Actually the imdb reviews are making me laugh because they are so obviously written by you barry.

Not sure I even did a review in all fairness. Or if I did, it would have only have been one. It was a while ago now.

Thommasina · 25/10/2024 13:54

Anyway, not for me. Good luck with it.

I'm actually feeling quite sorry for you @BarryGw To be that devoid of compassion and empathy must make life difficult at times. I'm guessing you're a dentist....

CocoapuffPuff · 25/10/2024 13:57

And yes, that's MY attempt at a little dark humour, seeing as you enjoy it so much. Naturally based on Steve Martin's wonderful portrayal of a "stereotypical dentist" in Little Shop of Horrors.

I got the humour. Much appreciated! My chosen career is much worse than a dentist tho. I'm in IT, we really cause people pain lol

CocoapuffPuff · 25/10/2024 14:10

IT huh. That actually does explain a lot. Well, as I'm sure you can see, lots of people DO have compassion and empathy for Shannon Matthews and you're probably in the minority (or at least, you're one of the few who is prepared to openly declare your lack). I applaud you for your honesty whilst being simultaneously horrified that such emotional deserts walk amongst us.
Namaste.

You're not laughing at your own misfortune but that of a child's so you might want to row back on presenting yourself as some kind of stoic.

LostTheMarble · 25/10/2024 16:21

ā€˜Mumsnet Karen’s’. So women then.

Whoever made this musical are obviously some emotionally underdeveloped people. It doesn’t matter what they or we think, there’s a young woman out there whose childhood abuse and neglect is being made into a ā€˜gotcha’ joke. If they’re already this desperately defensive of what they’re doing, on some level they know it’s wrong.

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 25/10/2024 16:38

I’m laughing at the rhyme

but thanks mum 🄰🄰🄰

Never mentioned "lady brains". Despite the name Mumsnet, I assume that there is a cross section on here. So, for the record, I was in no way being sexist and was not intending to patronise. Surely, attempting to paraphrase me is more patronising?
Just saying, it's based on facts and 90% of people on here will be voicing an opinion on something they haven't seen. But that's the way of the internet these days. This morning's feature on Loose Women sums it up perfectly, each one had an opinion, and each one pointed out they hadn't seen it.
Take a gamble, watch it, if you hate it afterwards then fine. You never know, you might even smile at some of the jokes šŸ˜€

It might well be the best play produced in the last decade but the producer used to term Karen to refer to women who voice an opinion. If he had used a slur against any other group of people he would have, quite rightly, be pulled up on it. But mouthy women are fair game.

I think it is in very poor taste and completely inappropriate to be honest!

Unless you have actually suffered the trauma.

Today this happened. Shall we wait for another 15 years to wait for a musical on this. The difference between ā€œBaby Reindeerā€ and this musical is that the writer CHOSE to write his trauma.

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/10/2024 00:23

Was there such a reaction to the tv drama serial about Shannon's case? Which let's be honest here, was for entertainment, and to make lots of people money.

Maybe this isn't to your taste, I suspect it's not mine.

But if you watched that one, and thought it was fine to make that... I don't think you've got the moral grounds to object to the making of any other version.

Yes the tv drama was entertainment. Yes some people did object.
But the big difference was that it was about the betrayal of the community that supported Karen and were genuinely worried for Shannon. It was done with respect for the family, Shannon and the community.
This musical is just point and laugh at the poor northerners.
