The cynical part of me is wondering if he's been given the Children in Need challenge to raise his profile because he's not all that good as a DJ and there's been a lot of grumbling about that. Hats off to him it's a good cause and I wouldn't want to do it, but I'm baffled at him being a radio presenter.

Whilst I think he is a poor presenter, I don't think that is the reason.

I think they always give that CIN gig to the newbies.

I agree. I think my ' beef' with him is that Radio 2 doesn't need to compete on ratings so they should make more effort to get up and coming presenters on and give them a chance. Not people who are famous for doung something else. Having said that, Rylan is a revelation on the radio and arguably he falls into the same ' celeb given DJ gig' as Paddy.

I like him on the radio myself and good on him, it's an interesting challenge as the bike is iconic

Personally I can't stand the well paid radio presenters trying to get the public to donate to CiN, why don't they just give up some of their money and stop spending weeks going on and on about how we can donate? And all this week will revolve around this bike ride so it's Greatest Hits all week for me.

I think Paddy has an easier challenge this year.

I don't understand the obsession with chopper bikes , but it's a huge challenge and Paddy seems up for it all.

His profile is already absolutely massive. The definition of the Peter Principle, ironically given that he owes all of his fame to being Peter Kay's friend.

A radio presenter he is not but BBC are obsessed with North Westerners like him, Coxy and Kay.

Well seeing as they are now based in Salford maybe they are realising there is more to the UK than London?

He definitely does accentuate his accent, like a man playing an idiot Boltonian. But it serves him well. Must be worth a mint by now.

How incredibly unpleasant. If you listen to Radio 2 (which imagine isn't up to scratch for you) you would know that one presenter does a challenge every year. It is generally the newest presenter - it is Paddy this year. I wouldn't say Paddy is my favourite but good for him taking this challenge. Last year Vernon raised millions. I'm sure Paddy will do the same. Would you prefer those millions weren't raised?

Just for accuracy, Bolton isn't in East Lancashire, isn't in Lancashire at all (unless you count the old historic county of Lancashire). It is in Greater Manchester. Paddy the accent of many of many Boltonions but apparently not all.

If you don't like him, don't listen and don't donate. But what he is doing is hard and will bring in a lot of money from people who aren't as judgemental as you so slagging him off reflects badly on you.

I’m a northerner but now live in a fancy bit of the south. My accent wanders in and out. 3 glasses of wine - very mackem. Recently chatted with family - incomprehensible. Wednesday morning school run - not a trace of northerner

Radio 2 presenters usually the newest one do an extreme challenge every year - Owain did a drumathon, Sophie E-B a 24hr kitchen disco, they’ve done triathlons and Vern did his ultra last year.

You're never far away from a 'professional Northerner'. My BIL has made it his entire personality.

Mackems are definitely underrepresented on the telly and radio.

No one says " Ding dang doo " it whatever other shite he says.
