To think my friendship will need to end due to Israel/Palestine?

I've been close friends with a Jewish woman for ten years. We went on lots of trips together, lived in two different countries at the same times, been there for each other through all sorts.

Anyway since she moved I see her once or twice a year, the second time usually being Christmas. She always looks me up at Christmas and I'm anticipating the same this year.

My position is that I disagree with the October 8 attacks and also what's happening in Gaza is horrific. I've been to demonstrations about this, even bumping into two other Jewish friends at these.

I've seen my friend posting online that these demos are 'Anti Israel'. All of her posts are in support of fighting anti semitism and she has never posted about Palestine, although she works for a humanitarian organisation. AIBU to think this simply ends the friendship?

There are a lot of polarised views out there in the world at the moment, which can make things dangerous to post certain things, to be honest. I don't think that what your friend posts is at all an indication of what she feels about every single subject out there either.

I think it is wise to understand that conflicts won't end until people understand the roots of the conflicts better than they do, and also until the hatred between people stops. There are a lot of posts on this thread with misleading information - for example the post saying that palestinians are against a 2 state solution is unlikely given that most if not all Arab states support a 2 state solution, including Iran - they voted as such last year. An awful lot of people chanting "from the river to the sea" actually have no idea what that means or the connotations.

The modern conflict in Palestine started during wwI when there were conflicting promises given to Arabs in Palestine and to Jewish people about creating a homeland - see the Balfour Agreement and the Palestine Mandate - you can read them both online. With that in mind, and the decades of terrible struggles and loss of life since then, you can see that the complexity and the feelings involved. The only way to try to resolve the conflict is to properly understand the history and the conflict and to try to find a solution which is fair to both Palestinians and Jewish people. Discussion and bridging the gap, and raising awareness of political movements which will affect future decision, while trying to stay out of dangerous territory, is probably the way to go.

In relation to the 2 state solution and misleading posts I don't think what I wrote here was very clear, what I meant was "There are a lot of posts on this thread with misleading information - for example the post saying that palestinians are against a 2 state solution. It is unlikely that this is correct (who is doing polling right now in Gaza?) and what is more relevant is that all Arab states support a 2 state solution, including Iran - they voted as such last year."
