Lacky301 · 31/10/2024 11:35

Dp can never get a job directly with a employer his applications are always rejected or he doesn't hear back.
We are trying to avoid agencies as his last workplace had a hire and fire system dp got settled there after been there almost 2 years but company didnt have enough work so he had to finish.

Hi OP are you writing a cover letter when applying for each job? Individualised for the job outlining his skills that are relevant as well as using his CV? I have helped my teenager apply for jobs recently and found writing a thoughtful cover letter made a huge difference to being acknowledged and asked to come for an interview.
The other thing he could do is ask his old manager if he can send him an already written reference to add to his CV with contact detials so it can be checked for being genuine.

I met him online

Was he just looking to make friends, or was he looking for an English partner? I must admit I'm very suspicious of men online to talk to women in England.

SomethingFun · 02/11/2024 20:13

How did you meet him online when you have said yourself his written English isn't great and that is after being in the country for over 2 years? How were you both able to communicate to begin with? I worry you are vulnerable and are being scammed by this man and his family/ whoever gets the £500 a month

He said his flatmate encouraged him to chat online to improve his English

He gets by enough he's just a little slow with the writing but it's adequate to get by enough

They don’t need “good” employees- you need to accept that these jobs are easy come easy go for a reason. Almost anyone physically fit enough can do them and good in this context just means showing up on time and doing what you’re told.
That’s a very low bar of good and employers won’t appreciate it, no. That’s the world he operates in.

Yeah sorry OP this isn't the sort of field where you have to fight to retain staff

purplebeansprouts · 02/11/2024 21:28

Lacky301 · 02/11/2024 15:16

Won't it show a willingness and interest

Not really. He could sign up to a proper food hygiene certificate at hos local college?

SomethingFun · 02/11/2024 22:07

But how was he able to convince you he was worth effectively sponsoring to come to the country and be supported by you through his slow and broken English? You seem fairly switched on and articulate and I see nothing at all in what you say about this man that would make him an attractive prospect to the average woman in the uk.

Have you got anyone in your real life that would help you think this relationship through clearly?

I think the more I am reading of this thread the more I am genuinely concerned about OP and her situation. Perhaps the thread should be looked into by MN? It is worrying 😟

Shoe making that's all he's ever done in his country not sure employers here in the UK will be interested in that.

My sister yes she doesn't think I should be with him however she understands why I am she likes him but thinks he isn't good for me.
I understand why people would think like her I really do. Couple of my friends think I have a good heart to do what I'm doing.

Very true I will add it onto his CV

I just had a quick look at the one education course for forklifts. It's 2.5 hours long, and really just a health and safety check re what to look out for on a machine. It does also state it is a starter to move on to acquiring a license. So he definitely won't be qualified from it, and to be fair to them, they aren't claiming he will. Did you read it properly? At least it was cheap, as it should be given it gives him basically nothing.

Where did you see that info as I didn't see that

OP posts:
Lacky301 · 03/11/2024 00:40

I guess we will have to find 400 to do the proper certified course.
I've requested refunds on those courses

OP posts:
Pinkfluffypencilcase · 03/11/2024 02:54

Or find a food bank warehouse accepting volunteers and they’ll give the course/ very for free.

I can see why he’s. Not being shortlisted as there’s too many gaps on his cv. Get some support with it.

Put that on his CV. You'd be surprised.

Wtfdude · 03/11/2024 07:07

Weren't you told this laat time too?

Did he apply to Timpson without mentioning that experience?
Is his CV genuinely nothing bar last 2 years?

That old chestnut....

Notsuchafattynow · 03/11/2024 09:07

Are you currently making up the shortfall in his income, so money is still being sent home?

Is he living with you, while not working, and you are paying for everything?

If he's not got a job in 2 weeks I'd get him to leave.

I fear you are being set up to now fund him and his family abroad.

How is he currently spending his unemployed time?

SomethingFun · 03/11/2024 10:46

Oh op so pretty much us bunch of strangers think you are being had as do your family and friends in real life. Is being in a ‘relationship’ with this individual really worth your time, money, self esteem and potentially your relationships with others if they start to distance themselves from this insanity?
