To ask if you'd go to hospital and get yourself checked out?

I just fell and rolled my ankle, it feels like it was pretty bad but I'm not home to check yet.

I've grazed my knee and that's bleeding pretty badly but I'm mostly worried about my ankle, I can feel it swelling and it's so painful to bear weight on, but I can walk (slowly and painfully).

I tripped on an uneven paving slab which is why I want to go and get checked out, because I'm aware I could've done something quite serious. Is it OTT of me to go in the morning? I know it's not an a&e right now type of thing but I can also feel that something isn't quite right

Get yourself to some sort of treatment place!
Looks like a Weber's fracture - very common

Pls don't say this 🥲🤣 I've got so much planned for November and December 🥲🥲

Before anyone asks, I'm not claiming x-ray vision based on your photos @itwasnevermine !
Just that it is a very common fracture with your description, and your ankle looks like a million such presentations.
And if it isn't fractured, at least they'll give you some strapping or walking support
Good luck!

I did mine back in February. They gave me an aircast boot, which helped
I was on a walking holiday within 6 weeks! No plaster required

Mama2many73 · 15/10/2024 08:36

My friend thought the same (she was a nurse before retraining) . could weight bear but uncomfortable. Eventually went to a (then) walk in centre - she actually drove herself!! Xrayed and she had fractured her ankle. She ended up with a boot for several months. Staff told her she should have come in straight away. Caused her more issues by waiting.

🥲🥲🥲🥲

My mum is now up so I'll be off soon and getting it checked, I had really hoped it would have gone down overnight and this was all a flash in the pan

Good luck OP. Hope it's just a sprain and no fracture. They should give you walking boots too - they really help.

Praying for this, I've been for sprains before and only been given crutches once so I don't have a lot of hope but at least it's very visibly swollen and bruised so if I turn up to work without anything I can't be called a liar!

I'm at urgent care now (took us nearly an hour to get here!!!)

Hope you get sorted … I really think it’s fractured, expect a moon boot x

annonymousse · 15/10/2024 11:34

In a way it's better if it's a fracture. It will heal more quickly than soft tissue injury. All the best

itwasnevermine · 15/10/2024 11:37

Triage lady said she doesn't think it's a fracture as I'm weight bearing, had an xray and now I'm just waiting to be seen

Wilfrida1 · 15/10/2024 11:51

Sprains can be more painful and cause more swelling than a fracture :(

Purplebunnie · 15/10/2024 11:53

Weverunoutofteabags · 14/10/2024 22:13

I rolled my ankle yesterday, it swelled up and I wasn't able to walk without pain the rest of the day. This morning the swelling has gone down completely, walking up and down stairs is still mildly painful but other than that it's fine.
I put a bag of frozen mushrooms on it and dosed myself up with pain killers when I got home from work yesterday.

Unless you can't put weight on it at all or it's extremely swollen or has visible damage which may suggest something is broken/fractured, I'd give it a day or two and see if it improves.

My advice to you is the same as to the OP. Get some physio on it. We all dismiss these rolled ankles but they get weaker every time we hurt them.

Cynic17 · 14/10/2024 20:04

Absolutely not. Even if you have sprained or even broken it, the hospital can't do much. It just needs time to heal. Take a couple of generic painkillers and leave A&E for people who really need it.

Don't be stupid! Of course a hospital can do something for a broken ankle. Pins, plates, casts etc. Stop giving out potentially dangerous medical advice in the internet, you clearly have no clue.

itwasnevermine · 15/10/2024 13:02

I'm still waiting 🫠 it's swelling more and so so painful but the triage wasn't really interested in taking a proper look and I had an xray two and half hours ago!

Good luck, OP! Glad you made it to hospital.

itwasnevermine · 15/10/2024 14:06

No break thank goodness, which the doctor seemed surprised by!! It's very, very swollen so I'm on crutches and ordered to ice it this afternoon and then go from there, no exercise for two weeks

Glad you went op!! So is it a sprain ? They can be worse than breaks I think.
I remember doing some damage to a ligament or something In my ankle years ago and had crutches for a week, my god my hands were killing by the end of that week 😆

itwasnevermine · 15/10/2024 14:29

@herniated a very bad sprain! The doctor was surprised there was no break with how swollen it is. I'm supposed to keep it elevated all week but it's back to work for me tomorrow so I don’t know how well that will work 🤣

Off sick I would say! It's going to take longer to heal if you don't rest it properly now.
You can self certify for a week if you need to

TenWeeCaramelJoeys · 15/10/2024 16:37

No exercise for two weeks? Not all bad news then🤣 Glad it's not broken OP.

Singleandproud · 15/10/2024 16:55

@itwasnevermineyou need to take the time off sick, WFH if possible and you prob shouldn't be driving on it as your movement is compromised.

Glad it's not broken though.

I can't afford sick leave (it's unpaid for the first three days) and WFH isn't allowed - I will double check tomorrow if I can but I'm in work tomorrow for sure

I can't quite believe I'm posting pictures of my feet to the internet (for free!) but I'm hoping these show the egg I'm dealing with - bruising seems to have subsided a little bit but my god it's sore! My ankles are fat anyway but I can definitely see the big lump on the left one

I haven’t seen an update, but that looks exactly like when I chipped a bone in my ankle. Can’t remember what the bone was called now….so I’m going to look and see if I am right….!
