To appear at least outwardly confident and together after some childhood and adolescent difficulties.

I find it hilarious when people class me as a confident, sociable extrovert, but I take it as a compliment.

I ran a marathon last year. I know, so did hundreds of thousands of other people, but I NEVER thought I'd be able to the training or the distance. In doing it, sticking to the plan (giving up booze, late nights, even a family holiday!) I discovered a side to myself I didn't know was there and found an inner calm for my noisy brain. It is my greatest achievement to date. I might even do another one!

I recently discovered that I am naturally gifted at removing ticks from dogs’ skin. A quiet, but most satisfying, talent.

That was my job as a teen, I was a master at getting ticks out of our dog. It was indeed very satisfyyng work 😁

Yes, hello!
That's mostly why I married a man 30 years older.
When the time comes, I will shut the door, there is no rush.
Friends are a waste of time and energy, that's why I like to be alone with my thoughts, mostly.
My husband made it all possible.
When I was 18, I had no clue how to survive in this world I haven't chosen - work, family, people.
It was quite daunting.
Thanks for the challenge, btw.

Well, so what?
I don't have to run around like a blue arse fly, do I?
Everyone sees success as something different, nothing wrong with that.
When I go back "home" and see my relatives and yes, some "friends", old before their time, run down, not a hundred quid for themselves, divided between other people....then I see I am where I wanted to be, with no care in the world and nicely preserved.
Is it really that weird, to want your life for yourself? 😝

I make a superb lemon meringue party cake. My home made gravy is the best in the world. I can eat an entire red velvet cake in one sitting, just need 15 minutes and a fork.

Just sat my grade 8 cello today having taken it up in middle age 5 years ago. So proud of myself and had to overcome so many demons to do it.

Goodness, that is amazing! Congratulations! 👏👏.

I’m still (increasingly hopelessly) wishing I could manage grade 5 piano, having taken it up again (from a very low base, grade 2 decades previously) over 10 years ago. Twice now I’ve been nearly ready for the exam, but not enough to feel at all confident. The fact is - I don’t mind admitting it - I don’t practise enough.

I assure you, not that it matters, that I'm not unhappy to be "lonely".
I couldn't cope with people around me.
😊

Supported my autistic 10 year old 'school refuser' through the rest of the school years at home, doing GCSEs at home.

Despite being told that I was failing him by not forcing him back into school and that he would never gain a proper education, leave home or have a social life he is now living his best life at UCL, living away from home in university halls having achieved top A Level grades.

I am quietly proud of my relationship with our DDs. We're very close and have a lot of fun together. I can count on one hand the amount of times we have argued or even had heated words.

They're 21 and 20 and have their own busy lives, but still happily choose to spend time with me, too. They know they can always come to me with anything and they will get a calm, reasoned response that will always be in their best interest.

Good to hear but definitely not for me. All my achievements have been down to me for which I am incredibly proud. Enjoy!

How?! Just HOW do you study for a degree with a job and young kids?! You're all bloody amazing! 💃

I overcame my awful anxiety and did a year long course to qualify as an aromatherapist. Absolutely love using essential oils for all aspects of life and feel really proud of myself that I did it despite the anxiety. Feel the fear 🥴and all that 😊

AtmosAtmos · 17/11/2024 19:12

These are brilliant achievements

solvendie · 17/11/2024 19:20

I’ve ran 102 miles in one shift

mrlistersgelfbride · 17/11/2024 19:43

Great thread.
Ran 3 marathons (the last whilst 2 months pregnant) and got a better time each time 😊
