Given that Trump is elected.

OP posts:
Cynic17 · 06/11/2024 08:49

You may not like the result, OP, but I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference to you as a tourist.

Given that Trump is elected.

I've said for several years now I wouldn't go back to the States (yes, yes, I know that it's no skin off their nose), but now I would be urging every female non-Trump voter to leave America, particularly if in their fertile years
It's going to be the Handmaiden's Tale IRL
As for those women who voted for him.... beyond contempt

I wouldn't go if I was pregnant to be honest.

What an utterly bizarre thing to say.

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/11/2024 08:52

@Valeriekat Probably the same as parts of the UK, but with added guns & recklessness.

It was the supreme court that overturned the previous 1973 law abortions being legal and the states that now don't allow abortions are conservative voting states.

And what do you mean they can move states? Should all pregnant women move to a different state in case they get sick or injured during pregnancy and needs healthcare?

I agree, there are a concerning number of posters who seem to think that because Roe v Wade was overturned during a Democratic term of office, that it was somehow a governmental decision. And there are also laws being enacted in some states to prevent women travelling out of state to have an abortion. Several women have also died after being refused adequate post miscarriage care, and a number were jailed after being accused of aborting their pregnancies, until it was established that they had miscarried. Doctors are literally in fear of losing their licences and going to jail for giving pregnancy related healthcare. It’s unthinkable that this could happen in a country considered to lead the free world.

We won’t be going now, don’t want to give the us economy a penny more than I have to. Tbh the gun laws put me off anyway regardless of who’s in power.

I'm sure the country will be plunged into financial ruin Hmm
Honestly, what ridiculous over reactions on here. Some of you need to grow up.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 06/11/2024 08:53

Chipsahoy · 06/11/2024 08:21

Totally weird. Our family are there. We will still go. As with brexit, in general day to day life won’t change. People are still people. The same people as before the election. Some of our extended family will have voted for trumps party too. They are not crazy, just similar to those who voted brexit and won over by arguments.

I agree it’s quite a weird response. I visited under Obama, Trump and Biden previously - from a day to day perspective as a visitor you wouldn’t know the difference, and as a visitor its a bit obnoxious to look down on the locals on their voting choices.

Klippityklopp · 06/11/2024 08:54

If you don't feel safe going YANBU but I would have thought there would be more risk of trouble if he hadn't won, as was the case last time.
If you don't want to go just to make a stand that is entirely your choice too but it would be interesting to find out what your actual concerns are

Boomer55 · 06/11/2024 08:55

I don’t suppose you cancelling your holiday will affect anyone over there. They won’t care.🙄

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/11/2024 08:55

@ImpressionSunrise Spend a lot of time in Scandinavia. Even married one of them.

Do you only visit countries that you approve of Politically? Or is this just Virtue Signalling Twattery?

😂😂 Could it be the latter perhaps?

Some of these posts are wild. You want them all to leave their home? Where do you think they should/could all move to? Would they go alone or take their families with them? What about work, schools, other family and friends?

dottiehens · 06/11/2024 08:57

You do you but this is not an airport to announce your travel plans.

No, the need to abort means so much to some, that the suggestion is, if that's the number one priority in your life, then the sensible thing to do is move states.

Yes, it seems that electing rapists is good news...

SweetBobby · 06/11/2024 08:51

What an utterly bizarre thing to say.

Why is it bizarre ? If you’re pregnant and fall ill, or miscarry while in the USA it can potentially lead to you and your doctor going to jail, or worse, you dying due to inadequate treatment because your doctor is in fear of breaking the law. Nothing bizarre about that. It’s the reality for American women.

potatocakesinprogress · 06/11/2024 09:01

yeah I was booking a trip there, I'm going to Australia instead.

Obviously, this is not possible for many - why be so literal? However, if I lived there, I would actively be exploring ways to leave; and yes, I would uproot my family to get away from the shit-shower that will be the next 4 years (until of course, he makes himself lifetime president)

Maybe, unreasonable, but feels very unsafe. Very unwelcoming, very divided.

Not a country I want to spend time in.

Very demure, very mindful.

It's democracy, stupid. Be thankful it still works.

Deja321 · 06/11/2024 09:04

I think you're being ridiculous and need to stop watching the news. What do you think trump is going to do to you?

EarthlyNightshade · 06/11/2024 09:04

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/11/2024 07:56

Good news for women that the US has elected a rapist as president?

Good news that American women will not have a constitutional right to make decisions over their own bodies?

Jeez, I'm as gender critical as they come but I will never understand how incredibly blinkered some people are with regard to this issue. Mind boggling.

People who say stuff like the post quoted are not gender critical, they are giving a standard line that they think mumsnet might like to hear. A quick search on that poster and I haven't seen any other posts supporting women's rights, it's just a pro-Trump thing.
It's ok to be pro-Trump but a bit ridiculous to pretend it's for this reason.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 06/11/2024 09:05

@ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood - why be so literal? Because words mean things so posters are responding to what you said.

YankTank · 06/11/2024 09:05

SweetBobby · 06/11/2024 08:51

Not really. If you have a miscarriage in 1/3 of the US, doctors won’t touch you with a 10-foot pole. They send you home to bleed out, and are only legally allowed to treat you once you’re on death’s door. Women have been dying from sepsis due to miscarriages gone wrong—another woman died just last week.
