Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

Why shouldn't men have their needs meet?

The small vibes that have been on sale for years can pleasure men or women.

A penis pump or life size dildo - don’t think there’s any need for them to be on sale at a supermarket.

Lavenderblossoms · 27/10/2024 18:08

Why is it disgusting?🤣

I mean it could be worse.

USA and their walmarts ( their version of Asda once) just casually has guns on the wall, in the same building as people's groceries.

Let's put it into perspective.

I'd rather rows of plastic cocks then something that kills someone.

I guess if I could pick I’d probably put condoms behind the pharmacy counter too, I get that people may want to buy these items it’s just that as a parent I want to choose when my kids hear about these things rather than just get exposed to them.

If condoms where behind the pharmacy kids will be to embarrassed to ask for them. Surely we want our kids to have access to safe sex

I think it's a bit grim. Sexual health products such as condoms and pregnancy tests are one thing, but "Suction Simulator" (from PP's photo)? I felt a bit queasy even looking at that, and it's definitely not something I want to explain to my kids at this stage.

What next - blow-up dolls? Handcuffs and ball gags? No thank you. What people get up to in their private lives is precisely that - private - and I dislike the creeping normalisation of private practices into the public sphere.

They'll be selling penis beakers next.

Looks like the ‘pleasure cup’ could be used for this purpose too! Win, win.

Completelyjo · 27/10/2024 17:13

I mean really what’s the difference between that and condoms?
One is for males and one is for females making it therefore so much more lewd?

Don't men use vibrators, or some men?

Condoms are contraception and protect against infection.

Vibrators are unnecessary for anyone who has a happy relationship.

ShowmetheBotox · 27/10/2024 17:54

It’s the slow creep of normalisation of sex around children.

Imagine chucking a rabbit on the conveyor belt during the weekly shop with your kids on a Saturday morning when it’s packed.

it’s unnecessary and you can get them next day delivery off Amazon .

I hope you never let your kids clap eyes on pregnant women! Wouldn’t want them to know that someone has had sex Confused

I probably wouldn’t buy a vibrator alongside my bread and milk with kids in tow, as I’m sure most customers wouldn’t, but saying it ‘normalises sex around children’ is a bit strange. Are you suggesting that they’d be using the product around their kids?

ZippyDoodle · 27/10/2024 18:11

Will add it to my long list of reasons why I don't shop in Tesco.

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 18:11

@LBFseBrom so only people in relationships can have a sex life?

InWithThePlums · 27/10/2024 18:11

Pyjamatimenow · 27/10/2024 17:18

It’s not like they’re selling dildos. You’re talking about those little bullet things. They’re not offensive objects.

They are selling dildos in my Tesco's. Bloody massive scary ones too.

Is one point of view ....

Think education and culture are most important towards promoting safe sex, but at my Tesco pharmacy is literally in the same store not really a barrier, anyone mature enough to be having sex should definitely be able to overcome this “obstacle”

That assumption is what leads to teenage pregnancies

What a strange and stupid thing to say ConfusedConfusedConfused

I’m in a very happy relationship yet I have a small arsenal of sex toys. Sometimes DP will even use them on me 😱

SerendipityJane · 27/10/2024 18:14

Quite amused at the faux horror about a shop that sells bananas,. cucumbers, courgettes and butternut squashes also happens to stock a small range of adult toys ....

vegandspice · 27/10/2024 18:14

The response to this thread has surprised me . I personally think selling sex toys in supermarket is not appropriate. I am not a prude but where do you draw the line of what is ok to sell in front of children? If young kids see Mummy buying her toy ,then it is ok for Mike nextdoor to play with a similar thing and tickle me with it when Mummy isn’t looking .
And no ,I do not think that all men are potential paedos but it was the impression I have had from MN generally. Ie kids not allowed to go for sleepovers which I personally never had a problem about when my children were younger.

I thought it looked like a pepper grinder at first glance. 😁

Honestly I wouldn't recognise one if I came across it. 😂

Overtheatlantic · 27/10/2024 18:17

This thread has reminded me of the innocent days of Brigit Jones and the “have it oeuf” scene.

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 18:18

@vegandspice but you could put that theory on many things people buy infront of their children.
Fancy knickers from Primark for example.

kittyfayne · 27/10/2024 18:18

Vibrators in Tesco!!

That's nothing - last week I saw buttplugs in Sainsburys - vibrating ones.

valentinka31 · 27/10/2024 18:18

I think it's appalling.

It will make girls and women think they should use and enjoy them.

It normalises them too much imo.

I hate to break it to you, but it is normal for some adults to enjoy anal stimulation, or ‘sticking things up their arses’ as you so eloquently put it. Sex isn’t shameful, it’s not 1950.

If you can’t cope with explaining something to your own kids, I suggest you avoid those aisles in the supermarket if you’re shopping with them.
