Covid and Flu jabs and feeling awful!

Did anyone else have really bad side effects this time? I am a bit better now but I was in a horrible way last night. Thought I was getting full-on flu!

how did you find the other times?

I deciding whether to just get the flu jab or tag on covid to

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/10/2024 16:10

I did too but I always get flu like symptoms from the Covid jab. Usually lasts from around 12 hours after the vaccine until around 24 hours after. Same regardless of the make of vaccine.

My daughter had side effects this time but hasn’t had it before - she had Moderna this time but Pfizer in the past. She had separate jabs whilst I had the two at once.

Auburng · 15/10/2024 16:12

It's normal that you do feel rough after the vaccines. Shows that the antibodies are working. Each year the flu vaccine has different strains and last year I passed out at work 3 days after the flu vaccine.

I do not know why many GP practices are encouraging patients to have both covid and flu vaccines together and one in each arm. I get a very stiff arm with limited mobility too. The pharmacy where I had the flu vaccine said to come back a few days time to get covid vaccine.

doodleygirl · 15/10/2024 16:12

I was ok apart from a sore arm, my mum was fine but my sister felt rubbish for 24 hrs. No idea why some people feel awful and some are fine.

candycane222 · 15/10/2024 16:16

I had a very restless night after my double jab, and felt pretty wiped out the next day - in bed by 9.30!! But was fine after that. I do usually get that sort of reaction to the covid jab anyway, not sure if the flu made it worse or not. But I have heard some people say they felt extra dreadful after having both together

candycane222 · 15/10/2024 16:17

I did have both in the same arm so there was at least one side i could lie on. That was sore for several days

Pluckpluckyplucked · 15/10/2024 16:18

I was much worse than normal this year (in bed, flu like symptomsfor 48 hours), however dc1 was much better than normal (only a slight tender arm).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/10/2024 16:20

I think it's a good sign, isn't it? Shows your immune system is kicking into action.

LorettyTen · 15/10/2024 16:25

Flu jab was fine as usual, just a sore arm.
Covid jab was something else- I felt awful. Shivery, aching, headache, nausea. I don't usually get any side effects, apart from mild ones from the first Covid jab.

traybake81 · 15/10/2024 16:26

ok so decision made

i’ll get the flu jab. but pass on the covid!

Side effects from the vaccine are the innate immune system doing its job. The adaptive immune system, which involves antibodies, comes later

That's how I felt with covid virus last year and I was ill for 5 weeks, fever so high I was hallucinating for over a week so I'll happing risk 12 hours of it after my jab!

Negangirlxx · 15/10/2024 16:33

I had both of mine at the same time, in the same arm. No side effects, just a slightly sore, bruised arm. I’d rather get them done both together, than have to fanny about going to more than one appointment.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/10/2024 16:34

I've had the flu jab this year and felt a bit ropey for a couple of days.

I'm contemplating what do about the covid one- last year I had very unpleasant side effects ( I yellow carded them) which left me feeling ill for over a week. It was a Pfizer.

It was recommended that I leave at least a fortnight between jabs, but I might swerve the covid one.

LorettyTen · 15/10/2024 16:38

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I agree, I thought if that's how bad I felt after the vaccine, I'm glad I had it and didn't risk full blown covid

Blackberriesandcobwebs · 15/10/2024 16:40

Got double jabbed on thursday and have felt rough as hell since sunday. Mind you, I did travel on the Tube thursday and friday so may have picked it up then.

DD took Dcat to vets for annual booster yesterday and I can tell even a tin of tuna afterwards does not make up for how she's feeling today. Lots of sleeping and sighing from Dcat and she's not even bothered to chase those pesky squirrels on the bird feeder!

Back to bed with Dcat ...

TianasBayou · 15/10/2024 16:45

Haven't had mine yet, because I need to find a time when I can have a day to recover.

Everyone I know who has had both jabs has reported feeling awful this year.

letshavetea · 15/10/2024 16:48

Had both jabs yesterday, one in each arm. Feel awful today. Glad I’ve had them though - better than the actually illnesses!

FuzzyPuffling · 15/10/2024 16:49

Last year the effects of the covid jab were far worse than actual covid. For me, anyway.

pasta · 15/10/2024 16:50

How did you get covid jabs? I really want one but am not entitled this year. Last year carers were allowed to have them.

I had a flu jab on Friday and have felt really ill since but tbh have been assuming that I caught covid or flu too, as it has been such a strong reaction

GinnyPiggie · 15/10/2024 16:51

I had a day in bed after the covid jab. I'm having them separately as I was worried about the double impact!

outforawalkbiatch · 15/10/2024 16:51

I've booked a day off work for mine so it doesn't matter if I feel rough the next day thankfully

Sarah2891 · 15/10/2024 16:52

My mum had her covid jab yesterday and feels awful. It's not affected her quite like this before.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 15/10/2024 16:53

I had both jabs at once and felt I was getting a cold/virus type thing. Still clinging on but the vaccine side effect seems probable.

Would rather have vaccines than getting covid or flu though I think I got Covid or someone I did got it this way, after having the vaccine.

SnapdragonToadflax · 15/10/2024 16:55

My dad and MIL (both late 70s) have had their Covid jabs in the last week and felt really rough after.
