Abusive cleaner took pics of my home

My lovely self employed cleaner went back to her own country. New cleaner started this week. House is tidy but dirty floor and surfaces, needs a good vacuum/mop/wiping up. We hire 4 hours a week for a deep clean of the downstairs(kitchen dining living room)/hallway and stairs. Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension, takes me 2 hours to do but pay for 4 so the job gets done properly.

New cleaner came and in 4 hours couldn't clean what we asked which is just vacuum/mop and wipe down all surfaces. Had to ask her to clean individual window seals as she didn't and when she left I noticed the living room window seal wasnt cleaned. She broke my glass chopping board and didn't say anything and left chemicals in the oven which I told her not to clean. Last cleaner was able to wipe the skirting boards and didn't leave a spec of dirt in corners, this cleaner left many areas dirty.

I said nothing and thought I won't hire again. The company messaged me why I don't want to hire again and I said I wasn't happy with the clean nothing else.

I then get very abusive messages and pictures of my floor being dirty saying my house is disgusting. Didn't get to respond before I was blocked by the company.

AIBU? I feel completely violated and want to complain some how. She took photos of my home without permission.

Don't even know what to do now and feel uncomfortable using another cleaner. Husband says I'm over reacting :( am I?

FYI I've added a photo of my home before the cleaner came. Floors are clearly dirty but the kitchen is tidy/needs wipe down.

Is the owner name Didi? I had similar experience with female owner. She didn't believe me the cleaner did a bad job and was super arrogant. I just moved on to the next cleaner but was really pissed off at the time.

Her name is Ilona, will be weary of a Didi now too lol!

My floors aren't that bad, the photo is of her brushing the dirt from the whole kitchen to one corner and on that day it was particularly dirty...

You should have told us upfront OP. If this is what she had swept together it's very different from finding this amount of crumbs lying there. I would go nuclear on the 3 male members in the family who are too macho to clean up after themselves. They should pay for regular cleaning service or start paying you. It's ridiculous. Whatever their origin they are not in the middle east and women are not slaves in Europe. How can you stand living with people who don't respect you ?

It's a different one then, but it's appaling when they have this attitude. And then they say the client is always right ... btw you have a beautiful kitchen. :)

It doesn’t look swept up it’s too spread out.

I can’t help but feel this thread is a good example of why mumsnet is accused of being a nest of vipers.
@ChicExpert I really hope this hasn’t overly upset you because whatever some sections of the internet may have you believe those pictures don’t come close to looking like you are living in squalor. I can think of a half dozen people we know with small kids that have loads more mess/dirt than that in between cleaning days and it’s not because they are lazy slobs but because they are busy and they have prioritized other things. This is allowed! It’s absolutely fine to prefer to clean every evening and keep things pristine and for some people they need that to feel comfortable and relaxed at home. It’s absolutely fine to hate housework and to do the bare minimum to keep things ticking over because cleaning makes you feel miserable and you’d rather put up with more mess than have to do it more often. It’s absolutely fine to be somewhere in between. The only thing that isn’t absolutely fine is to be horrible and judgemental about anyone who has a different approach to you.

Well said. I can't believe the heat OP is getting from some of the posters here. Probably the same numpties who haven't read all her posts where she explains she's heavily pregnant and lives in a multi-generational household of six adults and one child and three of those adults (all men) do nothing around the house other than to create mess for OP to clear/clean up.
Also, bloody hilarious how the agency said her home was "disgusting" - i) from the photo OP's posted it isn't, and ii) they're a CLEANING agency FFS - what do they think people hire CLEANERS for exactly?

blueshoes · 12/10/2024 22:21

Andyetitrains · 12/10/2024 21:46

How exactly was the cleaner or the cleaning company "abusive"? That's what puzzles me, along with what kind of pigs live like that, with all that crap all over the floor? It is disgusting. That is the thing I'd be ashamed of and I'd never have posted photos of it here. Jesus wept!

You need to get out more.

GrazingSheepy · 12/10/2024 22:23

Is there any possibility at all that the 3 men in the house who do fuck all (due to cultural behaviours) will ever leave? Is this your future and that of your unborn baby if it's a girl?

grannypants22 · 12/10/2024 22:23

What is going on with MN lately.

We had the tradesman swearing at an op and making her cry and people stood up for him and said it must have been the op's fault.

Now we have a cleaner doing a shoddy job and sending abusive texts and once again it's the OP who is disgusting for having a messy floor - this is why she has a cleaner!!!

If the floor was spotless why would she pay a cleaner? If she wasn't happy with the clean why should she continue with the same person? Does that automatically mean she deserves shitty messages?

Some of you must either be very passive to tolerate abuse from people you're hired to do a job. Or you're just being nasty for the sake of feeling a bit superior. Not sure which is more tragic.

OverAtTheDarkSide · 12/10/2024 22:24

Maybe we have a different idea of what a cleaner is for. my idea is to do the things I don’t have time to do, skirting boards, oven, tops of cupboards and high level dusting. Your idea seems to be a skivvy where you don’t even clean up your basic dirt on a daily basis.

that floor is filthy.

Mamabearsmile · 12/10/2024 22:25

Don't you feel judged by the haters...I really don't understand why people waste energy on being unpleasant to another person. Its an expression of soul poverty in them selves. Its bad energy that you can happily leave behind. The cleaning company were mean and unprofessional and you don't need them. I would definitely have a chat with your brothers. Now your pregnant they have to pitch in or food gets served on a paper plate and they empties will be put in their room if they don't clear away after themselves. It's just culture. Culture can and does change. You need to look out for yourself now. You go mighty girl!

ChicExpert · 12/10/2024 22:26

PondWarrior · 12/10/2024 22:11

You have 6 people living in your house and if a cleaner didn’t come then cleaning would only take you - one person - 2 hours per week total? 🤔

Not what I said, mopping/vacuuming/wiping down surfaces of our downstairs takes me 2 hours. This does not include tidying the home/laundry/cooking/dishes. I pay for someone to clean my home not tidy it.

Growlybear83 · 12/10/2024 22:27

That floor is truly disgusting and I would be so ashamed if anyone saw my house like that. I understand that you pay to have a cleaner because you don't want to do your own cleaning or don't have time, but seriously, it takes five minutes to sweep a kitchen floor that size every morning or evening. I can't believe that you posted that photo and don't seem to understand how filthy it is. It's amazing that you don't have a mouse or cockroach infestation.

Mirabai · 12/10/2024 22:27

ChicExpert · 12/10/2024 21:39

Our last cleaner was absolutely amazing, I don't think all are bad but I am now anxious too about finding another. Never did I think someone would intentionally take pictures of my house to shame me. And make it look worse than it actually was 😞

Id say stay away from agencies and try go for self employed. We found our first on bark!

Don't feel ashamed, not everyone is privileged enough to have a sparkly home 24/7 I think most of these posters are very unrealistic and judgy. Nothing wrong with asking for help and absolutely no reason to hire a cleaner with a clean home..

Hope your cleaner search goes all well ❤️

If you don’t want to use an agency go on to Next Door and find a recommendation from another employer.

Do you even use a cleaner? What an odd thing to say. So your cleaner does not hoover or mop, lol.

Why are you paying when you have grown ass men who should be?

BlastedPimples · 12/10/2024 22:29

Yes the floor is dirty. And? That's what cleaners are for.

How do you know how long the dirt has been there for? One day maybe.

And it's superficial dirt. Needs a hoover and a mop. That's all. And yes, cleaners do do that. Not just the stuff you don't have time for.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 12/10/2024 22:31

Did you muddle your words and say window seals (rather than cills) to the cleaner?

Because that implies you were looking for a level of clean she felt was unfair in the time frame given there was quite a lot of ordinary cleaning to do as well.

I'd be a bit Wtf if someone complained about seals but expecting a window cill to be wiped is within the usual field.

Perhaps it's a communication issue?

Mirabai · 12/10/2024 22:29

This.

And make sure you keep your independence - career, etc. - and stop being a skivvy for this group of wasters you've married into.

DecayedStrumpet · 12/10/2024 22:34

Now I do love my eufy but it's not ZERO effort

You have to check the floor for socks, tissues, or bloody charging cables 🙄 as it gets tangled up in them and upset

Noodlehen · 12/10/2024 22:41

I am curious if it’s just the case that the new agency require their staff to take before and after pictures for any potential complaints?

Noodlehen · 12/10/2024 22:44

To echo others, I too would have swept beforehand. The blue carrier bag(?) why hasn’t that been picked up. I am the world’s messiest cook so my kitchen can look like this daily but it’s not hard to use a brush or a swiffy. Two minute job after you’re done.

I think from the household you describe you need more than 4 hours a week - maybe two a day if affordable for you. If the men won’t clean and you’re not capable I don’t see what other options you have.

I don't see the point of an agency doing this. It is not as if showing it to the customer will make them change their minds. Cleaning agencies are also not regulated so there is no one to complain to that they need to justify. As for social media, that could be anyone's floor!

They are probably so used to being complained about that they fixate on covering their behinds rather than clean properly.

PeterCapaldiBae · 12/10/2024 22:45

I'm quite disgusted by some of the comments on this thread. What a bunch of nasty bitches some people on here can be.

OP, congratulations on your pregnancy! You sound lovely. Don't be ashamed.

You paid for a cleaner to clean. They've done a shit job and then sent you abuse. Not on at all.

I tidy before the cleaner comes, but I do not clean. That is what the cleaner is paid to do and I am facilitating her doing that by tidying.
