Which will lose their party's favour first?

Heard on a podcast some Tory MP's already want rishi back, he's not leaving the country like many think so they believe he can be leader again in two years

Stranger has happened

He’ll have to take his place in the queue behind Johnson. The Tories hate election losers, they’d never entertain the return of the one who gave them the biggest defeat in their history.

I can quite easily see a scenario where they find a winnable seat for Johnson and Badenoch warms the seat for his return.

Perhaps he could stand in Richmond?

Isn't Sarah Olney the MP there ( and Zac Goldsmith previously)?

I meant the other Richmond - Sunak’s seat. I imagine there will be a vacancy very soon.

Oh I see! I thought Sunak said he was staying.

His best bet is probably getting someone like Chope to retire. The electorate there seem to be forgiving of all sorts as long as they elect a Tory.

He had to say that really. My money’s on him giving it a few months then taking off for California.

I'd be surprised if Boris wants to be leader of the opposition. Too much like hard work, not enough plaudits.

Papyrophile · 05/11/2024 13:49

I'm shuddering at the thought of Boris returning.

He'll probably resurface in the year prior to the next election.

BIossomtoes · 05/11/2024 14:18

Something tells me he won’t be back. Obviously that may be my innate optimism talking but he’s 60 now with three small children and a very lucrative post parliament “career”, ie he’s being paid a lot of money for very little effort. He’s been PM, I’m struggling to see what would be in it for him.
