To think fish finger sandwiches should be made with toast and Bacon Sandwiches with bread?

Just idly pondering this as I make bacon sandwiches for lunch for everyone.

DH made me a fish finger sandwich the other day but with bread and it just felt wrong for some reason

Other way around. Every time.

WindsurfingDreams · 10/11/2024 12:36

No idea why I capitalised one type of sandwich and not the other...

Other way round.

Toast has no part in a fish finger sandwich. It has to be buttered white bread. That’s the law, you’re welcome.

Cornettoninja · 10/11/2024 12:37

Not sure where you’ve got that rule from, fish finger sandwiches are best with white bread imho. The poncified version my local gastro pub serves up on brioche is just miserable.

bacon and tomato sandwiches need to be toasted bread to cope with the extra moisture.

doodleschnoodle · 10/11/2024 12:37

Neither should be made with toast!

YouveGotAFastCar · 10/11/2024 12:37

No, why on earth would you want toast with fish fingers?!

or bacon; to be honest, both should be made with bread.

Sausagenbacon · 10/11/2024 12:38

In both cases, these are my rules

  1. Absolutely NO butter or margarine
  2. White sliced bread. Not sourdough, or anything artisanal.
WindsurfingDreams · 10/11/2024 12:38

😱

I think it's a texture thing for me. Fish finger sandwiches with bread feel too soggy.

I guess I will have to cancel the divorce papersGrin

You're a wrong 'un!

both need soft white bread!

pbdr · 10/11/2024 12:38

I'd be interested to try it with toast, but certainly my default would always be buttered bread for a fish finger sandwich or a bacon sandwich. Maybe you're on to something. I'm going to give it a try.

Neither should be made with toast!

This is correct.
Toast is for topping, not containing.

ThreeTescoBags · 10/11/2024 12:39

Toast is for club sandwiches only.

BaronessBomburst · 10/11/2024 12:39

I bet you hang the toilet roll with the paper behind too.

Sausagenbacon · 10/11/2024 12:40

YABU for making me crave a bacon sandwich.
The best bacon sandwiches are made by dipping the (white) bread in the bacon fat.

WhatMe123 · 10/11/2024 12:40

No, bread for fish fingers fir sure bacon can be either

WindsurfingDreams · 10/11/2024 12:40

I just balance it precariously on top of the holder Grin

Bacon sandwich made with thickly sliced white bread and real butter. Fish fingers in a buttered large crusty roll/bap with a generous dollop of mushy peas on top with salt and vinegar. You’re welcome.

TotHappy · 10/11/2024 12:42

Toast for a bacon sandwich sometimes but not very toasted and not always. My absolute favourite was when my dad used to make me a bacon sandwich for breakfast before school and then I faffed around getting ready for ages so he'd put it in the hot oven to keep warm. The bread would get slightly crisp but not really toasted. It was lush.

I quite like brown or seeded bread with bacon but fish finger sandwiches should always be on white. And with both butter and a lashing of tartare sauce.

Bonjovispjs · 10/11/2024 12:42

You couldn't be more wrong. Fish finger sandwich with bread, butter and mayonnaise and bacon sandwich with bread, butter and ketchup.

Edited

The solution to that is cooking the fingers properly, not toasting the bread.

better still leave the fingers on the 🐟 & 🐷 alone and buy fishless fingers & plant based 'bacon' 💕

Jury's out on divorce papers... depends on his coffee in bed & tea with butties talents

Ebabllisstggoffor · 10/11/2024 12:47

I’m now cooking bacon.

BlastedPimples · 10/11/2024 12:48

I've never made either with toast. I'm going to try both.
