Just idly pondering this as I make bacon sandwiches for lunch for everyone.

DH made me a fish finger sandwich the other day but with bread and it just felt wrong for some reason

Fish finger sarnies should be made with the stodgiest white bread, which is thickly spread with tons of butter. There should always be more fishfingers to bread ratio so you have a couple spare to eat afterwards and it should be smothered in tomato ketchup. A bacon sarnie should be in a lovely soft white bread Bap also with tons of butter and lashings of tomato ketchup or brown sauce.

I’m afraid that fish fingers must always be on untiasted bread. I live above a student pub and they do hangover breakfasts on a Sunday and the fish fingers are on untoasted bread so it’s the law. I could do a toasted BLT but I’d rather have untoasted bread with bacon - it’s like …imagine having untoasted bread with poached egg! Just no! That’s how much toast is a no with fish fingers!

ImWearingPantaloons · 10/11/2024 12:53

No toast on either!!

notatinydancer · 10/11/2024 12:53

Both with white bread and butter.
Bacon with red or brown sauce (optional)
Fish fingers with tartare sauce.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/11/2024 12:54

No, no and thrice no!
Thick, rubbery white bread, butter and ketchup.

Neither should be made with toast!

Completely agree! Op, you're mad as a Bix of frogs for suggesting either should be made with toast. Firstly, it's too dry. But with the fish finger sandwich in particular, the best part is the difference in textures - biting into soft, white bread and finding a wonderful crispy crunch. Yum. 😋

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/11/2024 12:56

Bacon can either be toast or bread but if toast Brie and Chutney included

Fish Fingers always bread, butter and mayo

Tuna Melt always toast

SoupDragon · 10/11/2024 12:59

No sandwich should be made with toast.

A toasted sandwich is obviously acceptable but not a sandwich made with toast.

muddyford · 10/11/2024 13:01

Ketchup! Rushes for sick bag. Vinegar or tartare sauce on the fish fingers on white bread, brown sauce on the bacon. Ketchup is just an abomination . Like vinegar on chips!

TwoCreamEggs · 10/11/2024 13:02

You are being very unreasonable OP - fish fingers sandwiches should be made with white bread, buttered and with mayonnaise added - that is indeed the law.

Vinegar on fish fingers. Just, why? All that care and attention to get them to the perfect degree of crispiness then basically pour sour water on them. Eeew 😁
Brown sauce on crispy bacon. Hmmm, maybe. Fruity, definitely.

TriceratopsRocks · 10/11/2024 13:07

I'm sort of with you OP. When I make fish finger sandwiches I toast the inside of the bread only, to give it that slight crispy texture, but leave the outside untoasted. I have these with lettuce and a bit of mayo.

Bacon sandwiches always on bread, never toast, ideally with mushrooms and a bit of tomato ketchup. Yum!

Sudename · 10/11/2024 13:10

Soft white sliced pan with butter for both!

Coconutter24 · 10/11/2024 13:12

Fish finger sandwich, white bread, butter and tomato sauce and bacon sandwich I do like toasted, butter and tomato sauce

WindsurfingDreams · 10/11/2024 12:38

😱

I think it's a texture thing for me. Fish finger sandwiches with bread feel too soggy.

I guess I will have to cancel the divorce papersGrin

Edited

I know this is going to make me sound like a knob but I like fishfingers with toasted focaccia!! If no focaccia then crappy white bread NOT toasted!!

AnotherDayAnotherOutfit · 10/11/2024 13:29

The ONLY acceptable reason to ever toast the bread on a sandwich (bacon, fish finger or any other filling) is if your bread is so far past fresh that it's lost all softness and would make an utterly miserable holding device for the filling.

And even then you should probably use that past-it's-best bread to make a cheese toastie or have beans on toast rather than spoil a good fish finger sarnie.

ginasevern · 10/11/2024 14:01

Both should be made with doorstep white bread. Not brown, not brioche, not sourdough and definitely not toast.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/11/2024 14:04

Toast is the default for a bacon sandwich in our house.Wouldnt have it with fish fingers though.

Dontcallmescarface · 10/11/2024 14:21

Bacon should be in the bin and fish fingers should be in thick, white untoasted bread.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2024 14:31

Cornettoninja · 10/11/2024 12:37

Not sure where you’ve got that rule from, fish finger sandwiches are best with white bread imho. The poncified version my local gastro pub serves up on brioche is just miserable.

bacon and tomato sandwiches need to be toasted bread to cope with the extra moisture.

Brioche with fish fingers?? 😱. Whoever deemed that a good idea should be strung up by his entrails from the nearest lamppost. Or hers.

unsync · 10/11/2024 14:55

I must confess I've never had a FF sandwich. However, I am partial to a bacon sarnie. I like it on thick cut, white bread, buttered or, if I can be bothered, the inside of the slice to be fried with the bacon. Then obvs lots of crispy bacon and ketchup, bit of strong cheddar and a fried egg. Sadly, this is no longer a common occurrence since it takes up an entire day's calorie intake.

Coffeeloverme · 10/11/2024 14:56

I prefer both with bread.

CrushOnEminem · 10/11/2024 15:00

I've never eaten a fish finger sandwich. They don't appeal at all to me. But I've never been a fan of fish fingers even as a a kid. My mother didn't like them so never bought them or cooked them so I didn't acquire a taste for them.

I like irish smoked bacon medallions, grilled till nicely golden & then make into a sandwich with fresh white sliced pan & real butter.

I like toasted white bread if I'm making a BLT though! That would be all wrong with just bread.

ilovepixie · 10/11/2024 15:00

Fish finger sandwich always buttered white bread.
Bacon sandwich can be toast or bread. Or if you're feeling fancy a bap!

Floralnomad · 10/11/2024 15:02

Fish fingers - soft bread and mayo
bacon - toasted or untoasted it doesn’t matter .
