@BeBraveLittlePenguin hi! I’ve only ever met my sister and my dad who can do this as well as me. I do gloss over what I remember with friends as it still freaks them out - but I’ve let it rip at work and now I’m known for my phenomenal memory. I used to read encyclopaedia Brittanica as a child so I’m pretty handy on a quiz team…

This sounds amazing. My memory is very poor, my DH always has to remind me about things we've done, films we've watched etc. I truly wish I could remember more! Im reasonably good at remembering work related things thankfully, just not experiences or pub quiz type information!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/10/2024 18:54

Oh also I know all of the books of the bible (old and new testament) in order. I'm a staunch atheist Grin.

HailtotheBop · 13/10/2024 18:54

Coped with having severe mental illness (schizoaffective disorder). Life hasn't been easy, but I've managed to be a good enough Mum to my two sons. I do my best to remain a positive person and be a decent wife, friend, sister and daughter too.

Andwhatfreshhellisthis · 13/10/2024 18:55

I underwent a serious assault when I was in my 20s, I lost consciousness numerous times and survived, I found it hard and married someone abusive but got divorced quickly. I then did loads of therapy and work on myself and have ended up as a mum to two great kids and was lucky enough to meet the love of my life at 50. And he is the gentlest, loving, funniest man and I am totally and utterly in love. I never thought I could feel this way. He makes me laugh all day, even today we went swimming with all our kids and we popped into the shops on the way home for icecream and out he comes with huge flowers for me and he just lovely. He is teaching my son to be a proper man one that does the washing up, cooking, cleaning etc without being asked etc my lovely man lost his wife 4 years and she is part and parcel of our lives too and I love the fact we have her photo up and his son talks about her all the time and I’m lucky for him that lightning struck twice. Sometimes he disappears and I find the fridge had been cleaned out etc it’s just lovely

Escaped a 20 year abusive marriage and have brought up two dds who are fabulous young women. 🥰

I am so pleased there are some other weirdos on here 🤣 It's odd, I am pretty intelligent by normal matrices but somehow this quirk is something I hid for absolutely years. No longer!

Are they doing well at college and properly socialized? if those are both true then thats pretty amazing ngl

If you mean socialised by being able to converse confidently with people of all ages etc then, yes they far outdo most schooled children, having not been segregated by year group all their CSA life 😉
Also doing very well in class too, keeping up with the workload and thriving.

LangYang · 13/10/2024 18:57

@AllProperTeaIsTheft there are jobs where you are literally paid to do that! I met someone who was particularly gifted and he was paid to learn esoteric languages and dialects. Check out: www.gchq-careers.co.uk/our-careers/specialist-roles/language-specialists.html

I recently discovered that I am naturally gifted at removing ticks from dogs’ skin. A quiet, but most satisfying, talent.

Drfosters · 13/10/2024 19:00

I got one of the top marks in the country in one of my a-levels. It was along long time ago (and I was not the top in the subject at my school by far!) but I’m still chuffed about it. Never quite achieved those dizzy heights again!

Recovered from having an eating disorder in my late teens. Had twins surprisingly at 22 and it was so difficult despite having my husband's support as we struggled with money at first. I had to have therapy to make sure I was a good mother but I made it out. Ended up having 3 more children and now I am 37 and have been married for 16 years with 5 wonderful children and I am financially stable and could not be happier.

Bloody brilliant

Nohugspleaseandthankyou · 13/10/2024 19:01

I have really good control of my eyebrows and am really good at limbo.

12 yrs ago I was in a deep dark place with missed PND, 2yrs postpartum. Today I travel a lot for work, manage 15 offices, have a good income, moved countries and this afternoon I ran my fastest 4 mile ever - and got a medal.

PreBlendOils · 13/10/2024 19:03

I'm a single mum, with no parents or family, and a an absolute weapon of an ex partner. I grew up in a house full of violence, drugs and alcohol. Council flats, benefits and addiction were all I ever knew of life.

After getting pregnant I started to turn it around. I've dealt with my own reliance on substances, escaped from ex partner, built 2 businesses from the ground up without any help. Dc are doing fantastic, eldest is on track for grammar school and youngest is doing amazing even with the extra challenge of sen. Our home is peaceful, clean, comfortable, and full of lovely things that bring us all joy.

I have to remind myself of how far I've come. I still feel a deep shame about my past and struggle with feeling like a worthless piece of shit most of the time. Apparently it's quite common for those with cptsd.

Zanatdy · 13/10/2024 19:05

Well it’s only major to me, not for most i’m sure but my proudest moment was going from teenage single mum to higher rate tax payer. And showing all those horrible mums at the records of achievement ceremony (who i could hear talking about me) that no, I hadn’t ruined my life. Their horrible words spurred me on when I was burning the middle oil doing my degree and for any promotion boards i’ve done.

LangYang · 13/10/2024 19:05

@Drfosters well done! That’s a brag of mine too and I still feel proud! But if you read my other post you’ll see I did have a bit of a natural advantage as I can remember everything I’ve ever read - and I got lucky with the questions as I could just rewrite the perfect textbook chapter I’d stored in my memory 😁

My memory is absolutely spectacular. I spent the first half of my life faking how much I remember because it freaked people out. I'm not talking, oh I remember being born, but if I've read it, I've remembered it.
I'm constantly telling my son who has the same gift / curse not to hide it because of other people. You don't have to gloat, but you don't have to pretend to fit in, shine like the star you are, etc 😃

I was always called a liar or making things up when I could remember things that adults had forgotten. Usually by teachers. Got into trouble because for certain things, especially emotionally charged events, I can remember the smells, sounds, words that were said. My first detention was for backing up another pupil because the teacher had told him to do one thing, which he did. He had to have special homework because of dyslexia. I couldn't understand why others didn't remember things. So then learnt to hide it, and accepted that I was weird. It's lovely to finally hear that there was someone else who did the same. But yes.make sure your son doesn't go down our path. I wish I had dug my feet in. Might be worth seeing if he can do a morrisby test.

Sadly I'm probably a bit old for a career change to something like that now! Every year we do an online session with GCHQ for our language classes though, to show them what exciting stuff you can do with languages. I teach lots of kids who have a non-English home language in addition to the European languages they learn at school. Often it doesn't really occur to them to think of it as an asset!

Ruthietuthie · 13/10/2024 19:14

I speak 15 languages fluently.
