This might sound stupid and not much of an achievement but neither of my 2 kids aged 22 and 15 have ever asked me if I love them, completely different to my experience of being a child and a young adult.

Certainly not stupid and a brilliant achievement

I can point out every country in Europe, Asia, South America and North America on a map, plus all English counties and American states. Currently working on the Oceanic countries and Scottish counties.

@BetterOffDeadWillNeverFindAMan Domestic Violence and Abuse.

Was on a steering group to set up a specialised Court service for DVA cases, to be heard in magistrates Court due to low conviction rates high retraction of victim statements.

Ran a DVA service. So was insistent that the victim needed advocacy and support throughout the prosecution process.

Charity had sufficient reserves to create a court coordinator post, sought funds following that. The ministry of justice eventually funded this role and rolled it out.

No glory for me but i do not care about that.

My memory is absolutely spectacular. I spent the first half of my life faking how much I remember because it freaked people out. I'm not talking, oh I remember being born, but if I've read it, I've remembered it.
I'm constantly telling my son who has the same gift / curse not to hide it because of other people. You don't have to gloat, but you don't have to pretend to fit in, shine like the star you are, etc 😃

A fully funded PhD from a UK top 5 university then a lectureship at a Russell Group university, being the first of my family to attend university at all and with no benefit of financial or sector/subject-specific support.

I love my job and try to support/mentor students who are in a similar position as I know how bloody hard it can be.

StressedQueen · 13/10/2024 18:42

Recovered from having an eating disorder in my late teens. Had twins surprisingly at 22 and it was so difficult despite having my husband's support as we struggled with money at first. I had to have therapy to make sure I was a good mother but I made it out. Ended up having 3 more children and now I am 37 and have been married for 16 years with 5 wonderful children and I am financially stable and could not be happier.

Set up the very first DVA court support worker later adopted by the state and called the IDVA service.

This is incredible. What a legacy.

I've sat in one of those giant UN negotiation rooms and represented my country in a negotiation.

After a terrible, neglectful, and abusive childhood I've produced children who are so amazing that one has a job that is beyond anything I could have believed as a fragile person. I can't say more as last time people took umbrage and while I don't give into bullies, I'm not spoiling this thread. My other child is a certified genius and another is the loveliest, brightest, kindest person I know as well as also being very intelligent.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/10/2024 18:51

I can speak quite a few languages. 3 fluently, one very well and another one at basic conversation level. I was only brought up speaking English, so the others were all learnt as foreign languages. If someone would pay me to just learn language after language, that's what I'd do! Unfortunately I don't really have time to learn any new ones atm.

LangYang · 13/10/2024 18:52

@BeBraveLittlePenguin hi! I’ve only ever met my sister and my dad who can do this as well as me. I do gloss over what I remember with friends as it still freaks them out - but I’ve let it rip at work and now I’m known for my phenomenal memory. I used to read encyclopaedia Brittanica as a child so I’m pretty handy on a quiz team…

I can do the rubik cube.

I could for a while. Ds taught me. It's the kind of thing that just won't stick in my head long-term though. My memory is only good at words! I have to go somewhere about 25 times before I can remember the way Blush
