Which will lose their party's favour first?

I think Kemi Badenoch is likely to outlast Keir Starmer.

I agree.

Derogations · 02/11/2024 21:42

Keir Starmer is already unpopular I think, but then he has been leader for ages.

I think Kemi will win the next election.

Papyrophile · 02/11/2024 21:47

Another post to gee along the thread. Who rates Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves? I like Wes Streeting and I think he has some sensible ideas for the reform of the NHS. Ed Milliband is a dreamer; his brother was more pragmatic.

I hope she doesn't win the next election

Papyrophile · 02/11/2024 21:49

You can vote against her @teatoast8

Oh I definitely will

Papyrophile · 02/11/2024 21:50

Then we will cancel each other out!

kier, for sure

HeadNorth · 02/11/2024 21:53

Kemi is extreme right wing. Elections are won from the centre. Pragmatic, compromising Keir.

Nellodee · 02/11/2024 21:54

Well based on the recent longevity of the various party leaders, I think betting on labour ones to last longer than Tory is pretty safe.

Bushmillsbabe · 02/11/2024 21:55

Kier will definitely lose favour first. Its fairly easy to keep favour when in opposition and criticising from the sidelines, but much harder when you are in the 'hotseat' and have to make real life decisions rather than saying 'I would do this, I would do that'. He has already lost a lot of his popularity since coming to power I think

I doubt she will still be leader, but let's wait and see.

What do you like about her policies?

I think that Wes Streeting is the best that Labour have at the moment. Reeves makes my skin crawl and Bridget Phillipson is vile. As for Keir, I wish I could have seen him in action as a barrister because he really doesn’t give me the impression of being a great advocate. I say that as someone who hated advocacy at university and law school so became a solicitor so I wouldn’t have to do it!

Fizzadora · 02/11/2024 21:59

Wes Streeting is good. He won't last long.

Papyrophile · 02/11/2024 22:00

Someone on the last thread I was on suggested that if Kemi Badenoch remained Tory leader, Keir Starmer would be in power until 2040. I am old, and politics was slower then, but I can't think of a single political leader apart from Tony Blair who kept their political balloon in the air for more than a decade. Events derail plains, dear boy.

I wouldn't be that surprised if neither of them are the leaders for the next election.

StarDolphins · 02/11/2024 22:02

Keir won’t last long imo.

jen337 · 02/11/2024 22:10

Kemi will be lucky to last 2 years nevermind winning any elections 🤣

EasternStandard · 02/11/2024 22:12

Kemi will take the party to the GE

But then I think no matter the ratings Starmer will stay too

Papyrophile · 02/11/2024 22:13

It's a shame. I quite like Keir. But he doesn't have a big persona. I don't agree with much he says, but I would respect him more if he could acknowledge the difficulty his sole trader father's toolmaking business would have had making a living in the current world. Keir Sr might have wanted to train an apprentice as he aged to help with the heavy lifting. But now, the apprentice, who knows nothing, and can't tell up from down, is entitled to sick pay from day one.

Thatcher did 15 years as leader, 11 as prime minister.

Edward Heath did 10 years as leader, 4 as prime minister.

Harold Wilson was leader for 13 years, 8 as prime minister.

Admittedly, that was back when politics was sensible, filled with substantial big-hitters and serious people (even if you disagreed with them). Not the car crash we’ve had for the past 8 years.

iamtheblcksheep · 02/11/2024 22:17

Starmer will be gone in two years. He’s far too moderate for the nut jobs in his party.

Badenock will be PM at the next election

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/11/2024 22:17

I doubt Kemi will be leader at the next GE. She might not even be an MP at that point.
