Is this real???
Who are the utter scumbags who think child abuse is entertaining?
And more importantly, what's wrong with these people?

This is one of those hideous parallel universe moments šŸ˜ž

CocoapuffPuff · 25/10/2024 08:54

So the OP finds child abuse funny? That child is still living her life, hopefully in peace, and along come some awful people to turn the suffering she went through into an amusing money maker for themselves. And it's funny?
OP, you need some serious therapy. I'm not sure sociopathic tendencies can be cured but I'd like to think there may be help for you out there.

Well, don’t be too snobby about it because it’s sold out at four week run at the Edinburgh festival

So you're just here to create publicity?

Boobygravy · 25/10/2024 08:59

That poor girl must have permanent trauma, a fear of confined spaces and huge trust issues.
If the sick 'composers' do make any money they should give every penny to Shannon Matthews.

I suspect testing a general appetite for it before investing in any kind of run. God knows who’s actually put it on at their venue though.

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 25/10/2024 09:14

Edinburgh Fringe veteran (or indeed Karen) of many decades here.

Musical about Gwynneth Paltrow's ski incident = fucking hilarious because it's punching up.

Musical about a poor wee lassie who is trying to get on with her life and forget the horrendous, public abuse she suffered = lowest of the low because it's punching down.

Not everything that sells out in Edinburgh (and actually, did it because I don't remember it all) is 'comedy gold'.

Thommasina · 25/10/2024 09:15

They've made a film of it so I guess this is publicity. Hopefully the treatment is nicer than it sounds.

BodyKeepingScore · 25/10/2024 09:15

I can only imagine that this will cause an immense amount of pain to Shannon and her siblings, it definitely ought not to have been made in their lifetime.

Ive a fairly thick skin, and not easily offended, but making a mockery of a child being abused and held hostage is just abhorrent.

Attelina · 25/10/2024 09:17

A real person's feelings are in lives so no I don't think it's funny.

Having it all made public again could be extremely distressing for her.

Also for the other siblings.

herecomesautumn · 25/10/2024 09:28

I would have posted earlier but I couldn't stop laughing. It's so hilarious.

OP I would wonder just why you think this is funny

The whole package. The subject matter, the daily Star (do people actually read that?) and the K slur.

Awful

refreshingseahorse · 25/10/2024 09:31

This is all very Nathan Barley. Total fucking Mexico.

Jessie1259 · 25/10/2024 09:32

That poor kid (now young women). Why would anyone think making a big joke out of her abuse was ok?

Lookslikemeemaw · 25/10/2024 09:33

Wow, that would be right up there with the Michael Jackson musical for me…

yarnbarn · 25/10/2024 09:34

I'm really broad minded OP, but you are laughing at this?

Can you explain why the song titles are funny?

yarnbarn · 25/10/2024 09:35

Lookslikemeemaw · 25/10/2024 09:33

Several of these have been done over the years. They don't focus on people being abused, but his music. I think that's very different to this.

I’m not going to anything that features paedophiles …

I have a sick sense of humour but I'm not laughing at this.

Just seems incredibly immature.

This. It’s basically mocking someone’s trauma.

I'm not asking you to. I would not go either, but as a comparison a musical about someone's music and a musical about someone being abused and kidnapped by their own family, well they are not the same.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/10/2024 09:44

I think we can agree that the OP is more the target market for this thread given their oh so clever arguments on this thread and their choice of news source.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 25/10/2024 10:17

Obviously the whole thing is abhorrent. I hope she never gets to hear about it and is living a lovely life somewhere, with people who love and care about her.

But all that to one side for a moment, it sounds like a group of people who just don’t have the talent to come up with anything genuinely funny or original, so are relying on shock value instead of talent. In ten years time, they’ll all be working in overpaid media jobs, having terribly middle class dinner parties to reminisce about how outrageous they were and complaining about house prices because there’s some social housing three streets over. A tedious and predictable attempt at middle class rebellion. šŸ™„

She's now 26. Possibly starting a family of her own or getting into her stride in a workplace. Having it all brought up in the public eye could be quite distressing.

Maybe it isn't and she is ok with it but there must be some sadness associated with it as her whole family as she knew it was split up. Her siblings were taken into cat but I think may have gone to live with their respective fathers.

Just an awful thing to happen not just to Shannon but the other children as well.

There is nothing on this earth snobby about not thinking it funny that an abused and exploited child is yet being used and exploited for shit and giggles (and cash).;

I'm common as fuck with a dark sense of humour but there is a young girl at the heart of this trying to live as normal a life as possible after being severely let down by the one person whose meant to protect you no matter what. Fucking hilarious taking the piss out of an abused young woman.

Isn’t it more about taking the piss out of the moron of a mother who thought she could hoodwink the police and the community?

Do you think the children affected by her actions will see the distinction?

Exactly! Shannon Matthews is still alive and must have some deep seated trauma.

Funny how they don’t make a musical about the posh kids who’ve gone missing

PersephonePotts · 25/10/2024 11:03

TBH each to their own but I group people who find this funny in the same group who laugh at Mrs Brown’s Boys. Says it all really
