Have you found any yet?

Sounds like staying home with a "staycation" is the only option. Oh wait, does the UK respect women? hhhhmmmmmmmm....

I understand people not wanting to visit here. I feel the same way about 90% of Europe.

Maybe, unreasonable, but feels very unsafe. Very unwelcoming, very divided.

Not a country I want to spend time in.

More so than the UK?
I don't think so.

Truthy · 06/11/2024 08:22

Are you joking?
It's a good reason to visit now.

If you are woman of reproductive age you are right not to go.

Why? What danger will OP be in by going?! [Confused]

What about all the pregnant women who gets sick/injured during pregnancy and are refused care because they happen to live in a state that has made abortions illegal and the doctors are too scared to help them? It's diabolical that anyone would want pregnant women to not get emergency care when they need it.

Didn’t this just happen under Bidens administration?

They can also move states.

I would not support the US at this point - and that includes not giving them my cash in anyway

Edingril · 06/11/2024 08:23

Gently I don't think they care

Exactly. It’s hardly going to affect anyone going on a 2 week holiday to the states.

JudyKing · 06/11/2024 08:23

Don’t be ridiculous. Donald Trump doesn’t give a shit whether you come to America, whilst you on the other hand will miss out on loads of amazing holidays.

You do you though 🙄

aCatCalledFawkes · 06/11/2024 08:24

I have been to the states a few times and have never felt much reason to return. Less so with the way the abortion laws went and now probably not at all with Trump in power again unless work ask me to go but I think that that is unlikely as most of my work is in the North East.

It's good news for women, now that we will have the definition and safeguarding back.

World war was on the cards regardless, it's bad news for Europe as Putin will push pass Ukraine.

I absolutely cannot bear that anyone would say that this is good news for women. He is a misogynistic rapist. I'm gender critical but for fuck sake just because one of his policies happens to do the right thing, does not mean he is a good thing for women.

MidnightPatrol · 06/11/2024 08:24

I’m no fan of Trump but this is q ridiculous

wowzelcat · 06/11/2024 08:24

I’m an American ex-pat and not going back. YANBU

BookishType · 06/11/2024 08:25

That’s your prerogative. I’m disappointed he’s back in but it won’t stop us going to the USA.

VanillaImpulse · 06/11/2024 08:25

I'd say America has got worse since Trump has not been in power. Massive homelessness everywhere. San Francisco pretty much a no go area. Shops constantly looted. Venice beach now a mess. So I haven't been the last few years as it's gone downhill rapidly. Hopefully there will now be a change which is clearly what the Americans want too

midgetastic · 06/11/2024 08:25

Definition of woman as "inferiour sub human who must be kept in line and pregnant "

And you are happy ?

No we don't have a definition of woman back , we have an historic vile definition that women have spent centuries trying to overcome

Exactly like Poland and Malta then. A woman in Poland died fairly recently for the same reason.

The US has the same abortion policy as the EU - it’s up to member states to decide.

Not going to France because abortion is illegal in Poland is daft, same way not going to New York for the same reason is daft.

Pickled21 · 06/11/2024 08:27

It's ok to choose not to visit a country if the overall ethics, rules and laws you fundamentally disagree with. Many people on mumsnet say that about Duabi so I don't see an issue with you feeling that way about the US. They have lots of tourists that feel differently so are unlikely to be phased by this.

I don't like the "definition" of woman to be "walking incubator" and unwilling "sperm receptacle" anymore than "a woman is whatever someone says it is".

Looking at the above, they don't seem all that different. They are just worded differently.

Yup, it's "great" news for women. /s

StormingNorman · 06/11/2024 08:28

when is your holiday? He’s not actually going to become the president for months yet.

Why would you feel unsafe compared to if a democrat was president? Trumps going to increase funding for law enforcement.

houseselling101 · 06/11/2024 08:29

If you holiday based on politically and democratically elected leaders I wouldn't bother leaving your house

Got back from New York 2 days ago. Didn't feel the least bit unsafe as opposed to other times I've been there. The bothersome thing was the legalisation of cannabis more than anything. The stench was repulsive, rather like Trump.

Didimum · 06/11/2024 08:30

It’s a bit arbitrary to suddenly have this stance now. This is the America it’s been for the last 10yrs, with each candidate gaining control of office by a hairline percentage each time.
