Personally I find them very tedious as I have a toddler.

Sigh.

I like properly organised events, but 100 random garden displays really wind me up! The noise!

I am sure I read that they being made louder and maybe it is they way streets are built where I am in the Midlands, but the sound bounces around and that is what seems to get my rescue dog so upset. I can prepare her for the organized displays, but when they are randomly in someones garden, it is hard to sort that out. We are using medication to help which seems to be making a difference but the ones earlier sounded like they were in our front room. When I lived in California you could not buy them, only go to organized displays, and I never had any trouble with my pets.

They sell fireworks to the public that were previously only available for organised displays those lovely thunderblasts that rattled your stomach as a child can now be bought by everyone it's unfair on everyone they are too loud for domestic use

You must be incredibly thick to not realise the comparisons I am making.

Why do you think guns are illegal to buy in this country?

Wasn't it because children were killed in a school shooting in Dunblane?

They aren't forcing your participation. You are being purposely offensive and disrespectful.

People are seriously injured and killed with fireworks. What is the difference exactly ?

mamajong · 03/11/2024 21:16

Personally I love fireworks and think if you live in a residential area there will always be fireworks. We go to an organised display but I don't object to private displays when safety has been considered

The numbers? The intention? People tend to buy fireworks to celebrate and gun to kill.

Even so you cannot compare buying guns to buying fireworks.
I get your point but you're not really changing any minds by making such a comparison.

I have already said I only attend organised displays and believe that only official, licenced displays should be able to hold events.

Why are you bringing pronouns into this?

People put them through letterboxes and it has killed homeowners before. So yes people do intend to cause damage to others with them as it shows in the article.

According to Google there have been no fireworks fatalities since 1997. Unless I've read it wrong, I am tired and don't really want to start doing research right now.

Regardless, you cannot compare guns and fireworks. Like I said, I see your point but it's a daft comparison.

I'm sick of them and they do seem to go on beyond 11

Me too.
Fucking bothersome, unnecessary, make me jump.
No pets, no kids.

Just sensitive to noise, I guess.

Ah okay so this wasn't classified as dead by firework in the data as she died from smoke inhalation, I see why it isn't showing on the data sheet I saw, but can also see that it should be classed as a firework fatality.

You still can't compare fireworks and guns.

Well people intend to kill with fireworks. People intend to harm other people with them. Like guns. They can be used as weapons.

LemonLymanDotCom · 03/11/2024 21:32

Only just started? Lucky you! They’ve been going off for the last week at least round my way. It’s fucking horrible. They shouldn’t be available for sale to the general public, cos an awful lot of the general public are twats.

Yes but so can many, many things. People tend to buy fireworks to celebrate something but always buy guns to cause harm.

But there is no actual purpose to fireworks. They are bad for the environment. Very dangerous. Cause people stress/harm.

There is no purpose for them.

I agree, they are pretty and a form of entertainment that don't actually have a benefit.
Still aren't the same as guns.

Find another form of entertainment which is less damaging to the local environment and wildlife and dangerous.

And yes, they can kill and people use them as weapons. So they are the same as guns.

Same. They're dangerous weapons imo. Especially in the wrong hands. People are just stupid with them.

As shown on the many threads active already. People have little respect for anyone and anything sadly except the enjoyment of themselves. Selfish.

Fireworks have been going on here since the 28th October for Diwali. There is an organised display here tonight. I think 3rd November is fine, considering Guy Fawkes' Night is the 5th November?

Our organised event is on Tuesday as that's 5th November? Surely that's the whole point🤔
