Personally I find them very tedious as I have a toddler.

Sigh.

I like properly organised events, but 100 random garden displays really wind me up! The noise!

All the organised displays were last night around here so it’s nice and quiet tonight.
I expect there will be a few on the fifth.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 03/11/2024 19:05

Where on earth do you live where there are '100 random, garden, firework displays' all in one night? Confused

JollyPinkFox · 03/11/2024 19:05

I love them but the impact the noise has on my animals is heartbreaking. Especially now silent fireworks are so good. They shouldn’t be sold in shops IMO, one evening with a proper display is enough

GreenWheat · 03/11/2024 19:05

Yawn.

I didn't hear a thing yesterday. Must all be this coming weekend.

It was hyperbole? Have you heard of that before?

FadedRed · 03/11/2024 19:06

What only started tonight? There has been fireworks here ever evening since Thursday, what with Diwali, Hallowe’en and early Bonfire Night.

HazelSquid · 03/11/2024 19:06

It was awful last night here.
Our poor cat was terrified.

CocoDC · 03/11/2024 19:09

Today is Hindu New Year, Thurs was Hindu Diwali, I’m sure there are non-Hindus who bought them for an early Bonfire Night celebration.

Screamingabdabz · 03/11/2024 19:10

The miserable moaning about fireworks has started already…🙄

Why?

Why the hyperbole? How is anyone supposed to know you that didn't mean 100?

So what did you mean? How many random firework displays ARE there in your immediate area?

99?

80?

75?

50?

3?

Beezknees · 03/11/2024 19:12

Every single year without fail people moan about the fireworks. It's not going to change.

ShowOfHands · 03/11/2024 19:12

We went to an organised display on Friday and somebody let off their own fireworks which went into the crowd, burning BIL and several others, including a child.

I just don't think the general public can be trusted with easy access to explosives.

I find it tedious how many people go on. Social media to complain about fireworks .

There is lots of advice on teaching your pet how to cope with the noise

BMW6 · 03/11/2024 19:13

Diwali started Thursday and there were more on Friday and last night.

Then bonfire night which goes on for bloody days lately.

You know MN

… moaning about Halloween (Trick or Treat /begging)
….moan about Fireworks (my poor cat .. that’s spent all year shitting in your garden)
…moan about Christmas (in-laws mainly)

and then a bit of a break until Easter moaning .. with a hundred “nobody made a fuss of my birthday” “my proposal wasn’t good enough” inbetween.

tulippa · 03/11/2024 19:15

They've been going since September where I live. Some on Hallowe'en. More last night and then I fully expect them to going on and off until Tuesday and beyond. I don't bother buying my own. I just look out of the window every so often.

coffeesaveslives · 03/11/2024 19:15

Started about a week ago where we are.

And how do we teach livestock and horses to cope with the noise when they can't hide inside?

How do we teach people with PTSD to cope with the banging? I've been reduced to tears today with the banging which took me right back to being hit by a car a few weeks ago. I'm certainly not the only person with PTSD who will be terrified.

Ytcsghisn · 03/11/2024 19:18

Here we go, the ‘my hamster is terrified’ brigade come out of the woodwork every year.

Good on people having a good time enjoying fireworks.

Justcallmebebes · 03/11/2024 19:21

I've bought a load to set off tomorrow night

Zanatdy · 03/11/2024 19:24

I hate them. My dog isn’t keen, but not too bad unless really close. Horrible to see an animal trembling. Besides all the poor wild animals and pets, I don’t know how people can afford to spend (waste) hundreds of pounds on fireworks. Each to their own I guess, as long as do them as close to 5th Nov as possible.

FlingThatCarrot · 03/11/2024 19:27

They've been going since Halloween around here. Doesn't bother us much. Kids have always slept fine with them- we play quiet white noise which might help soften them.

I'd recommend some noise cancelling headphones for PTSD sufferers, pretty easy to connect them to tvs/laptops etc if you just want to chill with a film.

White noise might help hoisehold pets too but I thought there were rules about near livestock/ stables?

Screamingabdabz · 03/11/2024 19:30

“my poor cat .. that’s spent all year shitting in your garden”

Yep. Pet owners don’t seem to care when the nuisance is the other way around.

suburburban · 03/11/2024 19:31

I'm sick of them and they do seem to go on beyond 11
