To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

1000 replies

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

I have it on good authority she was both black and a woman and therefore deserved everyone's vote and anyone who did not is a racist misogynist.

Do you know when binary gender became a cultural norm…with the Victorians. Before that with humoral medicine, gender was on a spectrum. Cross dressing was pretty common at the Jacobean Court. Women were seen as lustier than men, and orgasm was seen as essential to reproduction. There are cultural norms to gender and sexuality, and they change.

There are a few transgender people, but they are here, and children do need to know that, just like they need to know there are gay or bisexual people. It doesn’t have to be confusing or fearful. I learned about this stuff in basic biology classes. It is O level stuff.

What are inappropriate sexual orientation concepts? Ones you define?

There are a few people who present as female, as my thread explained, but they are genetically male. They may not even know they are male. So, all transgender people need to be banned from sport? Should we ban anyone from sport who has any genetic edge then?

children do need to know that, just like they need to know there are gay or bisexual people ... It is O level stuff. O level is 16. The debate is over whether it is appropriate to be teaching this stuff at school infant and primary ages. Children will find out about gay people as they are in the community, they are not developmentally ready to "learn" about it means in terms of sexual orientation when they are very young. Who should decide at what age? There is a huge body of research relating to child development going back decades, and so I think it could be a decision debated and made by professionals with relevant expertise and experience possibly. What do you think?

There are a few people who present as female, as my thread explained, but they are genetically male. They may not even know they are male. So, all transgender people need to be banned from sport? Should we ban anyone from sport who has any genetic edge then? If they don't know they are male, then I guess that makes a difference, but it is unlikely they won't know as their physique and testosterone levels will be different. And this is the point. Why do you think sport for women and men split off at a professional level in the first place? In relation to competitive edge there is a line - the differences between men and women in sport at a high level are significant. So how do you make it fair to transgender people? Possibly have an objective test re strength and testosterone etc. Though the end result may be the same at high or professional levels as the differences are likely to be very, very significant. But anyway - I said my opinion and you have stated yours, we can agree to disagree, yes?

There must be something you can point to that she has acheived?

I mean, she wasn't even elected to be the candidate, but there must be something?

I do think this reflects a general move in society towards siloing people. There is very much a situation of divide and conquer which has been going on for some time. When I was a kid, there was a real push to treat everyone the same, we’re all the same underneath so don’t treat someone differently because they’re a woman or they’re black etc. Yet we suddenly subscribed/had forced upon us this idea of “diversity” we need so many of x type of people in the media because apparently people are incapable of being inspired by or relate to someone who doesn’t look superficially like them, even if they have more important things in common. Rather than celebrating everyone’s capacity to live another we suddenly need to put ourselves in little groups where people happen to have the same pattern of attraction as them, even if that’s all, out of the many things that make up them, they have in common. We are being forced into tribes, as soon as that happens in small demographic areas there will be wars. The more there is division the less strong a nation will be. Now who could benefit from that? Why would someone want to distract us by infighting? Unfortunately the “Left” have opened their doors wildly to allow for this fragmentation and ultimately destruction of society. Most of the Left see themselves as progressive and Pat themselves on the back telling each other how they are so much more intelligent and kind. Yet even the most superficial analysis of left politics shows it’s most likely the most dangerous side of centre (all politics are more problematic the more extreme they are). Yet Left politics are wrapped up in warm fluffy blankets hiding the grenade underneath.

Mumsnet is full of women trying to fit in, to find their tribe. Warm fluffy blanket tribes are as good as any. Maybe if we stopped standing in cave staring at shadows on the wall, we wouldn’t be caught up in thinking the echoes of our own voices are those of the entire population

More educated Americans vote Democrat and less educated Americans vote for Trump. The last things that the majority of Trump voters display are intellect and comprehension skills.

We saw the same intellectual split on Brexit as well, but then we were told to just deal with it and democracy was more important. So it goes here too, I suspect.

Wasn’t there an increased number of leftish, educated middle-class women who voted for Trump this time?

Seventy one percent of White women who could vote, voted for Trump.
Black women are the Democratic party's largest voting block, with Black men second.
The Latino vote is nearly half and half.
Despite the Muslim ban that Trump put in the last time he was president, Dearborn Michigan, said to have the most Muslims per capita, voted Trump.
I think that it is now safe to say that level of education has far less to do with true voting patterns than previously assumed.
"Shy" Republicanism is obviously a phenomena that Democrat movers and shakers need to confront, because it is obvious that the Democratic assumption that it can depend on the tertiary educated vote has not come to pass.
The "superior being" narrative that Liberals and Leftists lean into whilst claiming to be for the "downtrodden" is maybe too paternalistic for many needed voter to swallow?

Seeing people in terms of identity and themes instead of needing to eat, be clothed, belong, not being "allowed" to not take on other peoples' problems that they know are too complex for even great and good to solve ...and not be made to feel bad about that, etc, etc is getting played out in a world where no politician of any stripe rarely leaves office poorer than they entered.

I am more disappointed that even one person voted for the empty vessel that is Kamala Harris. She stood for nothing, said nothing and has achieved nothing in her 4 years.

I am pleased for the US that they have Trump and all his team. They are lucky.

All this Hitler stuff is genuinely hilarious. People will believe anything.

Are the Ukrainians or Palestinians thinking they are lucky today?

America now has a convicted felon as their President - sentencing hearing is at the end of this month

it's insulated, political bubble, people like you who say the idiotic things like "I dont know anyone who voted for brexit"

thats because you are a group think moron who never looks outside of their lane.

53% of the US electorate is not rascal or misogynist. A lot of them are, but not that much.

Trump offered them hope, Harris offered them men in girls changing rooms and millions more immigrants.

Oh wait, we left...best move to France.

Livelovebehappy · 06/11/2024 11:49

And of course Labour do give a fuck about us all - tell that to the pensioners just above the bread line who’ve had their winter fuel allowance axed in favour of giving a 22% pay rise to junior doctors, still in training.

@Livelovebehappy
The conservatives have done an outstanding job on completely fucking over all public services in the name of 'austerity' for the last 14 years which poorer people depend on more.

The depriving OAPs winter fuel allowance / pay junior doctors more is such an ill thought out, reductive trope.
If we want better services, pensions, infrastructure etc. everyone (including the middle classes and especially the rich & super rich) need to pay more tax. That's what countries like Switzerland, France, Germany, Norway etc do. Their middle classes pay proportionally more tax than us.
So Labour does believe more in the re-distribution of wealth - yes

Nope, can’t think of anything.

Oh wait, there was that thing, she mumbled something about a yellow bus and the wheels went round. Not sure what she was on about but she sure did laugh (like a strangled cat)
