To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

As opposed to a woman who got her initial position ( by her own admission) by sexual favours to her boss. Who has never been elected to any office ( withdrew from her primary when it was obvious that she was going to get the smallest share of the vote). Who didn’t visit the border when she was supposed to be in charge of it?

we won’t mention the earpiece, though.

Is she a convicted felon too? If you are a woman and you vote for Trump, well...

Harvestfestivalknickers · 21/10/2024 17:05

You would like the Democrat candidate would be the easy front runner but why on earth did they allow Biden to run again for another 4 years then decide far too late that it wasn't a good idea? It all seems a bit of a last minute decision to put Harris forward when she really didn't seem to have a high enough profile.

What is it with Americans and their dislike of half the population, i.e. women?

It's a very macho culture; they worship violence. I read a very interesting article once where Europe was called feminine because it didn't want to go to war.

QueenOfHiraeth · 21/10/2024 17:12

I don't like Trump and wouldn't vote for him myself but have family in the USA who will. They do seem to overlook or minimise the stuff about him they don't like but a big part of the problem is that they and many among their friends say Kamala stands for nothing, gives meaningless speeches that give no clue as to what she intended to say and they fear "wokeness" if she is elected.
They are not so much voting for Trump as voting against Kamala/the Democrats

Yes, stick it to the libs

You see... I really don't get this. Trump talks about a golfer's penis size, sharks and Hannibal Lecter or holds a Rally where he sways to music for 50 whole minutes.

Suzuki70 · 21/10/2024 17:19

This is the problem. Plenty who are not racist or homophobic or pro-guns still dislike women in power enough to vote against one.

MrsSchrute · 21/10/2024 17:24

From twitter:

The real "risk" of a Trump presidency:

• Ukraine war ends
• Border Wall Built
• Mass Deportations
• Inflation Drops
• Cut Federal Employees
• DEI eliminated
• Make America Great Again

Just for total clarity, I would never vote for Trump in a million years, but I think there is more value in trying to understand why many millions of people do, rather than simply dismiss them as 'deplorable'.

MagentaRocks · 21/10/2024 17:26

I find it really hard to understand how a country that elected a black president then go on to elect Trump. It just seems so crazy that they have voted in 2 very different people and with Trump being racist amongst other things it just seems odd. It is worrying how loud and proud the Trump supporters are too. Vile man. But I think he will win.

Abhannmor · 21/10/2024 17:28

I was strangely indifferent until recently because , as a friend said, we survived him the first time.

But watching some of his incoherent ravings lately has chilled my blood. He seems filled with rage about losing in 2020. And just about everything and everyone else. Thirsting for vengeance for these imagined wrongs. Also....he seems to have outsourced his campaign to Musk. Dodgy. Hope it backfires!

Pumpkincozynights · 21/10/2024 17:28

Because most of them hate women.
Most of them hate non white people.
Most of them hate disabled people.
So that trumps ( see what I did there) everything else.
People everywhere have this mindset.
Look at the war in Gaza. The hatred for X overrides the love for Y.

BustingBaoBun · 21/10/2024 17:30

Yes... 'Ukraine war ends' by encouraging Zelenskyy to give his country away

He couldn't build the border wall in his last term because he was insisting Mexico pay for it. And half of it has fallen down anyway

Mass Deportations. Even those that were born in the US

Cut Federal employees. He wants to reclassify 2 million fed employees stripping their job protections

'Deplorables' came from Hillary Clinton not Kamala Harris

The rent that Trump owes you lot for living in your heads this long!

Keep going, this thread is hilarious 😂

You're an idiot.

Candaceowens · 21/10/2024 17:35

You are absolutely clueless. Kamala couldn't be worse if she tried.

Well yes, because he is a threat to America and the world. He needs to be talked about.

He is dangerous and frightening. Not in a 'Ooooh, he is so big and powerful and scary' but scary in the way it would be scary to be chained up in a small room with a toddler playing with a grenade.

There will be people around him to stop the worst impulses he displays.

This is just garbage. The people around Trump are his worst impulses and are around him purely because they do not stand up to him or stop him. Anyone who thinks Trumps entourage will do anything other than enable him are epically deluded.

Yes, there were people around him last time. Those people have fled this time and are saying he should definitely not be President again. Those people that might rein him in don’t seem to exist now.

Surely it's not odd to discuss a forthcoming US Election and the candidate who is so polarising?

I don't think so.

She could be a rapist?

Or be guilty of 34 felony counts?

Apparently that's OK.
