The cynical part of me is wondering if he's been given the Children in Need challenge to raise his profile because he's not all that good as a DJ and there's been a lot of grumbling about that. Hats off to him it's a good cause and I wouldn't want to do it, but I'm baffled at him being a radio presenter.

It's not a perspective its a geographical fact ,and im not the one trying to change the map.

I'm doing the opposite of changing the map lol. I'm simply stating a fact. On a map where I look at me, look at where he's from and look at London it's halfway.

I don't know why you can't just respect people have different opinions. I didn't correct anyone directly, I just gave my opinion of which I'm entitled to do. I couldn't care less if you disagree.

As I said you do you. I'm simply reflecting a widely held view in these parts. You don't get to tell us proper northerners where the north is 😂. Feel free to have the last word as this is getting a bit childish!

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/11/2024 17:15

That was dreadful, and I couldn't listen to it either. And people always go on about the sainted Radio God Terry. He started that auction. Chris Evans just took it over and made it even more tone deaf! Ill take boring on about a bike ride over that!

Yes exactly. That used to be the only time of the year when I actually switched off the radio.

sailingsunshine · 12/11/2024 17:28

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees I agree the Chris Evan's auctions were tone deaf and the people with the mega bucks who Chris knew had a different way of contacting the show to place a bid.
I'm not a fan of the bike ride this week but at least it's meeting the public and asking for small donations. Rob Beckett and Romesh were too busy so I don't think there were many DJ's to ask to follow in the footsteps of Vernon last year.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/11/2024 17:34

The irony was that the auctions were called 'experiences that money can't buy' when the whole point was that only if you had loads of cash could you access them.

leftfootinletfootout · 12/11/2024 18:12

Chopper bike seats are like razor blades, hope he has a cushion !!!

thingymijigi · 12/11/2024 19:02

I loved Pheonix nights but I've gone off him due to the way he treated his wife and children. I watched a documentary about them and he spoke to her like crap.. on the documentary! imagine what he was like behind closed doors.

Having a high profile, as in hosting lots of shows and being on lots of things doesn't mean that person is well liked. I probably could have worded my post better.

I'm not criticising the cause and I understand it, it's been around long enough. I contribute towards it every year.

He's hit a £million raised today. That will help a lot of small charities.

Cozylozy · 13/11/2024 22:22

Well done to him for raising so much money can’t be that unpopular

OhDearMuriel · 13/11/2024 22:28

Yanbu
His voice makes my ears bleed.

Opentooffers · 13/11/2024 22:31

Paddy donated a lot of food for the workers at his local hospital during covid. He's a considerate fella.

I am from Greater Manchester myself too. When you type it into Google. It says 'North West England on every page.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 13/11/2024 23:16

Think he's coming across as a completely genuine guy, he's been so emotional hearing the testimonies of people.
He has 3 children and an ex who are all autistic, he understands why this money is needed and I think it shows.
No matter what accent he has or if people like his radio show.. he's out there and trying

DonnaSummet · 13/11/2024 23:23

Totally agree OP.
He's a horrible prick in real life too and so sick of Radio 2 gushing over him like he's some massive legend.

Side note- glad he is raising money for charidee though...

mrlistersgelfbride · 14/11/2024 00:27

Ah he's alright is Paddy.
Nothing against him.
He's a great father and a decent presenter.
He is famous because of Peter Kay but he hasn't worked with him in years.
Some of my colleagues are Boltonian, you'd have a hard time convincing them they aren't northern.
I wish him good luck.

AlexaSetATimer · 14/11/2024 13:43

Now over £3 million. I'm enjoying the updated actually, he seems genuinely moved by all the people coming out to see him and those donating.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 14/11/2024 14:06

So am I. I think the tracking app has meant that more people can go out and cheer him on. Fair play to him, DH had a chopper when young and says it was 'bloody awful' to ride so 300 miles is crazy. I like these R2 challenges, it restores my faith in the general public (for a little while anyway!).

StrongFemaleCharacter · 14/11/2024 15:04

I thought this thread was going to be about his programme being pulled:

The BBC has decided to axe a proposed comedy series by Paddy McGuinness based on his life and recent divorce. The show, titled Paddy, was set to be a mockumentary-style comedy that would touch on the comedian's split from his wife, Christine. Concerns were raised that it might come across as 'distasteful and insensitive' to Christine, and the BBC ultimately chose not to move forward with the project.
This news might bring some relief to Christine, who reportedly found out about the project online and was understandably hurt by the idea. Paddy and Christine ended their 11-year marriage in 2022 but continue to co-parent their three children while living under the same roof for the sake of their family.

What’s he’s doing is amazing, and he seems genuinely humbled by all the support he’s getting.

However, I do think they’re plugging it a bit too much on radio 2. Every other sentence seems to be Paddy this and Paddy that. I would like to have a bit of normal radio 2.

I noticed that. I have sent Paddy 10 quid though.

It's quite possibly the worst week of radio I have ever heard.

Well done to him, but fucking hell does it need to be mentioned between EVERY fucking song?

Then they'll be the "highlights" next week.

I keep switching from radio 6 thinking it will be safe to put radio 2 back on because they've just finished talking to him...but no!

JustinThyme · 15/11/2024 12:18

I think he’s thick as mince. He’s a parody cheeky geezer that stopped be funny when he hit 30s.

I watched the series with Chris (who was lovely) and if anything he was even worse than I remembered.
