Covid and Flu jabs and feeling awful!

Did anyone else have really bad side effects this time? I am a bit better now but I was in a horrible way last night. Thought I was getting full-on flu!

No flu symptoms but two dead arms, Covid side has eased off, still feel like I've just been punched flu side 24 hours later.

candycane222 · 15/10/2024 16:17

I did have both in the same arm so there was at least one side i could lie on. That was sore for several days

Edited

I had mine on Saturday both in the right. It’s sore but by far the best one I’ve had

SongSungBlues · 15/10/2024 16:57

I don't qualify for a Covid jab this year, but I paid to get the flu jab. Just a sore arm, and a headache for a couple of days. Hoping it's a good match for this year's strains!

Nannyfannybanny · 15/10/2024 16:58

Had them same arm thank god,2 weeks Thursday..felt shivery and cold for 2 nights.arm was really sore for a week. First Covid jabs az made me feel rough, the last few nothing at all. Never any issues after a flu jab. Pneumo vax made me really ill and I got cellulitis on the site

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 15/10/2024 17:02

After having full on flu in 2018 which has me bedridden for 3/4 weeks and lost me my hearing in both ears - I will take a few days of feeling rough either way gratitude if it means I don't have to go through that again.

Berlinlover · 15/10/2024 17:06

I was absolutely fine after the flu jab. I was offered the Covid jab as I’m recovering from chemo but I wouldn’t dream of taking it.

I've had the flu jab this year and felt a bit ropey for a couple of days.

I'm contemplating what do about the covid one- last year I had very unpleasant side effects ( I yellow carded them) which left me feeling ill for over a week. It was a Pfizer.

It was recommended that I leave at least a fortnight between jabs, but I might swerve the covid one.

I also had a bad reaction to that vaccine (ended up in A&E with chest pain!) and was advised not to get it again. I'd speak to you GP and see what they say.

LorettyTen · 15/10/2024 16:38

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I agree, I thought if that's how bad I felt after the vaccine, I'm glad I had it and didn't risk full blown covid

I've zero Covid vaccines and I've been fine! Not sure why people set themselves up for a rough few days, and the risk of permanent damage.

BasilParsley · 15/10/2024 17:24

I had both at the same time - one in each arm (covid one was Pfizer). This was 10 days ago.
Felt a bit out of sorts generally for the next day and fine the day after
(nothing worth taking anything for and could still function).
Both arms felt a bit sore and bruised for a couple of days.

CaneToad · 15/10/2024 17:24

I feel bloody awful, but I know I am usually ok within 72 hours so I will just ride it out.

Surely you've learned why in the past 4 years. It's basic science and it's been said enough times. Maybe you can't hear through your tin foil hat?

Oldandcobwebby · 15/10/2024 17:28

Had a private COVID jab last Friday (£75 well spent, I reckon) Had a sore arm for 24 hours. Felt a bit tired (like after a cold) the day after the jab. All good, though, and a damn sight better than contracting COVID, for sure 😃

My wife had the sore arm but not the tiredness.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 15/10/2024 17:42

I had both last Wednesday, apart from an aching arm I've been absolutely fine.

Boutonnière · 15/10/2024 17:46

People react differently- I had zero reaction, as usual. DH had aching upper arm and felt a bit rough. I looked up about this ( since he keeps saying my immune system must be inadequate if I don’t react ) and it can just be that way for some 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are you just uneducated or is your tinfoil hat needing a rub?

TheYoungestSibling · 15/10/2024 18:15

I had the flu jab on Saturday and was fine but I've developed DD's head cold and now feel awful.

Husband has the cold too but didn't have the flu jab. Maybe I'm feeling worse because of it or maybe just coincidence but I shall pass on having a Covid jab this week just in case!

5foot5 · 15/10/2024 18:42

I had both together in one arm last Friday. I prefer it that way because I know it will give me a sore arm so I would rather have one sore arm and get to choose which it is!

I had Pfizer this time and did get a mild reaction, in that I felt very lethargic next day like my limbs were full of lead. It had worn off by the day after that though.

The worse reaction I have had was two years ago with Moderna when I was physically sick in the night and felt generally rubbish for a few days.

Novavax never gave me any side effects other than a sore arm..

All worth it if it helps to stop a worse illness.

TeamPolin · 15/10/2024 18:43

My colleague has had proper old school flu recently and was off sick for almost 3 weeks. I'll take a dead arm and a mild headache to avoid getting proper flu.

TartfulRidesAgain2 · 15/10/2024 18:44

I had covid and flu jabs this evening. Hopefully I won't be updating on this thread because I feel rough 😔

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 15/10/2024 18:44

I had both today before work and feel like death. Contemplating taking tomorrow off if I still feel like this.

SoManyTshirts · 15/10/2024 18:48

Flu jab on Friday, was tired and out of sorts all day Saturday, had to lie down all day.
Covid jab (Spikevax) on Monday, slightly sore arm.

How did you get covid jabs? I really want one but am not entitled this year. Last year carers were allowed to have them.

I had a flu jab on Friday and have felt really ill since but tbh have been assuming that I caught covid or flu too, as it has been such a strong reaction

You can pay to have them privately if you don't qualify for the free one. I am only 62 so didn't qualify this year but I got it done at the local pharmacy for £75

Laloue233 · 15/10/2024 18:49

I had both an hour ago, already got the weird sensation in my neck. Off tomorrow so I can wallow if need be.

JaceLancs · 15/10/2024 18:51

Everyone I know who has had both jabs is feeling awful for up to a week afterwards
I will be refusing both - I’ve had covid vaccine 3 times, never bothered with flu vaccine - I’ve also had Covid twice - possibly a third time but we had already stopped testing
Im now in the process of being diagnosed with CFS, ME, long Covid or post viral fatigue syndrome and all the evidence is pointing to it being the vaccine rather than the virus due to timescales
The professionals I’ve been seeing said it’s incredibly common but they are not allowed to diagnose it as vaccine related for obvious reasons
I will not risk being vaccinated again - believe me you would not want to feel like this

AgathaMystery · 15/10/2024 18:57

Auburng · 15/10/2024 16:12

It's normal that you do feel rough after the vaccines. Shows that the antibodies are working. Each year the flu vaccine has different strains and last year I passed out at work 3 days after the flu vaccine.

I do not know why many GP practices are encouraging patients to have both covid and flu vaccines together and one in each arm. I get a very stiff arm with limited mobility too. The pharmacy where I had the flu vaccine said to come back a few days time to get covid vaccine.

Because

  1. they are paid for each vaccine they give - £7.54 for Covid or £9.58 for flu or £17.60 for both. Pharmacies get £17.12
  2. they have to pay a vaccinator and they time taken to give 2 vaccines vs 1 is negligible.
