To be glad that people are realising the effects of filler!

Just that really. It's been advertised by the media, plastic surgeons and the beauty industry for years as a safe, temporary procedure, however evidence is now finding that that is not the case at all!
I'm glad the truth is coming out now although it's still so new I expect we won't know the full damage for years too come.

I also found this video particularly interesting if anyone else is interested:

Honestly, what’s it to you? If you don’t want to use them don’t, buy unless you’re a Doctor this sounds like crowing a bit.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 09/10/2024 20:00

I can’t be bothered to watch the video. What are they saying?

TerribleGardener · 09/10/2024 20:08

I haven't watched the video but I don't think it'll be a surprise to many people that injecting something into your face is dangerous. I assume it's a calculated risk people take, like smoking or drinking to excess, they know it's risky but do it anyway?

That video keeps showing up on my YouTube feed too.

Silvers11 · 09/10/2024 20:27

The evidence has been there for a long time - but like other things that are bad for us, people will still ignore the risks

FeralNun · 09/10/2024 20:28

It’s always seemed like a bonkers idea, but I totally get why people do it. Societal pressure is real. And feeling better about yourself is a huge boost.
It probably feels like a logical extension of make up, hair dye, brows etc. Perfectly understandable. I really hope it’s not as harmful as I suspect it might be..

GentleOliveFatball · 09/10/2024 20:33

I know the video is quite long, so here's some key points in case anyone is interested but can't watch the video 🙂

Filler doesn't dissovle, however it can migrate which I think is pretty frightening personally. Theres MRI scans that show this.

Heres some information I found on the potential side affects from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons
"Hyaluronic acid – the key compound in most fillers – has been found to block lymphatic channels, which help the body drain fluid and are a key part of the immune system that helps to fight disease. Research is now being planned to see if the treatment affects the risk of diseases including cancer. Fillers have also been linked to cysts, lumps, swelling and facial pain."

Many filler injections are not done by fully qualified professionals and have low sanitation standards. There is no mandatory training needed to buy or inject lip fillers.

I completely understand that not everyone cares and it's your choice what you do with your body, however I do think this information should be made available to everyone so it can be an informed decision at least. (Similar to smoking/vaping I suppose)

I can’t be bothered to watch the video. What are they saying?

That the filler doesn't dissolve. It moves around in your face, so you get topped up because your lips are no longer plump. Then you end up with pillow face because there's filler in places there shouldn't be. Then you dissolve it with Hyaluronidase, but that can dissolve other things too so you end up with saggy skin.

And the filler can block the lymphatic system. Which could cause cancer although I'm not sure there's any evidence.

Maria1979 · 09/10/2024 20:36

Never been tempted by it. I rather look my age than like ET. I think the majority of people who use fillers look awful so why would I pay for that?

ConstitutionHill · 09/10/2024 20:41

That exact video has shown up on my YT feed as well. Not sure why.

Pusheen467 · 09/10/2024 20:49

I watched that the other day and most of it wasn't news to me. I've had cheek, lip and undereye filler before and will do again at some point. I'm a lowish weight due to ED and it makes me feel a lot better about myself. I've only had very small amounts as I'm very wary of overfilling my face.

I'm aware filler migrates but the risk is worth it to me. The only people I've seen who ended up with pillow faces are people who kept getting large amounts or topping up too frequently. Maybe I'll end up with a pillow face too, guess I'll find out.

Notagain24 · 09/10/2024 20:54

It's such a weird fake look, at this stage i think it's about looking like you've had fillers and botox rather than looking more attractive, like fake tan in a way, no one tans to orange.

One of my cousins uses filler and botox to look younger - for work she says - but now she looks like someone who's just got lots of stuff in her face, so she could be anything from 40 to 55, when she's about 45.

SweetSakura · 09/10/2024 20:56

It's never remotely appealed to me. I find it makes people look slightly creepy even when done really well.

YourLastNerve · 09/10/2024 20:59

I always thought it was odd. I feel bad for a lot of young women who are probably going to end up looking a right mess.

...because fillers are migrating and blocking people's lymph nodes, and causing major health issues like cancer.

Wallywobbles · 09/10/2024 21:15

The other point the video makes is that dissolving them also dissolves your body's natural hydronic acid (?) which means you skin detaches and sags. Generally not a great look.

WiddlinDiddlin · 09/10/2024 21:26

Blocking your lymphatic system is deeply unpleasant to live with - mines blocked around my legs and bum and belly as a result of various health conditions.

The lymphatic system is something most people haven't a clue about nor aware they have or what it really does... but moving fluid around your body freely is important.

Currently I've sprung another leak above my knee and have been sat here working all day, with lymph fluid pissing down the back of my leg, putting me at risk of infection (and a cold wet leg). Fixing a buggered lymphatic system is not easy, impossible in some cases.

Just one of myriad good reasons not to go shoving stuff under your skin to have plumper lips or higher cheeks or whatever!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/10/2024 21:31

It’s not done to look good, it’s done as a status thing - shows you can afford to do it.

It’s meant too look obvious and “in your face”, so people don’t miss that you’ve had it done.

A bit like the orange fake tans. It needs to look unnatural otherwise people wouldn’t know you paid for it.

OhDearMuriel · 09/10/2024 21:31

YADNBU
The truth really needs to come out, so that people have the option to be fully informed, before they have these treatments.

fashionqueen0123 · 09/10/2024 21:32

it makes people look older that’s what I find bizarre. It’s like 25 year olds looking like they’re in their late 40s because you can see they’ve had work done.

BeardofHagrid · 09/10/2024 21:32

Lael Hansen is another anti filler YouTuber, I have been watching a couple of her videos lately and they are very well made. She has one video about veneers that is really interesting.

Edingril · 09/10/2024 21:33

Injecting something into your body for fun is harmful? This is news to people?

Maybe doing it decreases the brain cells?

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 09/10/2024 21:43

Thanks for posting. I'll watch this over the next few days. I've been thinking of getting filler and was always nervous about the long term effects. A post like this could help someone who doesn't know.

Unfortunately, your post seems to have been found by some negative people who should have some fucking niceness injected into them instead of coming here to post their opinions on it being bizarre and looking a certain way. They aren't doing it for you and don't care for your opinion.
