I desperately wanted a school to ride my pony in, but they were horrendously expensive. I designed, sourced all the materials, hired the machinery , and built it myself. 40 by 20 metres. I'm very proud of it, and it cost me a third of what I'd been quoted.

Wow!

Uselessatbeingaperson · 13/10/2024 19:54

I got through lockdown entirely on my own.

DiscoinFrisco · 13/10/2024 19:54

Recovered from anorexia to get two degrees and a career i love and family i adore and who adore me and any extra weight back.

Leaving the person who made me feel worthless and caused the anorexia was also a massive success .

Sadly I'm probably a bit old for a career change to something like that now! Every year we do an online session with GCHQ for our language classes though, to show them what exciting stuff you can do with languages. I teach lots of kids who have a non-English home language in addition to the European languages they learn at school. Often it doesn't really occur to them to think of it as an asset!

The different languages spoken throughout the UK are a massively wasted resource imv

bakewellbride · 13/10/2024 20:00

I can run ten miles with ease and without getting tired.

Adviceisneededplease · 13/10/2024 20:01

These are all so amazing!

My biggest achievements are all a bit different:

  • getting a first class degree and being the top of my degree year
  • meeting the love of my life and best friend at 16, getting married have 2 kids together, many many challenges and struggles, but remaining united and getting through the hurdles together, I know we'll always be together
  • giving birth 10 days before the first lock down and having a 20 month old at home, while my husband was a key worker working 5.5 days a week - was a very tough time in life but I built an amazing bond with my eldest as we spent so much time together, and feel proud I got through it without complaining

So many of these I could never even dream of achieving, like the languages etc - just amazing!

Is Cambridge University truly as prestigious as it is reputed to be, or is it more a product of hype? How does the academic experience compare to other universities, in terms of expectations such as analysis, essay detail, and overall rigor? For instance, would an 'A' grade at another university equate to only a 'C' at Cambridge, due to higher standards? In essence, is the level of academic excellence genuinely unmatched, or is it simply perceived as such?

DonaldJohnTrump · 13/10/2024 20:09

Became the President of the United States!
I never expected that.
Then I stopped a speeding bullet with my right ear.
I never expected that.
I just wonder what God wants me to do next.
Maybe create a new Golf Course.
I thought of that first.

Squirrel01 · 13/10/2024 20:10

for me, not sure overall at a guess to have been a part of a great charity for 8 years helping to raise funds for saving lives

Wrennyjenwren · 13/10/2024 20:10

Getting a pilot's licence at 35 whilst juggling a job and a small child (4).

After a terrible, neglectful, and abusive childhood I've produced children who are so amazing that one has a job that is beyond anything I could have believed as a fragile person. I can't say more as last time people took umbrage and while I don't give into bullies, I'm not spoiling this thread. My other child is a certified genius and another is the loveliest, brightest, kindest person I know as well as also being very intelligent.

Amazing 🙏

Getting through 100% of my worst days and still being here.

No greater achievement than this x

WetBandits · 13/10/2024 20:15

I’m well educated and have a great career, but my biggest brag is that I can rap all the words to Lose Yourself without missing a beat, does that count? Grin

Chickadoo · 13/10/2024 20:19

Had a child at 18 and was In 2 abusive relationships. Now I'm finishing my masters, have met a lovely man and bought a house.

NeedSomeComfy · 13/10/2024 20:23

That my lovely daughter once was on a trip out with her grandparents aged 3 and they bought her a KitKat. She'd never had one before and thought it was amazing, so she ate half of it and them carefully wrapped up the rest to save it to take it home and give it to Mummy and Daddy so they coukd try it too 😍

Theotherone234 · 13/10/2024 19:18

Things I'm proudest of:

Got my physics degree while I was a single parent
Passed my driving test 1st go
Can strip down and rebuild a car engine
Survived abusive childhood
Survived abusive marriage
My kids are unaffected by my childhood trauma and their lowlife father
Being independent with a good job and my own home and finally debt free

Totally brilliant

LadyFlumpalot · 13/10/2024 20:29

Mike Fernie (of DriveTribe fame) told me he likes my car.

changedusernameforthis1 · 13/10/2024 20:32

I wouldn't say it's a brag exactly, but I'm proud that after 15 years I eventually left my abusive Ex-H.
I'm always so, so proud of hearing about others doing the same and finding the courage so leave.

Currently happier than I've ever been, remarried to someone absolutely amazing and despite some leftover PTSD, I'm really enjoying my life finally.

Just sat my grade 8 cello today having taken it up in middle age 5 years ago. So proud of myself and had to overcome so many demons to do it.

Well done @Owly11 !! I'm doing my grade 7 next month, also took it up as an adult. Best thing I've ever done 👍

NettleTea · 13/10/2024 20:48

I am a self taught jeweller, and Ive currently got some pieces on display in an award winning gallery/teaching space in Hatton Garden this month. AND I sold a pair of earrings!!
Ive always felt a whole bunch of imposter syndrome in doing anything arty, even though Ive done arty stuff all my life, because both my degrees were science ones. I was given a place on an MA about 3 years ago but they cancelled the class. Im beginning, just, to be able to refer to myself as an artist at 58. It was always viewed as 'a waste' because I was good at maths and sciences.

SunsetSkylane · 13/10/2024 20:51

I've had a piece of my work in an exhibition for the first time this week.

Huge congratulations, Owly11! That's a brilliant achievement! How many years and how much practice did it take you to get to grade 8? I'm a middle aged beginner and cello is sitting looking at me sorrowfully because I'm not practising at the moment due to pain in my left little finger, which keeps locking during practice... 😭

Ahhh that's brilliant! I dabble in metal clay and my dream is to take a proper silver smithing course. Well done!
