Abusive cleaner took pics of my home

My lovely self employed cleaner went back to her own country. New cleaner started this week. House is tidy but dirty floor and surfaces, needs a good vacuum/mop/wiping up. We hire 4 hours a week for a deep clean of the downstairs(kitchen dining living room)/hallway and stairs. Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension, takes me 2 hours to do but pay for 4 so the job gets done properly.

New cleaner came and in 4 hours couldn't clean what we asked which is just vacuum/mop and wipe down all surfaces. Had to ask her to clean individual window seals as she didn't and when she left I noticed the living room window seal wasnt cleaned. She broke my glass chopping board and didn't say anything and left chemicals in the oven which I told her not to clean. Last cleaner was able to wipe the skirting boards and didn't leave a spec of dirt in corners, this cleaner left many areas dirty.

I said nothing and thought I won't hire again. The company messaged me why I don't want to hire again and I said I wasn't happy with the clean nothing else.

I then get very abusive messages and pictures of my floor being dirty saying my house is disgusting. Didn't get to respond before I was blocked by the company.

AIBU? I feel completely violated and want to complain some how. She took photos of my home without permission.

Don't even know what to do now and feel uncomfortable using another cleaner. Husband says I'm over reacting :( am I?

FYI I've added a photo of my home before the cleaner came. Floors are clearly dirty but the kitchen is tidy/needs wipe down.

I feel on the fence. That floor is pretty bad, but the cleaning owner was deeply unprofessional, no excuse for that reply.

If that floor situation is happening regularly, I would really recommend a robot vacuum. We got a vac/mop combo from Amazon for about £150. It runs on a schedule at 9am every day and has made a HUGE difference to how clean the house feels (with a toddler & 4 pets).

Noodlehen · 12/10/2024 22:48

Also, how did she abuse you?

ChicExpert · 12/10/2024 22:49

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 12/10/2024 22:31

Did you muddle your words and say window seals (rather than cills) to the cleaner?

Because that implies you were looking for a level of clean she felt was unfair in the time frame given there was quite a lot of ordinary cleaning to do as well.

I'd be a bit Wtf if someone complained about seals but expecting a window cill to be wiped is within the usual field.

Perhaps it's a communication issue?

I did unfortunately misspell it in the instructions I wrote. I did however get home two hours into the clean and physically showed her the individual window sills I needed cleaning and she didn't do all of them. Takes only a few minutes to wipe it so not sure why it wasn't done among another things missed.

I didn't complain to them though they asked why I didn't rehire her and I said I wasn't happy with the clean and was blocked 😬

To echo others, I too would have swept beforehand. The blue carrier bag(?) why hasn’t that been picked up. I am the world’s messiest cook so my kitchen can look like this daily but it’s not hard to use a brush or a swiffy. Two minute job after you’re done.

I think from the household you describe you need more than 4 hours a week - maybe two a day if affordable for you. If the men won’t clean and you’re not capable I don’t see what other options you have.

But her previous cleaner did a great job that she was perfectly happy with in 4 hours per week.

M103 · 12/10/2024 22:52

I'm with you OP, they were very unprofessional irrespective of the state of your floor. And the state of the floor is not that bad.Tons of crumbs, yes, but it just needs hoovering and the cleaner would presumably hoover anyway. The kitchen does look tidy (not clean, but tidy, so that it is not difficult to clean).

But some cleaners are miracle workers, and presumably OP could do more then as she wasn’t heavily pregnant

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 12/10/2024 23:01

If OPs house was that bad, the owner wouldn't have been getting the hump about her staff not being invited back to clean.

OP, I'd advise also finding someone self-employed. I know a woman who runs a cleaning agency and her cleaning staff are a lazy, dishonest nightmare.

Turnups · 12/10/2024 23:06

I think it’s crazy that people are giving you a hard time for not cleaning up for the cleaner!

Middle eastern men lol. Perks of living intergenerational :)

I wouldn't be finding that funny.

Agree with this.

If it was that much of a state they probably wouldn't be bothered about losing the work.

They were just being bitchy and unprofessional.

How exactly was the cleaner or the cleaning company "abusive"? That's what puzzles me, along with what kind of pigs live like that, with all that crap all over the floor? It is disgusting. That is the thing I'd be ashamed of and I'd never have posted photos of it here. Jesus wept!

OFGS

It might not be ideal but we have no idea if it's like that all the time.

And if you think it's that bad you really haven't seen much

You should have told us upfront OP. If this is what she had swept together it's very different from finding this amount of crumbs lying there. I would go nuclear on the 3 male members in the family who are too macho to clean up after themselves. They should pay for regular cleaning service or start paying you. It's ridiculous. Whatever their origin they are not in the middle east and women are not slaves in Europe. How can you stand living with people who don't respect you ?

I am in the same situation. It's not just men who act like this. I will probably die of cancer I have so much resentment lol

I wouldn't be finding that funny.

Brb let me just go change my dad's race and culture 😂

Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages to living intergenerationally and this is obviously a disadvantage but there's no use in crying just need to get on with it.

What OP was doing then is irrelevant. She knows what she wants done and has specified as much and her previous cleaner was meeting her requirements within 4 hours, so there's no reason why any other cleaner can't do this unless they're simply not as good/efficient/conscientious.

PickAChew · 12/10/2024 23:22

4 adults in my house, 2 very messy (ok 3 because I make a lot of non food mess when sewing) but our floor is never that rank because of the existence of that simple tool, the dustpan and brush. .

blueshoes · 12/10/2024 23:23

4 hours for a 3 bedroom house should generally be enough. Not deep clean but decent.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 12/10/2024 23:24

First few cleans would take longer as she familiarises herself with the house and work out a system in her head.

Always quicker to clean your own house as you know where everything is and not as paranoid about breaking stuff.

Floor is too dirty, she'd have been demotivated the second she saw it and imagined if this is how you welcome her, how bad would it be weeks in.

Yes, she's there to clean but why would she settle for that when she can get other clients that are more condiderate.

Grabyourpassportandmyhand · 12/10/2024 23:25

ATenShun · 12/10/2024 18:57

I think some of you are being unfair on the OP. Six people could easily leave that amount of debris on a kitchen floor rushing making breakfast. Four hours is a reasonable enough time for a professional to do a fairly thorough clean.

I think it depends on whether the rest of the house is like that too? If the kitchen floor is like that, I imagine the bathrooms must be very dirty. If the OP is bothered about window seals, then she is looking for a very thorough job. I'm not a cleaner but I wouldn't be able to clean my own house including window seals and skirtings boards in four hours.

Tittat50 · 12/10/2024 23:26

This thread is beyond insane.
Telling OP to clean before the god damn cleaner
She had4 hours for goodness sake
There are 6 people and pets. I have one kid that could grot the floor up over a period of 2 days

The fact OP hires a cleaner tells us that OP likes a clean house. Funny that

Nuts the lot of you.

Driedonion · 12/10/2024 23:27

I’m struggling to see how your flooring got that dirty in just 7 days especially after a deep clean.
I think it’s been longer and you don’t want to admit it… unless it has actually been a week and you are all mingers.

That floor is truly disgusting and I would be so ashamed if anyone saw my house like that. I understand that you pay to have a cleaner because you don't want to do your own cleaning or don't have time, but seriously, it takes five minutes to sweep a kitchen floor that size every morning or evening. I can't believe that you posted that photo and don't seem to understand how filthy it is. It's amazing that you don't have a mouse or cockroach infestation.

Are you heavily pregnant and living in a multi-generational household of six adults and one child where three of those adults (all men) do nothing around the house other than to create mess for you to clear/clean up? OP is.
And who says she doesn't "want" to do her own cleaning? The cleaner only does downstairs. OP cleans the upstairs of the house in addition to the laundry, ironing, cooking, clearing up in the kitchen and general tidying so the cleaner doesn't have to clean around "stuff". OP's hardly lazy FFS!
You're disgusting - you should be ashamed of that. Don't be so vile and judgemental.

I agree with you but at the same time I don't pay rent or bills the only thing we pay for is a cleaner. We are saving for our own house. Is why I feel like I need to do more around for my parents.

My daughter is also close with the family and it's nice living with what is essentially live in baby sitters. They might not be the cleanest but they have good hearts and I like being around them 🤷‍♀️

That floor is pretty bad. I'd be embarrassed to let a cleaner come sort it but I'm a bit strange when it comes to others clearing up after me.
