Covid and Flu jabs and feeling awful!

Did anyone else have really bad side effects this time? I am a bit better now but I was in a horrible way last night. Thought I was getting full-on flu!

How did you get covid jabs? I really want one but am not entitled this year. Last year carers were allowed to have them.

I had a flu jab on Friday and have felt really ill since but tbh have been assuming that I caught covid or flu too, as it has been such a strong reaction

Like you I got a covid jab last year due to caring responsibilities. It wasn't available this year and I am only 64.

I had my flu jab at Boots about two weeks ago and had no after effects at all. I paid - about £12.95 I think.

I had my covid jab at a pharmacy on Saturday. It was £90 and they were very efficient. I had a slightly sore arm by Saturday night and was very very tired on Sunday. I rarely react and hadn't before.

Bearing in mind that society closed in 2020 and 2021 and we were whipped up into a frenzy with misrepresented data, I fsil to comprehend why the covid jab is being limited this year. I got it last year because my mother was 87 and there's only me. The only thing to have changed is that she's 88 and a little frailer Confused

on the basis of this thread, I have just cancelled my covid jab!

But i’ll stick with my flu jab for sure

I am sorry but who on earth would have this stuff knowing everything we know....

Wasn't the question. At least you apologised in advance.

WinnieMaudPeggy · 16/10/2024 08:29

I got mine yesterday. One in each arm. I feel awful. Fever over night, banging headache, both arms like dead weights.
Luckily it is the school holidays here so I don't have to drag myself into work.
I'm going to stay in bed and allow the tween and teen to fend for themselves.

LegoTherapy · 16/10/2024 10:16

I feel rubbish after my first Moderna but compared to when I had Covid it's a breeze. I spent last night shivering, feeling sick and had a banging headache. I woke up this morning very flushed and hot and am going back to bed now that dc are at school. The walk in the cool air helped but I'm so tired.
Astra zeneca was the worst vaccine. I was so ill for 2 days that I did a yellow card. Fever, vomiting, headache, body aches that opiates weren't touching, chills. Pfizer has been fine but nowhere seemed to have it. I started a thread this morning because search didn't show up anything similar. The search function on the app is still shite.
Hope everyone feels better soon!
No ill effects from the flu vaccine on Monday thankfully.

Wittyapple · 16/10/2024 10:26

I've always got them a couple weeks apart so that it doesn't overload my system (auto immune condition), I'm not sure if thats the recommended way to take them, but I havent had any bad symtoms except a sore arm. Glad I do now reading this thread!

Tell me then why so many adverse effects? Why blood clots and strokes in particular?

Is it safe and effective? When if there is some evidence that certain COVID-19 vaccines can increase risk factors for stroke, is is not withdrawn?

I'd rather have a few shivers and sniffles than a stroke.

Make me change my mind.

I’ll pass on your comment about “a few shivers and sniffles “ to my friend as her husband died of Covid and it definitely wasn’t a minor illness nor where the Covid patients DH treated in hospital during the pandemic!

DilemmaDelilah · 16/10/2024 10:44

@Notmoog I've had it lots of times before and have had cardiac ablation, which has nearly resolved the issue. This time it only lasted about 3/4 of an hour - if it gets to over 10 hours I ring 111 and get sent to A&E, where I wait for anything from 6 to 24 hours for it to go away. There has only been one time where I was kept in for nearly a week.

3/4 of an hour is just a tiny blip!

Update!

48 hours on and I feel SO much better today.

The first night was absolutely horrific. I literally felt like I had the flu. I know it wasn't, because it only lasted one night but Lord, it was horrible.

Yesterday I felt ok but just wiped out.

Having had Pneumonia in February, though, I would still have the jabs every time because it could be so much worse for me if I get ill.

Blackberriesandcobwebs · 16/10/2024 11:46

Having lost both a family member and a friend (far too young) to covid, despite feeling rough for 48hrs post jabs I will still get both jabs again if they're offered. Just need to be prepared. 3 people I know who were double jabbed last week felt absolutely fine apart from a sore arm.

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 16/10/2024 12:19

OnTheBoardwalk · 15/10/2024 22:13

I've had one bad reaction out of only one of many for covid. No issues this time

Got proper sore arm after the flu jab that I’ve never had before. Dr jabber told me that it's down to the size of the needle. Not sure if that’s true or not but I’m proper popeye still that size on arm days later

I was told that as well.I certainly felt it go in!

I normally just suffer a sore arm for a couple of days but this year I've felt absolutely awful.

Both DH and I had the Moderna in one arm and 'flu in the other(I'm 67,DH is 70 and technically the Vulnerable one).By Day 2 after,I couldn't raise either arm above my chest and I couldn't sleep(side sleeper) because of the discomfort from the injection sites.I tried rubbing Voltarol on both to try to alleviate the pain a little, which seemed to help, but not enough to prevent pain when pressure was applied.
DH - experienced a bit of arm discomfort and a brief temp.spike, but otherwise fine.

For me,On day 3,the injection pain eases and is replaced by the classic symptoms;lethargy, feverishness, scratchy throat, headache and a permanently runny nose-it's been like a tap.

We're now on Day 6 and I'm only just starting to feel ok again.I've just spent a week feeling as though I've been "going down with something"; getting on with things, keeping the symptoms under control with paracetamol, but all the time feeling very sub-par.

I wasn't aware that you could ask to have both in one arm;on the website it explains that you will be given one shot in each arm if you have both done at the same time.

Yesterday, while Googling all these side effects-which I have never experienced before to this extent apart from a little arm soreness -I came across a few articles pointing to research which suggests that having both 'flu and COVID jabs at the same time can increase immunity against both.I'll see if I can find the links again.

TartfulRidesAgain2 · 15/10/2024 18:44

I had covid and flu jabs this evening. Hopefully I won't be updating on this thread because I feel rough 😔

Well here I am. Aching quite a lot and had to take some paracetamol but hopefully it will only be today

Lindylil78 · 16/10/2024 16:14

I feel absolutely dreadful after having my 'flu and COVID jabs yesterday. I understand though it's a good sign, as it means one's body is learning to recognise the viruses! Deep joy!

Zippedydodah · 16/10/2024 16:43

Double vaccination at lunchtime, both in the same arm and I feel fine, not even a bit sore 🤷🏼‍♀️
Fingers crossed that it’ll stay that way!

Shallana · 16/10/2024 16:46

I had mine together and felt so dreadful that I had to call in sick the next day and spent they day in bed. Felt fine the day after. I had Moderna which is apparently the worst one for side effects.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/10/2024 17:49

I discussed my extreme reactions to vaccines with my rheumatologist, in case they were to do with my autoimmune disease, and in case there was anything I could toning mitigation, but she just dithered and said she didn't know, it was up to me, and she'd felt rotten after this year's dose.

Not helpful.

bigvig · 16/10/2024 18:15

Unless you are in a vulnerable group I don't think it makes sense to have either. Both vaccines are only against certain strains. Viruses mutate and catching a natural virus gives you longer lasting more adaptive immunity. I know we were told otherwise during lockdown but we were told lots of nonsense then.

Longleggedblond · 16/10/2024 18:28

Fine with flu one a few weeks ago. But 10 days after Covid one still feeling rough. Test was negative.

The vaccines are updated to cover the latest strain - both Covid and flu variants are reflected in the updated vaccine

Itstime2023 · 16/10/2024 18:50

I've staggered mine so if I get side effects from one I'll know which one.

As for side effects, lucky this year so far only a sore arm.

Like others have said, rather risk a few days of feeling a bit under the weather than getting full blown flu or covid.
