true though is it? There are tons of pretty talentless people in the media who you have to wonder how they got there.

@Willyoujustbequiet I'd like to know where you live that's 'hundreds of miles' north of Bolton? It's only just over 100 miles from Bolton to Scotland and over 200 miles from Bolton to London so Bolton is definitely not half way between London and the top of England.

Why would he be given it for that reason? He might want the gig for that reason but I don't see why that would mean he'd necessarily get it unless he had a big favour to call in.

I'm not a particular fan but he's an experienced presenter and comedian, and has children with additional needs. Not sure why especially he wouldn't get it

This kind of thing does go on behind the scenes though. It's really not unusual. Obviously, no idea if it played any part in Paddy getting this gig (and I'm guessing not from what other posters have said) but it does happen. Media companies want to show their "talent" in the best possible light and they'll do all kinds of things and give them all kinds of gigs to make it happen.

Not a fan of children in need fundraising frenzy, but love him or hate him, I think what he has done this week is bloody amazing.

Fair play to the man.

I don't recall it being this bad in previous years, but I am taking your advice and avoiding Radio 2 this week
