Covid and Flu jabs and feeling awful!

Did anyone else have really bad side effects this time? I am a bit better now but I was in a horrible way last night. Thought I was getting full-on flu!

Unless you are in a vulnerable group I don't think it makes sense to have either. Both vaccines are only against certain strains. Viruses mutate and catching a natural virus gives you longer lasting more adaptive immunity. I know we were told otherwise during lockdown but we were told lots of nonsense then.

I am in the vulnerable group but that's not really the question that I asked...

It's just occured to me that the pharmacist didn't actually tell me which Covid jab he'd given me... That's pretty bad, right?!

I had both jabs last week, one in each arm. The Covid arm became quite painful but I took paracetamol before going to bed and next day they were both just a little bit achy. I didn't feel ill at all. I'm 71 so always have my jabs. I had Covid in 2020 and although I wasn't very ill I still never want it again!

Loopzy · 16/10/2024 23:24

I had mine a week apart, purely as I can get the flu jab sooner through work, than my GP practice. Plus the GP only does the flu clinics on a weekend and I'd rather not be ill then! I had a slight sore arm with Covid (Moderna) and I've been fine after the flu jab.

JohnSt1 · 16/10/2024 23:32

I didn't notice anything after my first COVID vaccine shot apart from a sore arm. The subsequent shots made me tired the next day. I usually have the Pfizer, but I was given Moderna once.

Jabtastic · 16/10/2024 23:37

I was fine with Pfizer but only Moderna is available now. I had a rough reaction to it so I probably will just get flu this time. I'm immunosuppressed so I get them 6 monthly.

LegoTherapy · 17/10/2024 06:25

I'm feeling ok again this morning. I felt so off yesterday afternoon that I thought I might faint so the school run was fun. I usually walk but had to get the bus. So 36 hours of feeling rubbish.

@Marmunia10667 you're preaching to the wrong person. I'm a microbiologist, I've worked on many vaccines and know how valuable they are.
You've been fine? Well whoop de do for you. Next time you might not be, or you might pass it on to someone vulnerable.

I’m also a microbiologist and there is no way I, or anyone I love, is having either vaccine ever again

Hopefully anyone you love can make their own decision.

LorettyTen · 17/10/2024 10:11

@Spondoolie
I've never met anyone who's both a microbiologist and a control freak

Vates · 17/10/2024 10:35

I had both on Sunday 6th. One arm was sore but zero other problems, I felt normal.

Afterrain · 17/10/2024 11:05

I opted to have them separately.
Had the covid one and will have flu jab after my holiday

OrangeCorduroy · 08/11/2024 10:10

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old but I wanted to ask if anyone's ever had a delayed reaction to the flu jab? I had what felt very much like a reaction (bad headache, body ache, chills, tired) but it was 3 days after my jab, and it lasted about 12 hours. Does that seem possible?

Greentreesandbushes · 08/11/2024 10:14

I lost 24 hours this week after covid and flu jab. Shivering under a duvet and all my muscles hurt. Nearly fell down stairs with dizziness

Why? Just why? I had Covid last week and only had a stuffy nose. Felt absolutely fine! No vaccines since one made me very ill in 2010.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 12/11/2024 08:14

Slightly sore arm that was all.

GettingStuffed · 12/11/2024 08:16

I had both. My COVID arm felt like my bra strap had slipped down and I was very drowsy the next day .

Other than that I was fine.

dottiedodah · 12/11/2024 08:17

TrayBake81 I was told by my GP to have them separetly .She said her DD and DM had both had bad side effects!

GettingStuffed · 12/11/2024 08:31

Two years ago I didn't have my jabs and I caught either the flu or COVID. I have never felt so ill in my life. I couldn't do anything as I was out of it. I had a temperature and as I read in a book in the land between sleep and awake for about 2 weeks. I ended up in hospital with a double chest infection. That virus killed my MiL.

I'd rather have a sore arm and feel ill for a couple of days rather than go through that again.

Scientists tend to be a bit more in the line of weighing risks and benefits, you seem a bit strident.

The flu jab has been proved extremely safe over many years (started in the 1960s). The Covid jab is more nuanced but for people at risk of serious problems with Covid, the elderly, those with existing breathing difficulties, immune supressed, etc it can be life saving. If you and your loved ones are not at serious risk from Covid I can understand you and them not taking it. But be careful if you are ordering people at risk not to take it.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 12/11/2024 08:34

No effects at all
Both in same arm. Slightly sore arm for a couple of days is all

Vbsbdncbc · 12/11/2024 09:09

I got myocarditis days after a Covid vaccine. I am pro vaccine so got it and was diagnosed in hospital. Initial symptoms were a feeling like heartburn that did not go with Gaviscon. Then it got worse, but my case was severe enough to be in hospital. I am not young or a male. I hate to know that women were dismissed by their GPs as having heartburn and anxiety, when tests should have been made to rule out myocarditis.

outforawalkbiatch · 12/11/2024 11:15

@Marmunia10667 because some of us need vaccines for protection because our immune systems are fucked

Covid for me was 3 weeks off work, anti virals, a home covid ward ringing me three times a day, my consultant on the phone, and going from doing 90 min spin classes to barely able to do 10 mins
How I wish it was just a stuffy nose

I developed pericarditis a few weeks after catching COVID. They linked it directly to the virus although obviously can’t be 100% sure.
I’ve was offered the vaccine this year and had it a few days ago. Hoping that it doesn’t trigger myocarditis/pericarditis. It seemed like a good idea to have it but I’m now wondering if I’m more susceptible to this as a side effect, having had it before.

It is really tough to know. I wish there was more transparency and research. It could answer questions like this and lead to better treatment.

At least you would be aware of the symptoms and seek swift treatment.

Good luck and best wishes.
