Personally I find them very tedious as I have a toddler.

Sigh.

I like properly organised events, but 100 random garden displays really wind me up! The noise!

Same. They're dangerous weapons imo. Especially in the wrong hands. People are just stupid with them.

As shown on the many threads active already. People have little respect for anyone and anything sadly except the enjoyment of themselves. Selfish.

I agree, so many selfish folk out there like my NDNs who had friends over last night talking really loudly/laughing until 2am. I couldn't get any sleep for all the noise they made, at least six adults. We were up early for a sport match with one of the DC too, which really pissed me off.

Caswallonthefox · 03/11/2024 22:18

I've heard fireworks since Halloween. Doesn't affect me or my cat, but I do wonder if neighbours have been warned.

Bellatrixpure · 03/11/2024 22:20

I find the moaning more tedious than the fireworks

You must be incredibly thick to not realise the comparisons I am making.

Why do you think guns are illegal to buy in this country?

Your comparison is utterly ridiculous. I’m not the thick one, but okay hun. You do you.

Just speaking in a language pitched to your level (fyi, my 13yo would never say hun).

As are your comparisons - I pitched my language to match. However, you actually don’t get to dictate how someone speaks to you. Just like you don’t get to tell people whether or not they can enjoy fireworks. Are you usually so controlling?

Where on earth do you live where there are '100 random, garden, firework displays' all in one night? Confused

East Sussex? 😁

sanityisamyth · 04/11/2024 06:29

@Vettrianofan some people work? And children have school on Wednesday morning? So being out at 9pm at night might be too late for them so moving to the nearest weekend is fine!

As shown on these threads, people do not care about anyone else but their own enjoyment. Whether it disrupts others, the environment, people are just selfish.

Find another form of entertainment which is less damaging to the local environment and wildlife and dangerous.

And yes, they can kill and people use them as weapons. So they are the same as guns.

They're not designed with that purpose though, guns have one purpose, to kill & maim - fireworks are not meant for that purpose

If you have a car, you can use it as a weapon, in fact, you can use lots of things as weapons.

Cars have a purpose. To transport people from A-B.

Can you please explain to me the purpose of fireworks? Like what is their point?

Entertainment

Like a TV - If I hit you round the head repeatedly, that could kill you

Entertainment

Entertainment which costs the NHS time, wastes their resources. Which could be used for somewhere else.

Entertainment which is bad for the environment and litters everywhere.

Entertainment which distresses wildlife.

Can you choose another form of entertainment which is less damaging to everyone?

People are so selfish.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 04/11/2024 10:03

Honestly, I can't understand why people with pets/ toddlers don't anticipate this more since it happens EVERY YEAR.

The weekend before Nov 5th - of course there will be fireworks. Hopefully not on all three evenings, but if there are then it's just bad luck.

Toddlers should be put down when all sorts of noises are occurring so they can cope. It's a myth to think the house has to be like the bottom of a well shaft before a child will sleep. If your child won't settle it's likely picking up on your anxiety. Explain what they are, reassure, genuinely don't get stressed and unless they have something physiological wrong with them, like glue ear, your DC will probably be fine.

What's more selfish than being happy to cause distress to animals and some humans just so you can watch some things banging in the sky? Do you think that it’s ok to cause distress to other living things so you can have ‘fun’?

Taken from a website

According to figures from NHS Digital, there were almost 2,000 occasions of people going to A&E linked to fireworks in 2018/19.

What a waste of time.

Australia has banned fireworks. Why are we any different?

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 04/11/2024 10:13

The people posting about parties when fireworks are being set off after 11pm; people are talking outside and being loud until 2am, YANBU to complain. But that is not down to the fireworks, rather the inconsiderate timing decided on by your neighbours.

If we have fireworks, I check with neighbours who have dogs and always do them by 7/8pm latest.

I've just done a quick google for an example, found this about festivals, so we should ban them too?

dogwoodalliance.org/2024/03/are-concerts-and-festivals-harmful-to-the-environment/

How is it possible for these seemingly harmless events to cause environmental damage?
Concerts have become much larger productions in recent years. With ballooning budgets and bigger expectations, the need for more comes at a cost. Beyoncé’s recent tour required over 160 vehicles to move its stage between cities. Taylor Swift uses a private jet to travel from locations. Her jet produced an estimated 8,300 tons of carbon emissions in 2022. Combined with travel from fans and staff, even getting to the event adds to climate change.

These events don’t happen without physical waste either. Coachella is one of the most famous music festival. It produces over 600 tons of solid waste. But only 20% gets recycled. For music festivals of that size, the waste can end up in wetlands. This creates hazards for wildlife. Plus, other single use materials can break down and release harmful toxins over time.

In 2023, there was a 146% increase in firework-related injuries in the UK.

These could be totally avoided if fireworks were banned.

Comparing concerts and festivals to explosives is laughable.

With concerts as well you don't get people throwing fireworks through people's letterboxes or throwing fireworks at each other, do you?

They're explosives. Comparing that to a concert is laughable.

I was talking about the effect on the environment as referred to above (wildlife etc).

Everything has a cost
