Lacky301 · 31/10/2024 11:35

Dp can never get a job directly with a employer his applications are always rejected or he doesn't hear back.
We are trying to avoid agencies as his last workplace had a hire and fire system dp got settled there after been there almost 2 years but company didnt have enough work so he had to finish.

OP has asked a question out applying direct for warehouse work. It’s a bit of a non question, and has been answered pages ago.

all of your and others “advice” is outside of the question and much of it is naive, and wrong (other posters not yours specifically)

hes been out of work for 2 weeks- all he needs is another warehouse job. What’s the big deal? He doesn’t even need to be more employable, he just needs a job the same as his old one.

The thread has derailed tbh

It only derailed because you've had so many threads about it, people remember, and nothing changes.

ilovesooty · 02/11/2024 15:08

So what's stopping him from signing up for agency work as a matter of urgency?

And, if you’re really honest with yourself, you’re frustrated that OP hasn’t jumped off her sofa and immediately embedded all your ideas.
That’s an unreasonable response from you. Of course she isn’t going to change her entire life because mumsnet told her to.

He needs to be pushing them every day then by visiting their offices every day if necessary.

I've paid for cheap courses on Reed I'm now attempting to change.
These things didn't happen before as he was earning so didn't feel the urgency. They kept telling him that despite they had taken loads of agency out that he was safe but the guys at the top had the final decision and my dp was last out despite his 2 supervisors doing everything they could to keep him.
We thought he would be secure.

Cheap courses on reed wont do anything. The educational / training need to part of a long term plan to improve his prospects. Nothing will help him instantly, he’s better off just calling the agencies every day as suggested.

Won't it show a willingness and interest

1 is customer service level 2
1 is about warehouse work moving and handling forklift trucks etc
And there is a food safety one

AquaPeer · 02/11/2024 15:18

No not really OP. If a course is quick and cheap it doesn’t show anything more than banging a few keys on a keyboard.

murasaki · 02/11/2024 15:19

A CSCS card would be useful.

Lacky301 · 02/11/2024 15:20

They are accredited

I'm not sure there are free ones, but they're useful to have so worth investing in. Dp has always paid for his.

I would something that gives a qualification that the employers want rather than a underpinning course

Makes sense, but at this point he needs a job. With the CSCS he can get agency jobs on sites as a labourer. And when you've built up your reputation as reliable with an agency, you get to the top of their list for new jobs. He can think about the rest later.

PullTheBricksDown · 02/11/2024 15:28

Would he not go for security jobs as a helpful person suggested earlier?

Long term, GCSE maths and English would get you considered for a lot more jobs.

Lacky301 · 02/11/2024 15:28

To get a forks ticket, you have to clock a set number of hours, and do a practical test, it's not just a theory test.d0es this course do that?

That's exactly what I'm bothered about as it's online only

Lacky301 · 02/11/2024 15:31

It says you can go and work as a fork lift operater

OP posts:
murasaki · 02/11/2024 15:34

Hmm, he'd have no practical experience, and it's a skill. DP does it for a living. I'll ask him later, but it doesn't sound like it's legit to me.

murasaki · 02/11/2024 15:35

Saying that, retail warehouse and construction forks are very different.
