Given that Trump is elected.

OP posts:

I feel I need to vote with my feet. For example I wouldn't spend my money in Dubai and now I'm starting to feel the same about America.

DurhamDurham · 06/11/2024 07:56

Well I mean it's such a huge country that it's hard to generalise. It wouldn't stop me going, although I wouldn't be particularly drawn to the Republican states.

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 06/11/2024 07:56

What do you think will happen if you go?

SockWool · 06/11/2024 07:56

Well that's up to you but it's a gesture that literally nobody will care about. |Also I'm not quite sure what you expect will happen to you.

It's good news for women, now that we will have the definition and safeguarding back.

World war was on the cards regardless, it's bad news for Europe as Putin will push pass Ukraine.

Good news for women that the US has elected a rapist as president?

Good news that American women will not have a constitutional right to make decisions over their own bodies?

Jeez, I'm as gender critical as they come but I will never understand how incredibly blinkered some people are with regard to this issue. Mind boggling.

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/11/2024 07:57

I'm off there next week for work. I can't see any reason for cancelling the visit.

Mirrorxxx · 06/11/2024 07:58

If you are woman of reproductive age you are right not to go.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 06/11/2024 07:58

Good news for women!🤦‍♀️ are you joking!!!!!

ZippyDoodle · 06/11/2024 07:59

Might just give it a miss for four years.

I have no interest in going to Dubai or Saudi. Dreadful countries.

Werecat · 06/11/2024 08:00

Oh for heavens sake, stop being silly. Life will continue, pretty calmly actually. The USA will continue to be fine to visit. Stop with the overreacting.

It isn't good news for any women who could miscarry, have an ectopic pregnancy, late loss etc. Then there's children who are subject to incest and rape, who would be forced to give birth. This all has a knock on effect to the aid given to Africa, because Trump stopped contraceptive/care in pregnancy aid.
My DD was in the USA last year, travelling between states, some of her friends relatives have even come out of the Church because they feel it's no longer Christian. They were Pastors, from a long line of Pastors. Many are starting their own charities. There a lot of worrying changes in many states. I've never wanted to visit, so I can't comment on that.

Hillary17 · 06/11/2024 08:01

Honestly same. We’ve spent weeks planning a trip for next spring and absolutely won’t be going. It’s upsetting because it’s something we’ve always wanted to do, but I just can’t support it at the moment.

LunaNorth · 06/11/2024 08:01

I wouldn’t want to go, either, OP.

It’s joined my personal shitlist, along with Dubai and Saudi.

I’m sure it’s devastated, like.

SherbetSweeties · 06/11/2024 08:03

You do you as they say. What do you think is gonna happen?

PauliesWalnuts · 06/11/2024 08:04

Not unreasonable. I was planning on using it as my last stop on a round the world trip next year but will spend more time in South and Central America and go home from there.

Startingagainandagain · 06/11/2024 08:05

Why?

Many people and states did not vote for him.

Nothing will affect you negatively as a tourist anyway...

I just feel incredibly sad for a the decent people in that country who did not vote for him. I really don't want their businesses affected if they run something that benefits from tourism.

I am sure you would have not found it fair if the world had black-listed the UK after Brexit...

Wincher · 06/11/2024 08:06

Yes, we were talking about a trip to the US next year but were waiting for today to decide for sure. I don't want to spend my tourist dollars there now - will go elsewhere.

Berlinlover · 06/11/2024 08:06

Absolutely insane. I’m Irish, it doesn’t mean I don’t pop over to London for a weekend because the UK voted for Brexit.

OutbackQueen · 06/11/2024 08:07

I wouldn’t want to go either. It’s a visceral feeling.

Frowningprovidence · 06/11/2024 08:08

Will the abortion bans spread? Or have the states that have banned it, banned it now.

Youre not unreasonable to not go anywhere.

I avoid China and Dubai as two examples. And when I had a stopover in Saudi Arabia once I refused to spend any money at the airport.

ImpressionSunrise · 06/11/2024 08:10

A bit dramatic. A holiday won’t feel any different regardless of who is president. Do what you like, no one will care whether you do or not, but if you don’t go, you will be letting a man that you don’t like impact your life more than he has to.

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/11/2024 08:10

Well I wouldn't have gone in the first place, same way I wouldn't go to Dubai on holiday. I prefer to visit countries that respect their Women.

Not every woman wants to have an abortion but why on earth shouldn't every woman have free choice?
