Meal times in my house consists of me cooking about four different meals from scratch all at the same time and I get them all on the table at the same time too.

Dearg · 13/10/2024 19:16

I have trained the two calmest, friendliest, most bomb-proof labs you will ever meet.

Things I'm proudest of:

Got my physics degree while I was a single parent
Passed my driving test 1st go
Can strip down and rebuild a car engine
Survived abusive childhood
Survived abusive marriage
My kids are unaffected by my childhood trauma and their lowlife father
Being independent with a good job and my own home and finally debt free

Singleandproud · 13/10/2024 19:19

I know every word to Austin Powers 1 and 2 which is not a skill I was aware I had untill DD wanted to watch it about 20 years after the last time I watched them. Came as quite a suprise to both of us

LivelyFinch · 13/10/2024 19:21

My proudest achievement....I was not The Weakest Link!

Nothatgingerpirate · 13/10/2024 19:22

Hmmm 😏
Really a brag and a gloat.
I have done so much fucking better than anybody back in my country, some of them used to put me down quite brutally.
Now at 45 I'm sorted for the rest of my life.

useitorlose · 13/10/2024 19:23

Brought up the most amazing young woman who's now making great strides as a civil engineer and giving orders to men twice her age.

I worked on the Inclusion (special education) policy for an international government. It was published last year and impacts children in nearly 300 schools spread over 26,000 sq. miles.

I also have 2 Masters degrees and am halfway through an EdD, but who cares.

I speak 15 languages fluently.

Wow. Honestly my big regret is not being able to speak a second language. We have zero talent for it in my family

duckydoo234 · 13/10/2024 19:26

When a man mansplains something scientific to me, I can say, "oh, I'm glad you explained that; my two engineering degrees didn't help at all".

But probably the most practical brag is paying off my mortgage at 39, while pregnant with second child.

This sounds amazing. My memory is very poor, my DH always has to remind me about things we've done, films we've watched etc. I truly wish I could remember more! Im reasonably good at remembering work related things thankfully, just not experiences or pub quiz type information!

Imagine remembering all the horrible things which have been said to you, imagine feeling red with embarrassment over weeing yourself age 4 on your first day of infants, the smell of that paint as you try to get your teachers attention. Imagine getting 10 minutes into the film for your brain to just tell you the rest of it. There are much worse things that I remember... it's not always great to have a good memory.
However remembering every birth, you seeing the love of your life, you turning around and seeing them, dropping your water cup. Remembering your wedding day, the first time you kissed, just a peck on the lips, but the unmistakable feeling of 'i hope' and 'when are they going to come to their senses' and finally the 'well they didnt pull away' and seeing their smile. It makes all the negatives go away.

how to success GIF

It is really difficult to get on the property ladder by yourself, but I have worked very hard to do it alone.

AutumnGarland · 13/10/2024 19:31

I got a degree when my life was falling apart.

Mollyplop999 · 13/10/2024 19:35

I desperately wanted a school to ride my pony in, but they were horrendously expensive. I designed, sourced all the materials, hired the machinery , and built it myself. 40 by 20 metres. I'm very proud of it, and it cost me a third of what I'd been quoted.

Devillishlooloo · 13/10/2024 19:37

I failed the 11+ and was written off in education. I was lucky enough to go back into education where I achieved GCSEs and A levels all at grade A. A diploma in nursing, a degree in public health and a post grad in education.

BunnyLake · 13/10/2024 19:42

I think it really has to be that I brought up two children by myself (no staying with their dad eow or anything as he went to live abroad for a number of years). I had no breaks, no ‘me’ time etc and they never went off the rails. We’ve never even really had a row or anything. They’re young adults now, really upstanding people and I feel proud of myself for that. I think it was because I chose my battles so it was a very stable home life.

I don’t really have any other achievements.

Mcemmcee · 13/10/2024 19:44

I echo a previous poster who said they are proud of being a teenage mum who turned things around and now a higher rate tax payer.

I had my only at 18, abusive relationship by an awful man who was much older than me and continued to abuse me through the family court system.

I am 35 now, 17 year old amazing DD who makes me teary with how proud I am of her. Engaged to a lovely man.

Ive built two businesses (one within SEN - making huge strikes for children with special educational needs) and I am so
proud of myself. I wish I could tell scared 17 year old homeless me that it would be so much better than ‘ok’ in the end ❤️

Owly11 · 13/10/2024 18:29

Just sat my grade 8 cello today having taken it up in middle age 5 years ago. So proud of myself and had to overcome so many demons to do it.

Grade 8 is amazing, well done!!

BobbyBiscuits · 13/10/2024 19:45

I came second on the Weakest Link. Lol.
Literally my mum was crying with joy on the phone when I told her. I think she thought I'd be abused so severely by Ann Robinson I'd need therapy. But instead I was delighted.

Totally brilliant. Gives me hope for someone I love

Nobody can do it until they want to. I hope the person you loves wants to give up very soon. But please don't spend your whole life waiting.

BetterOffDeadWillNeverFindAMan · 13/10/2024 18:33

so proud of you xx

Thank you

SunsetSkylane · 13/10/2024 19:49

I'm a published author.

I think I'm a really good mum to my daughter, who is autistic and has had a hard few years, but seems to be thriving now

Mama1980 · 13/10/2024 19:50

Lovely thread.
I have raised 4 children alone, no breaks at all until I met my husband a few years ago. My terrified and traumatised dd1 (adopted) who they told me should never recover to live a 'normal life' now has a degree,
a MA in biological science, a kick ass career and is married with a baby. That's down to her not me but I like to think I've been her biggest cheerleader.
I found time to finish a phd and have published two books to date.
