Given that Trump is elected.

Not every woman wants to have an abortion but why on earth shouldn't every woman have free choice?

They can move to a blue state and abort away to their hearts content.

Shooting Black And White GIF by Buyout Footage

I wouldn't go, not because of who the President is, but because I wouldn't feel safe there. The whole ethos of the USA gives me dangerous Wild West vibes. Also, if I fell ill, despite having good insurance, I'll have to sell my home to settle medical bills. It doesn't appeal.

Well I wouldn't have gone in the first place, same way I wouldn't go to Dubai on holiday. I prefer to visit countries that respect their Women.

Have you found any yet?

Amazonmulu · 06/11/2024 08:13

LeighaStand · 06/11/2024 07:49

Maybe, unreasonable, but feels very unsafe. Very unwelcoming, very divided.

Not a country I want to spend time in.

Totally agree. And during the campaign there was talk of mass deportations, silencing the opposition, improving gun rights, ending democracy ("you only have to vote once, and never again").

I won't be visiting the USA, same as I won't be visiting North Korea or Russia. I wouldn't feel safe.

Lovemycat2023 · 06/11/2024 08:13

I won’t go whilst he is in charge. It’s not safe for women. But then I haven’t booked a holiday there - when is yours OP?

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 06/11/2024 08:14

YABVU and a bit of a drama llama. Sorry. If you don't wamt to go, don't. But cancelling ebcsuse of an election result is stupidity.

Been to the USA alot and my most recent visit was the only one where in some cities I felt uncomfortable...under a Biden administration.

Biden has floated through the last 4 years and left a broken desperate country. Harris wasn't likely to do much better. Food prices are insane there. Fuel is crazy (for usual USA prices). Lots of homelessness. People rightly or wrongly are blaming the people who ruled their country for the last 4 years. They want the "great" America back and there's a man who's promising this.

I don't like Trump but I can see why people voted for him.

wotsitallfor · 06/11/2024 08:14

I understand, I think it's unsafe because of gun crime and if you're a reproductive age woman. You could not know you're pregnant, it'd be an ectopic and you're left to die.

Nevermind the fact they elected a president that has raped, incited the insurrection, and has multiple financial misdemeanours.

I'm happy to skip if for five years.

That doesn't answer the question.

I dont know if trump being president means other states will now ban abortion also, or whether it will just be up to each state to decide and plenty will still retain abortions.

Nevermind91 · 06/11/2024 08:14

You wouldn't catch me there anyway.

I feel sorry for the people of Ukraine.
I feel sorry for the children who will continue to be shot dead in the schools, shopping malls and places of worship.
I feel sorry for anyone with a genuine sense of right and wrong.

Nothatgingerpirate · 06/11/2024 08:15

Yes, definitely cancel.
I would, if I was you 👍

So they elected a rapist as president instead?

Nobody was forcing anyone to have an abortion. The argument was about choice.

It's good news for women, now that we will have the definition and safeguarding back.

World war was on the cards regardless, it's bad news for Europe as Putin will push pass Ukraine.

Eh?

It will be up to each state to decide.

Many will retain abortions, but more women will undoubtedly die as a result of being unable to access them.

This is an insane take, and I'm as GC as they come. Safeguarding? You mean denied access to vital healthcare, resulting in higher rates of maternal death? Sounds super safe, well done.

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 06/11/2024 07:48

Yes, I would.
Same as I would not visit Dubai

This. As a woman I can't guarantee my safety in those countries.

sprigatito · 06/11/2024 08:17

YANBU. I am always wary of visiting death penalty states and authoritarian regimes in any case, but the election of a violent rapist with despotic aspirations would tip the balance for me. It's not safe enough to qualify as a holiday destination, especially for women and girls.

Given that Trump is elected.

Go for it. The USA won’t care.

suburberphobe · 06/11/2024 08:18

I'll be there this time next month. It's not stopping me.

Anyway it's only a few days en route to somewhere else. Looking forward to some winter sunshine and heat.

It would have been like me saying I'm not going to UK cos Boris Johnson is at the helm. (Well, it was covid that would have put a stop to that anyway).

Of course there are countries I'm staying well clear of if I wanted to go - I don't - like Yemen and Russia. That's just common sense.

They can move to a blue state and abort away to their hearts content.

What about all the pregnant women who gets sick/injured during pregnancy and are refused care because they happen to live in a state that has made abortions illegal and the doctors are too scared to help them? It's diabolical that anyone would want pregnant women to not get emergency care when they need it.

Candace Fails poses for a portrait holding a picture of her late daughter, Nevaeh Crain, at her home in Vidor, Texas on October 24, 2024. Crain passed away on October 29, 2023 at 25 weeks of pregnancy due to preventable causes, including hemorrhaging,...

A pregnant teenager died after trying to get care in three visits to Texas emergency rooms

It took 20 hours and three ER visits before doctors admitted the pregnant 18-year-old to the hospital as her condition worsened. She’s one of at least two women who died under Texas’ abortion ban.

I did this during his first term. I have a holiday booked there next summer but thankfully all refundable.

Spacecrispsnack · 06/11/2024 08:19

We won’t be going now, don’t want to give the us economy a penny more than I have to. Tbh the gun laws put me off anyway regardless of who’s in power.

alexisccd · 06/11/2024 08:20

I didn't go during his last term and won't during this.

wp65 · 06/11/2024 08:20

I certainly wouldn't go if I was pregnant. Other than that, I probably wouldn't be put off (or at least not any more than I was already, by the mad gun laws).

Chipsahoy · 06/11/2024 08:21

Totally weird. Our family are there. We will still go. As with brexit, in general day to day life won’t change. People are still people. The same people as before the election. Some of our extended family will have voted for trumps party too. They are not crazy, just similar to those who voted brexit and won over by arguments.

Given that Trump is elected.

You do you. I cant think America will lose sleep over your decision, nor do I think you will base your final decision on what we think on here. I suspect you will still go, but ultimately the final decision rests with you.
